Did anyone else watch T4 for the beginning of this comedy-drama music band thing? Much as the 'Famemaker' set and non-existent audience nonsense was a bit crap, the rest of it was very enjoyable and the lead singer's comedy perm was great. Also the As If camerawork was surprisingly not annoying.
Definitely up there with No Sweat and The Monkees. How many episodes until they master their instruments and play the track they made with Xenomania?

It was badly scripted, badly acted and badly shot but i still ended up quite enjoying it. If the first episode is anything to go by, the band will be much better than the series. The lead singer and the guitarist have a bit of charisma and, if they've got Xenomania behind them, they should have the songs to back it up. I know the press have raised "ethical questions" about product placement but if that's the only way to get a female guitar-pop band into the upper reaches of the charts i've got no objections.

It was okay, but I can't really say anything more positive than that at this point. I think this first episode (was it the first? I'm guessing so, but I only found it was on while channel-surfing) suffered from being exposition-heavy; I should think it'll improve in the second one where they can start having a bit more fun with it.
I'm not sure if the tone does it any favours - it seems to be taking itself reasonably seriously. There were a couple of moments that they probably could have got away with if the programme had had a more arch, throwaway tone (like Miami 7) but that didn't quite work in this setting. I liked the four girls though - there's something reassuringly Girls Aloud-esque about them.
I'm going to stick around to hear how they sound once they get to work on the Xenomania tracks, but it's going to have to try a bit harder than this to prove to me that it's not just going to end up being Hollyoaks: The Musical.

I missed this - is it being repeated on E4?

It'll do for me!
Tasha is HOT, and all the girls seem to go well together aswell as actually having some kind of personality.
Plus if they've got 'Money in my pocket' they should do well - sounds even better than Mania (and I loved 'um!)

Their Total Eclipse cover version at the end was quite good, but I found 2 of the girls (the ginger and blonde ones) particularly unlikeable. I just can't see this taking off, it's so uncool and the way it's being presented as the next big thing will do it no favours. It's a shame because a new girl group would be great and I'd love to be more excited about it.

Hmm. I'm not really sure about this.
There were a few flashes of brilliance (the bit with the perm for example), but all in all it didn't quite work for me. Tasha's really good, but I didn't feel like any of the other characters were particularly strong, and after the first episode, I wasn't itching to see the next one. It's almost like it doesn't know what it wants to be - it's too 'cool' to be as trashy as LA/Miami 7, yet it's not gonna really be taken seriously anyway.
Was I the only one that thought it weird that they suddenly became a band? They enter a nationwide singing competition (although with only 1000 entrants, it can't have been a great one), then when they lose, three of them suddenly find an ability to play an instruments, and forget that they were actually singers. I think it would have worked better with an all singing, all dancing group.
I'm not sure whether this will translate into record sales at all.............

dont think Pussycat dolls need worry. Tasha was lead singer with Genie Queen. Not sure about acting? Thought the programme looked tacky.

Yeah, I had a problem with that too. I also had a problem with the fact that we were supposed to believe that the competition they entered selected the winner when it got down to five contestants, and sent four people home that night. It's almost like whoever wrote this has never watched a televised talent show before.

Just watched it for the first time, heard a snippet of their version of Money In My Pocket (I think, I know it was a Mania song anyway!) and then one called "No Regrets" or something.
Anyhow; point is: they've completely nicked Mania's sound! The vocal treatment is almost identical. A part of me is excited, because I loved Mania and really want to hear a full album of that style of music, but another part is seriously sceptical about the whole thing.

Totally wank.
In their first interview after the show's debut, they told June Sarpong they were nothing like the Spice Girls (this, despite the fact they have a ginger one, a cute one, and a Northern 'funny' one with hair like Mel B) - they could release this year's 'No Good Advice' and I'd hate them on principal.

They performed a full version of "I'm Shy..." on today's show - pretty much exactly the same as the Mania original. However, this programme is all about Tasha/Lauren - by far the best (looking!) girl

I watched two catchup episodes and found it to be completely fucking dire. Awful acting, embarrasingly so. Making Holloaks look like oscar nominations. The songs are good though.

Presumably the album will be released if the TV show gets good ratings and the single does well...
Episodes 2 and 3 have been rather disappointing. All the characters just come across as really horrible, selfish people - double-crossing each other at every juncture. The high-voiced song at the end of episode two was quite good, and I am quite enjoying hearing bits of Mania songs on the soundtrack and squealing about it, but the camerawork is starting to give me a bit of a headache.

All the sexiness has been robbed from the Mania songs by a bunch of appalling little pop punk virgins.

I randomly came across it briefly over the weekend. It seemed very bizarre, and like I'd stumbled on some even more surreal version of Hollyoaks.
But... they did sound pretty good on Total Eclipse. Is the lead singer Nathan's friend from Queer As Folk. She looked / sounded (when talking) very similar. Aha her name was Carla Henry

I really like them...songs are a bit dodgy though. I think they're more likely to go the way of North & South than S Club.

Hi again! Thought Sunday's episode was an improvement. The scripting is still awful (Flo's long-term boyfriend trouble is particularly badly done) but the song they did was very good, and I particularly liked Charlie's little moment of self-realisation: "I'm always the one everyone hates. I'm like Geri Spice!"
Two questions: is the indie bassist lad Justin from series 2 of The League of Gentlemen? And was that The Scala they had their showbiz party in?

I like the show, but the music is simply DREADFUL. I cannot see them doing well. When are they going to release a single and how long is the series going on for?

loved their full(ish) version of Money in my pocket, and loved how they made it into a heartfelt message of being in debt, but not wanting it to bother them, as they were living the dream.
funny.
