I would resemble that remark only I do not snap the head off anyone who trashes an act I like. I happen to like a more reasoned debate and am mature and clever enough to know that not everyone has the same taste I wonder what the word for a person who constantly takes a snipe at some act at every opportunity just to bate the trolls and probably nothing to do with whether they like the act or not.............a Trollbater? Trollbaiter. That is me. I didn't even think of you when I said that, Gabbygoo. There are only two people I can think of that are exactly how I described...and neither of them have posted in this thread. But who cares? Let's talk about how crap Westlife are. Mark: when will he come out of the closet? Kian: when will somebody put him into a coma? Nicky: when will someone swipe that smug grin off his face? Shane: when will people take a trip to Specsavers, and realise they fancy a hairy frog? Flying Without Wings was a top tune, I must admit, but thankfully it would have been if a parrot had sung it.

On the Flying Without Wings sung by a parrot subject, apparently the song was originally given to Stephen Gately.

I'm waiting to see what they come up with next. At the moment, despite having been a big fan of theirs Im not that bothered about them.
I dont have a problem with them doing ballads as long as they are good ones. I do have a problem with their attitude a bit. It seems like they dont really try anymore. I dont appreciate that they take their fans for fools. They have lied about things several times. Its always obvious when they are lying, even though people like to kid themselves that its the truth. It pisses me off. However, they are not the only popstars guilty of that sin.
Another part of that though, which isnt their fault directly but the people around them. I've had things happen which makes it all look like a complete shit show. For example: I was a member of their fan club. it closed, and about a year later BMG sent out a "fan pack" as compensation. They claimed it was worth £25. I'd say more like £2.50. As part of that there was an opportunity to get a discount off tour merchandise, so I never bothered getting anything at the show. However I came to buy it from the net and it said we had to have a password, which we werent given. It then went on to say if you do not have this password then you can email customer services, which i did serveral times. I never got a reply and so never got anything I wanted.
Signings are also a complete shit show where westlife are concerned. Its always the same places, with the same people getting in, I've heard plenty of complaints from people who have been disappointed about them.
So thats what pisses me off about them really. The little respect they, and the people around them seem to have for fans. The same problem I have with Justin Timberlake actually.

Well I have a story about a Westlife signing. I used to work in Virgin in Glasgow and we had one about 4 years ago. I think it was around the time of their second album release.
Anyway people were queing up overnight to get their CD signed, and it was mostly teenage girls. Westlife arrived and went onto the meeting room we have. There was the usual refreshments etc, Mark and Bryan came into the staffroom to try to poach a cigarette of someone. But they didn't speak to anyone.
But when the fans were let in they soon changed their tone. A few fans fainted, most were screaming and nearly all of them wanted a hug. If you've ever seen the "When You're Looking Like That" video, there is a wee granny in the video, well that was from this signing. After about 30 mins the guys wanted a break, so we closed the doors for a bit. As soon as the last fan left, Westlife changed from happy and smiling to dour, moaning bastards, complaining about everything. Bryan even said "can you please ask people to keep their distance from me and stop touching me!" So when fans were let back in the guys were very subdued and woudn't let anyone take any pictures of them or talk to the fans, they just signed the CD and that was it.
After this, the band were free to roam around the store and take a few CDs, but they ended up leaving with almost £4000 in stock, giving my store manager a heart attack! Most of the Playstation games were gone!
This is in direct contrast to the Mel C signing (she opened the store) where she sat in the staffroom with all the staff, was friendly and cracked jokes, gave free signed Cds and T-shirts to all the staff, and even started a singalong with the staff. We were all singing to Northern Star, it was fun!
A lot of fans were complaining about the way Westlife were behaving. These people have to remember its these fans who put them where they are today.

Exactly, they are the most arrogant, ungrateful bastards I've never met. Their attitude is just wrong. Yes you make a few million quid a year from regurgitating the same old shite and selling it your barmy fans but you could at least be grateful to them instead of bragging about how easy your job is and shunning them. I wouldn't care but they're not even good looking.

Yes, too true. They are arrogant, boring mingers. And no, I suppose it's obvious, I'm not a fan.

What I cannot grasp is that most people slag Westlife off, quite rightly because they are all big bumheads and then the same people go on to praise crap pop pervs like Atomic Kitten or Javine or even Rachel.
Double standards do not work for me. I have to say though that I can't remember any Westlife songs at all. Not one. Zero. Zilch.

