Siobhan Signs to Parlophone - Official
« Thread Started on Oct 21, 2005, 2:45pm »

I just thought i'd let any Siobhan fans here know that she's officially signed to Parlophone records and intends to release new material early 2006.

If anyone's interessted, she announced it herself over at sd.co.uk

Hurrah!

Can't wait for new Siobhan stuff. I hope Parlophone do a better job of promoting her than London.

Great news, I hope they support her 100%. They can be great (Kylie) and bad (Beverley Knight) when it comes to their artists' support and marketing. I hope she has better success this time around. I wonder if she's still working with Cameron McVey?

There's only a few Cameron tracks...and more sad news, only 1 Marlon & Pree track (Mattafix - see other thread). Along with our Siobhan, Marlon/Mister & Pree were the main writers/producers of Revolution, so it's a shame they're only doing 1 song...oh well, hopefully the song's she's done with them will feature as bsides or Mattafix tracks.

She's with another chap on the new album, someone i'm not acutally aloud to mention - Siobhan likes to keep secrets! (grr), but it's all good, i'm sure you'll all be happy!

oh my gosh - siobhan has the purest and most beautiful voice in pop (no, i retract, in the music industry full stop!!!)- i love her orange flamed ways, her style, her modest coolness....this is excellent news seeing as London records were incapable of representing her maginficent ways. How amazing was Revolution In Me - and how few people did it reach.

I really cannot wait for her new material to emerege...to be fair, the Mcvey tracks on the new sugababes album were the waekest tracks - i absolutley detest Joy Division, so the fact that Siobhan's new album has a more diverse co-writing back catalgue may not be a bad thing eh.

That's wicked news. I don't know how she signed to such a big label after she was virtually destroyed on London, but good on her. Maybe Parlophone look for talent and ignore a past of bad sales. She deserves it, I can't wait for the new stuff.

woo! Im excited now. I said it before and i will say it again, Revolution In Me is one of the best records released at that time. She has such a unique/funky style, I love It! Very suprised she made it onto such a big lable. I thought she would be on a very unknown lable and release flops for the rest of her life. Lets hope for some success now.

Although I wanna see another album I agree with Dr Bastard and don't see why this time is gonna be much different from last.

I do think there is this dillusion that her career was a given but was destroyed by London. She was pushed no worse than most for the style of act she wanted to be. I mean she was gigging, did the odd festival, album promo's were doing the rounds getting good buzz, making her name in 'serious' music circles. Unfortunately for all your efforts if the the radio dont wanna play your single, CDUK don't wanna book you and the tabs and mags wanna interview and write about other people you're buggered.

Granted when Overrated flopped London than gave up on her but do you really think most the other record companies wouldn't?

She was a hard sell and her musical style combined with her image limited who she was trying to appeal to (ie too grown for teeny boppers, to young for the over thirty 'cool' music types not MOR enough for the Ketie Melua 'singer/songwriter' crowds etc... The only thing she had going for her commercially was the Sugababes connection but that was played down and anyway she was a member when no-one cared about the group and it seemed that those who did were the only ones really paying attention to her as a solo artist which was never gonna bode well.

I know people seem to think London as the big evil but I do wonder whether any other big record company would have allowed her to make an album like Revolution In Me? Or would it have been a case of 'we want Sugababes style'? And also would any other big record company have released an album after the dreadful performance of her two singles?

I hold out hope. The child has chops, and some good instincts.....

And regarding London, what a fine job they did with not only Siobhan, but Fried (criminally overlooked), Mel Blatt (where's the album), Shaz, The Appleton sisters, Siobhan Fahey/Shakespear's Sister............the list boggles the mind

London records SUCKS! The messed up Bananarama's Please Yourself album before dropping them...

Why would Parlaphone sign her if they were thinking they would get another flop....I think she has got a great chance.

Even if it flops - at least we will get a brilliant second album.

The Appleton sisters were not signed to London Records. Holly Valance was signed to them however. Some people are having delusions and saying she is still with an imprint of Waner Music. That supposedly she wasn't dropped because she was a huge profittable success for them in the Asian market. If that's so true, why didn't they at least release Desire for that market?

Yes!

