Well they said you are as good as you look, but that would be impossible

I saw the UK tour in Hammersmith, and felt exactly like this person did about the album. (Which I haven't heard) ... slightly underwhelmed? Too many tracks, and too many of them midtempo and start to merge into one another... There was no variation to the songs - without a band or other singers to break it up, it just became one long bland thing.

I love The Beekeeper bar a handful of tracks that I never listen to (Ireland, Witness spring to mind). It doesn't quite hit the highs of some previous albums but all in all, a beautiful album.

I've just got this and am really not sure what to make of it. There appears to be none of the grit of songs like playboy mommy or jackie's strength but maybe it's a grower. I hated Jamaica Inn and Ireland. Witness, Goodbye Pisces and Parasol are good though.
On a tangent I also got both Emiliana Torrini's albums and they are ace!

The more of Tori's albums I get, the less I like "The Beekeeper" - her voice is actually quite irritating on a lot of the songs. Denim, EmilĂana's "Fisherman's Woman" is fantastic - I don't have her first album though.

Agreed, I was stunned when fans were raving about this record. I have been a Tori fan since the beginning and it's just NOT a great album. It does have some very nice songs, but she needs an overhaul in a big way. I HATE HATE HATE the stuff with the organ and choir. Blech. Like white soul.
I still think she has great albums in her but she needs to get over this r'n'b thing of putting 18 tracks on a record. You cannot digest it. Give us bsides again Tori. That was FUN.

I know. "Scarlet's Walk" had 18 tracks, but at least that works. There is too much filler on "The Beekeeper" and a lot of it could be cut. There was no need for "Ireland", "Cars And Guitars" or "Ribbons Undone".
