There was a show on MTV Hits today of the Top 10 Naff Girlbands and I suggest you all try to catch it next time it was on as it was rather brilliant! I missed no.10 but the other 9 were Cleopatra, Daphne and Celeste, Thunderbugs, N-Tyce, Appleton, Cheeky Girls, Tatu, B*Witched and Atomic Kitten. Surprisingly no sign of the Spice Girls and I don't see how Tatu or Appleton were naff, if they are going for cheesy/tacky. Anyway, it was really fun to see the videos for Thunderbugs and N-Tyce as I'd never seen them and it was nice to see the others on a channel other than Pop Party for once.

I saw this.
I wondered if I was the only person in the world watching who disagreed and got annoyed at the producers for claiming certain bands naff (and therefore rubbish by association)? They are fools.
After it finished, VH-1 was running down Worst Hits Of 80s. Poor Sinita.

You certainly weren't the only one. I would take it as a compliment if I was a band to be put in that ace company. Bring on Top 10 Naff Boybands! Jessica

Sounds like the Top 10 Good Girl bands to me
I own the N-Tyce album, have to say although it's not amazing there are a few good tracks on there.
And B*Witched's C'est La Vie, Does Your Mother Know and Blame It On The Weatherman are classics!

Naff girlbands?
I'd take Thunderbugs and Appleton out that list, both their albums are really great. I'm a lover of ALL girlbands but if they were looking for naff ones try these:
Fab Vanilla Fe-m@il
Now THEY were naff...

Boyfriend predicted Vanilla and I predicted Fe-m@il but neither turned up. They showed the worst Daphne & Celeste promo ( Skoolz Out) which said the least about them as artists* and, well, it was just wrong. If Precious had turned up, I would've been fuming. *!

Precious naff? Well maybe at Eurovision, but their album is tops. Was listening to it today. Shame they didn't do well. I love my Dumper Girlbands. In the past week i have listened to:
Precious Cleopatra Made In London Thunderbugs Solid HarmoniE Clea N-Tyce and Honeyz
Ooh, I think it calls for a Girl Band Compilation CD!

I was praying for a Solid HarmoniE appearance. Perhaps they were no.10. Did anyone catch no.10? I would have also liked to have seen Shampoo.

Jessica I would've loved to have seen them too but not at the expence of them being called naff. Perhaps I should e-mail my top50 girlbands thread to MTV and hope for the beginning of the wayout for attitude against girlbands.

I'd forgotten about the Honeyz. Weren't they supposed to be clarsy laydeez like, or something? They were dull as ditchwater nevertheless.
Vanilla, however, will stay with me until the day I die. I heard a rumour they actually recorded and released a second single called True to Us, which was all about person-less-rich-and-brilliant-than-me slapper solidarity. I've never heard it.
Can't believe no one's mentioned Supersister, though.

The Honeyz had a stomper of a tune called Won't Take It Lying down. They are brilliant because of that song.
They might have continued like that if Matthew bloody Marsden hadn't split them up. Grr.

Four words - Summer Gonna Come Again.
This from the 'edge of the dumper release a Whole Again clone' school of marketing.
It sealed their fate - spiralling downwards. And then their album got rip to shreds by the S Club 8 boys and girls. Haha.
The Honeyz best song was never released - Talk To The Hand (Cos the Face Ain't Listening) . Supposed to be the someback single but never saw the light of day. I liked it.

The girlgroup @ no 10 were those Scandinavian one-hit wonders, not sure of their name but the song was 'Help! I'm a fish' from the shit movie of the same name. I only watched the programme to make sure the Spice Girls weren't in it - I would've been furious if they had! But surely Supersister deserved a top 10 placing, if not no. 1?! Plus, did anyone else see the Cleopatra video and think, christ they were fucking shit?! I used to love em!

Hold back that critical outburst which is bound to want to break free from your gob when you read this...
"True To Us" by Vanilla was a work of utter pop aceness.
And that's no lie.
It was cheap and cheerful but was proper pop, no mistake, and should be investigated at your earliest convenience. You'll be glad you did.
No. Really.

We're on to page 2 and still no sign of Smoke 2 Seven, you should all be ashamed of yourselves. With Been There Done That and Envy they are by far the greatest of the naff girl bands.

They brought danger back to pop music and burnt out. When a pop group is more scary than any punk/rock band around you know the music scene is s*it.

Give Daphne & Celeste their own show on TV. Seeing them on Christmas Day MTV was the funniest thing ever in the whole world. They insulted everyone.
They died for the sins of all other obnoxious pop groups.

Ya gotta be true to us if ya wanna have a good time. I remember them doing it on Blue Peter except they changed the words to Mabel's true to us. I remember that well. The only bit of the song I can remember is "True to us, gotta be true to us" and then it went "oh babe, oh yeah" or something. Some pikey girls at my school at the time made their own girl band called Raspberry Ripple (as in ice cream flavours like Vanilla) and used to sing No Way No Way. I don't recall them showing much interest in True To Us though! Jessica

I'm not shocked, but the utter mess that was girl band i5 define naff. I mean, one of their lyrics was "I get distracted when I'm watching TRL". Lame!

They belong in the category: 'Too shit to remember'. And whoever was slagging Appleton, listen to their album and then see what you think.

They were Creamy, another one of those brilliant cases of "they were one-hit wonders in this country, therefore the rest of the world also thought they were shit." I have their album. Good songs are "Do You Think I'm Pretty" and "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do".
