Hey pop buffs!! I was wondering what everyone on here's favorite live pop performance is and why? My favorite is the MTV VMA's of 2000. When Ms. Spears did her strip tease. It's my fave cause she starts off singing "i can't get no satisfaction..." in that live growl, yes live. and then she strips down, turns the mic down(lol) and entertains us dancing to a rock version of Oops..I did again. She looked more like a caged lion free than a pop-tart. But i'd have to say my 2nd fave is when Madge performed "vogue" at the vma's in 1990.

Kylie at the MTV europe VMA's doing 'Can't get you out of my head', when the beat finally kicks in after a slow intro you can feel the place literally explode, makes your heart beat fast!

Hmmm ...
-Madonna at the '93 Brit Awards singing 'Bedtime Stories'. Hair! Wind! White dress! Perfect.
-Spice Girls at the 97 Brit Awards doing Who Do You Think You Are.
-Bjorn Again (the 4th time I saw them) singing a stripped-down version of 'The Name of the Game'. Beautiful.
-The first time I saw Erasure in concert.
-ABBA's 'Honey Honey' video where the girls go back to back and do the ah, ah, ah's.
-And of course, Girls Aloud twirling in to the pink dresses in the "Biology" video. Awesome.

I loved the EMA's, Christina Aguilera - Dirrty. Only problem was Puff Daddy/P.Diddy/Sean Combs or whateever he calls himself these days presenting the show and introducing her performance.

Same song at the Brits... first time the cant get blue monday out of my head was heard... and as it that was not enough, the giant compact disc, the glittery pink logo... the "how does it feel" at the end... I remember thinking "so, finally, god REALLY exists..."

Yes, I know I'll get flayed, but Dido at the 2003 or 4 something or others, doing White Flag with just one little guitar man, and the lyrics being projected across strips of hanging stuff, and then suddenly the lights going up and there being a million strings for the end. Amazing.

The N'sync Performance of 'POP' at the 2001 VMA's with 'cameo' appearance from Micheal Jackson.
Mind blowing.

I still watch that every now and then.

The N'sync Performance of 'POP' at the 2001 VMA's with 'cameo' appearance from Micheal Jackson. Mind blowing. Sorry Ringoo but I thought that was really shit. When Michael hobbled onstage looking frail, I just knew his days as the 'King Of Pop' were over. My friend loved it until he rewatched it and then he had to agree.

Kylie singing 'Fever' on some british show with nurses and doctors, and its all very camp. my favorite performance ever.
altered images singing 'song sung blue' on john peel because she goes on some adlib discourse on how anyone can sing along, in this very kindergarten teacher way.
pulp on 'butt naked' singing 'his n hers' because in the middle of the song he goes out into the crowd and ask various people 'what makes you proud?' someone says 'wasps'. and all the sudden off the top of his head he goes ' i can see what you mean....when a bee stings you, its a for a reason because it pays for it with its life, but a wasp stings you over and over...and some people are like that' and then he goes right back into the song like nothing happened.
i like things like that.

Kylie singing 'Fever' on some british show with nurses and doctors, and its all very camp. my favorite performance ever. That was from 'An audience with Kylie' and you see close ups of no-marks like Tracy Shaw and Narinder from Big Brother looking bemused at this, like they could ever do better! Is very camp though, but very funny.

Prince at this year's Brits. Everybody else should have packed up and gone home as soon as he finished. The show was as good as over.
I agree about the Spice Girls at the 1997 Brits (was it really that long ago? how awful) - that was surely the highpoint of their career. Everyone was eating out of the palm of their hands, and the backlash hadn't quite started.
I vaguely remember En Vogue doing an award show speech (VMAs?) in perfect four-part harmony. That was pretty cool. And INXS's show at Wembley Stadium was amazing - Michael Hutchence was mesmerising, even when he did nothing.
But my favourite performers are probably Basement Jaxx - the most frenetic, euphoric concerts I've ever been to.

I almost forgot my fave kylie performance!! When she sings the medley of her ballads mixed with "the crying game." that's one of the best vocal performance, best song selection for a medley(quite a few bridges) and she looked stunning!

I've said my own personal favourite now let me state the worst:
Live 8.
Pete Doherty.
Elton John.
Fucking dire. If Kate Moss, skag or a crap album couldn't ruin his career this certainly did.

I think the worse performance ever, is any Hilary Duff performance, bc her voice is totally digitalized and has never, never, never sang live. and she sucks at lip singing, specifically when she performed "wake-up" on jay leno, the turn her mic on for the bridge and she screams "wake up!" yeah, she should. (i admit i have all her cd/dvds. The funnies was Cher singing "song for the lonely" on Divas live, and she's so excited and blonde that she forgets the lines...lol. It's diff on the dvd tho.

Yeah, the 'audience with...' is a tradition which began with people like Peter Ustinov who could tell funny tales and comedians who answered questions from a special 'celeb' audience, over the years they did singers too and Kylie's involved lots of camp cheesy outfits and songs, the 'audience' were pretty poor by this stage, reality show contestants, soap stars, Boy George was about the most famous there (oh, and Dannii and Brendan Minogue). She also duetted with Adam Garcia in a 1930's style version of 'Better the devil you know', and Kermit (as you know). It was about the time of 'Fever' so features a few tracks from there as well as a few choice hits from her career, the end was a massive medley of lots of her biggest hits, it isn't really her finest hour but was just before she was actually too 'successful' to have to lower herself to do such nonsense, but is an interesting bit of fluff. There's also, seperately, an 'audience' with Ricky Martin where Kylie and he duet on 'Livin' la vida loca', and is uber cheesy and camp!

. And INXS's show at Wembley Stadium was amazing - Michael Hutchence was mesmerising, even when he did nothing. Agreed, have got the 'Live baby, live' DVD and when 'New sensation' kicks in the whole place just goes wild. He was somehow very masculine, but very camp as well, a rare feat! Maybe Jagger can do it, and Prince, but very few others.

Favorite Pop Performance of all time would have too be....Rachel Stevens-Some Girls at the Olympic Torch Concert. It was just the atmosphere of the performance that created such good performance (plus it was outside which in my book are the memorable performances).
