Does anyone else find them annoying?
I was listening to Girls Aloud on Smash Hits! (Freeview) and they cut the middle 8 out completely! My favourite part of Wake Me Up was removed and i ended up singing the wrong words.
Embarrassing.
And also, Spice Girls - Viva Forever they cut the instrumental bit out of the middle and ruined it.
Grr.

I Get Along by Pet Shop Boys missed a whole verse out. And irony of ironies, it was barely played on the radio.

The worst case of radio-edit butchering in recent years was All Day Long I Dream About Sex from JC Chasez, for which the evil record company cut out what was by far the best part of the song while keeping untouched the final 1'30"" fade-out..
The mind boggles.

Oh thats another thing, i hate fade-outs.
Why can't they come up with definite endings?
Performance versions of Girls Aloud songs always have definite endings where as the CD versions always fade out and keep me waiting for the next track to play.
Grr.

Of course the worst example of this is Geri's version of "It's Raining Men" where they removed the "I'm gonna go out, I'm gonna let myself get absolutely soaking wet" bit.
It's the best line of the whole song!

Not quite the same thing, but I really hate it when the DJ keeps yammering on over the song's introduction and doesn't shut up until the singing has started, as if you'd rather be told what radio station you're listening to than actually listen to the music. Atlantic 252 were buggers for doing that, and so is my local station (name and shame time) Minster FM...

The biggest butchering was Pet Shop Boys' Being Boring. The original version is actually 6:49 and they edited the shit out of it to be 4:50.

I reckon the best bit of the Sugababes 'Caught In A Moment' is the bit at the end, the 'ahh ahh ahh' bit... and when they play it on the radio, they cut out most of that! It sucks. I HATE DJ's who talk over the beginning and endings of songs - it pisses me off. We know what radio station we're on, or otherwise we wouldn't be listening to it! I have performance studio versions of GA songs if anybody wants them - I got Sound Of The Underground, The Show, Love Machine & Long Hot Summer with endings - it sounds like how they perform it.

The radio edit (and i think the Australian single version) of Ms Minogues 'Put yourself in my place' misses all the fabby middle bit out. Grr
Mind you after the fever tour version anything's a let down...

Nope, they've done it for years. It's because most radio DJs like the sound of their own voice.

...Or they wouldnt have applied for the job.
But anyway, yes it is quite annoying. I used to make mixtapes of songs i recorded off the radio when i was about 10, the DJ's talking would always do my head in so id go out and buy the tape or CD.

I pretty much hate every radio edit I've ever come across - but two stick in my mind for being diabolically bad. The first is GA's No Good Advice, which among other annoying things cut out the really awesome outro - which made the song for me!
The other was Madge's Die Another Day, which was a total dogs breakfast - cutting out the brilliant bit at the end where the synths start going haywire ... and my hatred of this version was sealed when I plonked down the cash to see the lamo Bond movie only to discover the crappy radio edit was the version they in they used in the opening as well.
I mean WTF!!!!

A few TLC singles edited out Left Eye's raps - No Scrubs being the most annoying example - which for me were always one of the highlights of the group's records.

Here in Australia there was an ongoing trend of playing the Mel C feat. Left Eye "Never Be the same again"... MINUS Left Eye's ridiculously good rap. Shocking, I know.

Left Eye's rap isn't on the album version of No Scrubs either.
There's an exceptionally heinous local radio station in these parts called Real Radio. It edits the raps out of every song, even the well-known ghetto anthem that is Blue's All Rise. As for their Where Is The Love edit - you'd better really, really like the chorus.
All this and less from a station that has a jingle promising 'Scotland's best variety of music' which is always followed by Keane's This Is The Last Time. Whoever said irony was dead?

2 songs that sound better without the raps are (in my opinion):-
Beyonce - Crazy In Love Pussycat Dolls - Don't Cha
I don't like raps very much (apart from amazingly amazing raps by Girls Aloud and Betty Boo!)

The radio edit for LSL's Electric does my nut in...they totally remove the line "I'm just like a vibrator" and put in her whispering "touch me, I'm electric" instead. It makes the song make no sense.
"If you want me for later, touch me I'm electric, An energy creator"
Also instead of "I'm ready to blow" it's "I'm ready to..uh uh"...
And watever that thing is blah blah on a wire, the bit before on a wire is cut.
It's not as if the lyrics are that risque that they needed cut, in fact, it would have probably got the single more publicity if they were left in.

Why would it? They might not care on a personal level, but they're usually instructed to talk over the intros, especially in the premieres of songs. If not you get the station ident repeated over the intro.

I hate the PCD with a passion.
On the latter topic, I have been trained to talk over outros and intros - obviously not over lyrics. It means less dead air. When I do my classical show I do not talk over anything as classical music is an entirely different kettle of fish.

I know it's not a radio edit as such but I hated the way on "The Immaculate Collection" the version of "into the groove" added a horrible piano instrumental but left out the absolute best bit, being..."Now I know you're mine...NOW I KNOW YOU'RE MINE...now I know you're mine" from the original. By the way, this is my first post on her, love reading it though, hi everyone

In all the radio stations I have worked in this has never been the case - talk-ins and promos are there to raise awareness of the station branding, not to dissuade home tapers. Which stations have been 'instructed' to do this for those reasons?

The radio edit for S Club 7's Natural (My other favorite song of all time) did 2 things wrong. 1) It eliminated the "Oh loving you, oh pleasing you" lines paul's electro vocals were gone, and Tina's "All I Live For" lines were shorter and 2) The song was shortened by like 20 seconds! That all said it did have it's great moments, like the strong violin stabs and the "Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah" lines durring the vocals. I long for it to leak the rumored electric guitar instead of oboe version.

Which stations have been 'instructed' to do this for those reasons? Radio 1 when Oasis premiered the Be Here Now album on The Evening Session, for example. It's in Steve Lamacq's book - the record company instructed them to do it and then were annoyed that it wasn't talked over enough. I assumed this was standard practise. Apologies.

Madonna's hollywood is ruined when they miss out the 'push the button, don't push the button, miss the station, change the channel'. Disgusting!
