Liberty X became big when they were positioned as the anti-Hear'Say. When people got bored with Hear'Say the X came along and everyone was like "Oh-isn't-manufactured-pop-so-crap-LibertyX-are great-cos-they're-real". Now that Hear'Say are long forgotten they've lost their USP.

It's not really as simple as that.
In fact, it can be argued the 'flopstar' tag worked against them rather than positioned them as the credible 'Anti-Hear'Say'. I mean how many other bands have crossed over into success after being runners-up on popstars?
None.
Liberty X only got this far on moments of pop brilliance like 'Just a Little', 'Being Somebody', 'Thinking it Over' and so on. Which is technically how it should always be.
They have worked really hard without a doubt, certainly harder then Hear'Say ever did. They deserved their success.
I'm curious as to how much input they have had into the music they make. I get the impression there isn't a svengali behind them. They seem determined to stay together as a group and succeed.

I think it's a bit of both personally. Hear'Say were pretty heavily disliked by the time Liberty (as they were called at one time if anyone remembers...) came out, but aside from working with Artful Dodger and doing a 'garage' single rather than a 'pure pop' one they weren't seen is much more credible- as has been said they were dubbed Flopstars for not getting into Hear'Say. Then there was that whole 'another band called Liberty' court case and them adding an 'X' to the name.
I think what saved their bacon was their one massive hit single coming quite late on (see also Atomic Kitten-Whole Again, Jamelia-Superstar etc). I remember hearing a preview of it on the radio months before it came out and the DJ said "When that record comes out Hear'Say might as well get down the job centre".
So I think they have Just A Little to thank- after that they were established as an act who'd had a hit mostly because people liked the song rather than being on reality TV.
It was quite funny when Hear'Say came back with Lovin' Is Easy, embarrasingly sounding like a Liberty X rip-off. Whoever was in charge of Hear'Say did a shit job though. I remember thinking they'd chosen the wrong five for the Popstars band, but I'm glad they didn't now. I bet anything that Liberty X singing Hear'Say's songs and having Hear'Say's stigma wouldn't have lasted as long as they have.

i think they should stick around. they can be shit r&b lite at times but they put out some choice tracks from each album and that should be enough to keep them around for awhile.
