Hotly spunked over "band of 2005" by NME this week. I've listened to a few of the tracks, not bad but not in the same league as the Killers or the Strokes who they are supposed to be a hybrid of.. (Copyright NME, Next Big Thing, Big In 2005, Get 'Em While They Are Hot and other cliches are trademarks blah blah blah..)
Fearless isn't bad, neither is their Jan 2005 Top 40 struggler Honest Mistake but other than that nothing to get excited about Camden-fans.

Production-line so-called-"cool" - awful

I'm seeing them support Yeah Yeah Yeahs tomorrow...it will be interesting to see if they can actually cut it live. I'm going with an open mind, but this week's NME is just a little too Bravery-hyping-like-Oh my goodness-we-told-you-so!

I saw them supporting the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on monday, they were dull. Definitely production line cool. No real songwriting ability.

I'd have to agree, Yorkpete. They really seemed to have ideas above their station about how good they were. At the aftershow party I told the singer that he wasn't Morrissey and he just gave me a look of contempt. Hell yes though - I insulted them before they were famous!

They're the Moving Units to the Killers' Strokes.

I saw "Unconditional" on some music channel and it was okay, but nowhere near good enough to make me want to hear more.

Contrary to popular opinion on this board the Bravery are actually rather ace.
Thankfully, they are more Killers then Strokes.
'Unconditional' is fab, as are the tracks 'Honest Mistake' and 'Fearless'.
They should be taking over a world near you soon. Unless of course they don't, inwhich case, ignore this last sentence.

Rather suprised that they topped the BBC Sound of 2005 thing ( news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/4149005.stm). I really thought their performance on Later... was amongst the worst i've ever seen on that programme. They're still not as bad as The Departue though.

We have enough "cool but lacking in substance" bands over here already, i don't see why we need to import them.

Naturally I am pleased that the Bravery are officially the Sound of 2005 according to the BBC, but then again, what do they know. Keane topped the poll last year and look what happened to them.

Starting to think The Bravery are quite good and might buy the album.
Anyone know when the album is actually out?

The Bravery have a fantastic album up their sleeve, as do The Departure....and after witnessing both performing at the Barfly at the tail end of last year, I can honestly say with my hand on my heart (Kylie-style) that they were the best live shows of 2004 for sheer performance + bravado....and I saw Sir Elton with a fucking huge orchestra + choir last year, so there.

I agree with Tigermilk- their performance on Later was one of the worst I've ever seen...they looked very nervous, but at the same time tried to be all cocky and hard (drinking beer on TV.....woooaahh...steady there boys....) And the music sounded like some record company execs sat in a room and put it together (dash of punk funk, smattering of 80's synth pop, eyeliner....) And I wish there were more 'danceable' indie bands around...

I absolutely love the single. Will be interesting to see what else they come up with. Does anyone know when the album is out?

As well as The Killers and The Strokes, I'm hearing a bit of New Order in "Honest Mistake". And I quite like it...

The album is indeed very good. But I'm not sure if they're going to make the breakthrough that everyone's expecting them too.

'Honest Mistake' is the acest. It's rock and roll, but it's not. Love the video too. Especially when the arrow misses at the end.
But the album should be even better if 'Hot Pursuit', 'Unconditional' and 'Out Of Line' are anything to go by. Although 'Out Of Line' is in much of the same vein of 'Honest Mistake'.
Can't wait for the album.

I was introduced (not personally) to The Bravery by Popworld the other week when they played the video. I adore 'Honest Mistake.' Thing is though, as I've mentioned before, I'm not one to buy albums on the strength of one song...where can I hear some other tracks of theirs?

Go to the music player on www.thebravery.com/. You can also see the ace cover art for the album and watch the videos for 'Honest Mistake' and 'Unconditional'.

No, i've heard one song by each of them......'Be My Enemy' and 'Honest Mistake' .........'Be My Enemy' is better. I like to cast my judgement on as little as possible......otherwise you just end up years down the line with three stereophonics albums, wondering where it all went wrong!