I definitely have hope for Siobhan. I know she'll make another ace album. To be honest, it's most likely going to be a commercial flop, but it's not as if she's a mainstream artist. I think she'd prefer it to be that way too. If she were still part of Sugababes, I don't think she'd enjoy the success and mainstream that they have today.

Of course, I could be wrong.

Whether she wants to be a 'mainstream' act or not, she'll still want to flog albums.

The guy that says it's not always about sales is either delusional or Siobhan's dad. Parlophone haven't signed her so she can fart about and release whatever she wants; they're expecting to make cold, hard cash, and all the critical acclaim in the world won't help you if you don't sell.

I do like her voice, though, so would welcome an album of decent material.

Nothing to do with London anymore - Mel's on her own label, Swollen Ankle. There was a complete album due for release on London in 2003, but at least half of it has been scrapped in favour of the songs she has subsequently done with Matt Hales of Aqualung. She's been doing live shows in London since June, but there's still no sign of a release date...

Appleton was in fact, originally signed to London. However, they were dropped before they got a chance to release anything and Polydor picked them and the album up.

I think SIobhan has got a really good chance this time. SHe narrowly missed that female singer songwriter thing which is really popular now, and I think all it takes is one really strong track, and she'll sell bucketloads. She's interesting, has a great voice, and writes great songs - I still maintain that if 'As You Like It' had been the first single, she could have been in a very different position right now.....

And as for Mel - her management emailed mea month or so back - still no release date.........

Heheh well i'm not her dad...
I meant that i believe Siobhan and Parlophone arn't out to sell millions and millions of records, yeah it would be nice, but i can't see Parlophone investing millions into her career at the beginning. She'll probably want to quitely come back anyway..i mean who wants to be a flop, come back again bold and brash and be a flop again! Siobhan's always said she'd prefer to have a good record with a small fanbase than to be commercially huge and have a shit album.

When i originally said it didn't matter if the next album doesn't sell, i mean't i don't care because at the end of the day i'll still have another superb album from her.

The difference between Parlophone and London is that Parlophone actually have some huge, multi-million selling artists, along with many smaller lower selling, but highly cirtically acclaimed artists. In turn they can afford to have a nice balance, having the huge acts like Colplay and Kylie bringing in the money and still support the smaller bands and artists. I mean look at Coldplay...were they huge when they first came out? Who has or knows the Blue Room EP etc? It took time for them to develop. London just didn't give Siobhan the chance to grow.

London on the other hand need big selling artists, instantly, as they don't have anything to fall back on. Hence if artists don't do well instantly, they've gotta go...

Yahey! My first post and it's about something great. I've been a Siobhan fan since the first time I ever saw the Sugababes on Channel 4 years ago (what was the Popworld like show they had b4 Popworld because it was on there)

I realise she probably won't sell much because that's just the way things are - hopefully she'll be able to settle into a career like Gemma Hayes has, where there doesn't seem to be that much pressure on sales.

Regardless, the important thing is, I get another Siobhan album!!!!

It also means she'll be making music for a while longer and one day when I get my filmmaking career going, I might still be able to get her to write original songs for one of my movies. Awesome.

I've been an avid reader of Siobhan's website for some time and was very happy to see she has a new deal. I can't wait to see her and the SBs on the same show though, could be marvellous, almost as much fun as watching LL and that other bloke on CD:UK try not to show their hatred of Mylene. By the way, there are things I'd like to do to Siobhan that I couldn't even try anonymously on a web-board.

First single to be released by the summer. Album's in the final stages of completion, with string arrangements currently being added. Hopefully there'll be some official news soon.

Exactly - people blame record labels not trying hard enough too often. You can't force them to playlist you, invite you on their shows and people to buy the records. The truth was her two singles were simply not good enough. #19 was probably all Overrated deserved IMHO.

I've always been interested in Siobhan since she went solo but only bought her album christmastime and i love it all, especially the singles, As You Like It and the lyrics to Revoulution in Me are amazing.
I agree with Tom though , if the artists I like are putting releasing records i don't care about anything else.

And i doubt the sugababes fans even know she was in the band by now as a lot of them are probably younger teenagers who were ten when One Touch was released (like me, although i managed to buy it when i first caught on after Freak Like Me was released). And those who do know probably don't care.
