How about Sonia with The Greatest Love Of All. That would actually be my favourite, but by no means the best.

Not to come accross all condescending and stuff, but some of the selections in this thread are appalling, and go a long way to explaining why most people who win these competitions are rubbish and don't go on to have successful careers..........
The only performances I can think of, off the top of my head, which I would say were 'special'
Susanne Manning - I Don't Wanna Talk About It Nadia Turner - As Long As He Needs Me Jasmine Trias - Inseperable Cheryl Tweedy - Right Here Waiting Hayley Evetts - Show Me Heaven
I think that's it.

Chico - It's Chico Time. For a different reason of course. Never have I laughed so hard at how crap someone was at singing.

But these are light entertainment shows, and a favourite performance doesn't have to be something that precedes a successful career. And as much as i agree with you about Cheryl Tweedy, I watched Right Here Waiting on youtube, and she's very out of tune. So it's all down to what people enjoy at the time I guess.

When you consider that giving a Toni Braxton song to Kimberley Walsh is like casting one of the Hollyoaks girls as Lady Macbeth, it's not that bad a performance. Her version of Chain Reaction was far, far worse. For the purpose of comparison, here's the lady herself in action. Oh, and if anyone has her performance of Love Me Tender from the same concert, please upload it and I'll love you forever...

Fantasia singing Summertime on American Idol made me cry,it was so lovely. Journey South singing The First Time ever I Saw Your Face. Anything by Will Young, but for the cuteness factor, when he sang Evergreen(rubbish song) and his voice cracked at the end because he was overcome.Ahh bless.

I think she sounds fairly decent considering she had been ill all that week and had hardly rehearsed. Much better than all of Cheryl's performances put together. And I commend her for not trying to outdo Toni (I know she had no hope, and so did she) but she put her own spin on it and made it her own. I love the high bits she does which Toni never did on the original. I love the Braxton also.

Oooh I forgot about this! When I first watched it I got the biggest grin on my face when it finished. These two should have been the top 2, Gates can't hold a candle to this performance. Oh, and forgot about The Fleeshman too - loved him doing 'Flowers In The Window' & 'Ordinary People'...

I agree, Will and Hayley should have been the final 2. It actually pains me to think that she doesnt have a record deal whilst some less talented acts do.

The Conway Sisters - You Raise Me Up I like your list, but are you really serious about this? I thought they were perhaps the worst competitors I've ever seen in a reality show. Do you remember One Moment In Time? Jesus!

Ain't No Sunshine - Will Young and when he performed 'Name of the Game' on ABBA week. I think that's when I realised his fabulousness.

I too loved Ain't No Sunshine when Will sang it on PI1. His performance of Leave Right Now on PI2 was outstanding! I thought the audience were never going to stop applauding. He had been away for nearly a year and everyone seemed to have missed him. I know I did.

The only exceptional thing about that performance was that it managed to encapsulate everything that was wrong with the X Factor and condense it into three hideous minutes. Getting an act to perform the new Westlife single just days before its release, and then harping on about what a 'beautiful' song it was - even by the exalted standards of Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh, this was jaw-droppingly egotistical stuff.
Oh, and the girls sang like stuffed pigs. Which certainly didn't help.

You Raise Me Up was released before that. It wasn't just Westlife who sang it. I have heard several others (can't recall who just now) sing the song during the past year.

You're kinda missing my point. I know the song isn't a Westlife original (an oxymoron if ever there was one) but the point is, it was the new/current single by an act in which both Simon and Louis had a vested interest - performed, lest we forget, by a group who only made it that far in the competition because they were friends of Louis Walsh. Which only validates my point - the X Factor is a self-promotion/ego-stroking exercise for its judges first and a talent show second.

Nobody can convey romantic misfortune with their clenched fists the way Kimba can. It's odd, Popstars: The Rivals completely passed me by, and from that perfomance alone, I never would have guessed that that would be the girl I would later rank 4th in my 2nd favourite girlband of all time.

My great grandfather was Thomas Thomas!
Anyway, back to the subject. Gareth did do a good version of Mack the Knife. Not my favourite song by a long chalk.
My favourite was definitely Ain't No Sunshine sung by Will Young in the first PI. But I've probably already said that!

I think anybody who lists any of Gareth Gates's performances as their favourites needs their ears syringed. I really don't see the attraction there I'm afraid.