If I was a member of Westlife I'd keep my head down and feel apologetic for regurgitating such souless, unimaginative schlock over, and over, and over again. Who told them they were allowed to have egos just because an army of foolish fourteen year olds and "down with tha kidz" forty year old housewives buy their records?

I'm 18, and Westlife are the only pop band I like. I can't stand Busted, McFly, Girls Aloud (I'm going to get shot now), V, etc. Most of their singles since World Of Our Own was released were woeful (Hey Whatever is notable exception - it was brilliant, Mandy was a disaster and I don't know whose idea Obvious and Tonight was but they need strangled) - I'll be the first to admit it. But some of their album tracks are pure brilliance. 'Love Takes Two' is one of the best ballads they've ever recorded, and 'Turnaround' (the track not the album) - hello! My song of the summer - very, very cool and a far cry from Mandy. And they're still the best pop band live going - and are even better as a four-piece. (Bryan Who? was the cry in Belfast) If they started releasing some of the GOOD songs as singles instead of the album fillers, I'd be a lot happier. But for that to happen, they would need to cut those strings and stop being Louis and Simon's puppets. At least now Bryan's left, the 'verse by Shane, chorus, verse by Bryan, chorus, (short) bridge by Mark, chorus and key change' single formula is up the shoot so any new stuff shouldn't be so monotoneous. One plead though, NO MORE COVERS. I know that Westlife aren't everyone's cup of tea, but they certainly do for me.

As well as Westlife I like Queen, Marvin Gaye, Matchbox 20, John Lennon, Joss Stone, Motown, U2, The Committments, David Gray, Maroon 5, anyone on the Scrubs OST (bloody brilliant album), Boyz II Men, a lot of movie soundtrack albums (Moulin Rouge is class), Travis , Alanis Morissette, Coldplay, the Stererophonics. a bit of the Verve, Oasis, Annie Lennox... I could go on but I haven't got all night. I may be many things, but I don't think I've a boring taste in music.

I think it's cool that you are a rational, critical person and are still a Westlife fan. Why not? It's a free country and there are people up at the top of the pop industry right now who I can't stand, don't like their music, voice and think they are minging looking. I don't see the attraction in Westlife either. It's just the way it is. At least you can articulate your views in an acceptable way which is all that's required in my opinion. Hope that doesn't sound patronizing, ddn't mean it to.

I like some of Westlife's song, quite partial to a nice cheesy ballad sometime. But I think they now hate the kind of music they do, so that comes across I think.

But I think they now hate the kind of music they do, so that comes across I think. first post and fear it's gonna be a bit controversial... i like to think i have a life, and like decent music... totally into decent funky house (and can't wait to get to ibiza in september after waiting all summer), love goo goo dolls, athlete and that kinda thing, and also appreciate decent pop music... but something keeps pulling me towards the westlife albums in shops... i was first a fan when i was 15 and saw them live totallly randomly at a recording of TOTP... back when it was half decent... and they impressed me cos they can actually sing! Honest... and i have bought every album since... i know some of their music sux, and they probably hate it... i know i hate some of it... but there is always a few decent tracks that can make u smile... and even the crap ones make me smile... there u go... i dont understand why and i cant explain it but i am a westlife fan... and totally agree about not being arsed to change people's opinions... they do suck... but there's s0omething about them that doesnt...

Well I'm not a troll as you call them, because I do understand that not everybody is going to like them, and many fans have moved onto the next generation of boybands, McFly, Busted etc. As for the comments about arrogance and stuff, to me they seem really nice lads when I've heard/seen/read them in interviews and any videos on them. Another thing they can actually sing live, which is something you can't really say for many 'pop' bands these days. If anybody has seen a concert of theirs, it is FANTASTIC even how they come on stage and disappear is brill. I read somewhere that they are like all 30+ or something... they're actually all mid-late 20's, which I think is another reason I admire them. They are able to run around on stage (yet again you'd have to go to a concert of theirs) and sing at the same time, very fit (the old meaning of it) and not many pop stars can do this, hence the recent trend of putting-heart-into-all-movements-but-miming thing. Isn't music about talent in music, not dancing? Even if they can't dance very well, they do at least try. I personally can't find many faults with them... but as I said I respect that you do.
