Actually, he's never done drugs. Apparently. He's not big on sex, booze or drugs... ... I think he's fascinating as well....OK, so he's not ito booze or drugs - fair enough. But sex? EVERBODY's into sex and if they say their not they're lying and denying themselves something really fundamental... and THAT is the really interesting thing about Ma Burns.

Well, maybe he is into sex but what I meant was the book doesn't mention much.

At the beginning of CBB, I did think Pete Burns was great. Loud, opinionated, etc. But it was like a watching a train wreck as it went on. The man clearly has a lot of issues, and I don't think the world of D-list celebrity is the best place to play out your emotional issues. He needs to be happy in himself before he can attempt to make the rest of us happy.

One of my friends made a comment like that and he was so sex obsessed the only way he could deal with it was to project his own feelings onto other people. That and take his straight student friends to the gay club and vainly attempt to shock us with his 'outrageous' lifestyle. I don't know why but all the gays seemed scared of me. I fucking adore the idea of abstaining from sex - it would be great? Would you not feel God like? I've never smoked, drank alcohol or took drugs in my life. I've been put off it forever by the criminal (and murderous) behaviour of my family.

Loved the book, but felt it was a missed opportunity. Hardly any information on why Pete and Lynne divorced and no mention of the fact that they were living in a threesome with Steve. The book makes mention of Steve being in the house, but the actual relationship isn't touched upon.
Pete had numerous male lovers during Nightmares In Wax and the various line ups of Dead Or Alive and these are skipped over too.
There's little mentioned about the other band members, Mike and Tim but at least we discover why Wayne Hussey quit.
I think Pete is a big talent, but has little discipline to generate work and despite being massive in Japan, they left it years between albums and missed a market that were hungry for material.
The 2004 collaboration with Pet Shop Boys, 'Jack And Jill Party' was excellent and there was talk of an album, but Pete buggered off abroad to have his numerous surgical procedures, which do dominate the book somewhat.
You do get the impression his Mother was a total fruitcake and probably shaped the misguided man we see today, but those chapters were very entertaining. Not enough photographs were included either, which is a travesty considering how many excellent images exist. That front cover is just dreadful and any of the 'Evolution' press shots would have been much better.
Still, I love most of DOA's output and the double 'Evolution' CD was really well chosen. 'Misty Circles', 'I Don't Wanna Be Your Boyfriend' and 'DJ Hit That Button' still make my heart race.
I'm not surprised if Pete is in prison, as he seems to live outside of reality and the law. A former shag of mine was responsible for sectioning him the first time round, and said he was 'a fucking nightmare in stilletoes'. Allegedly.

Just finished the book while repeatedly listening to Nude - the only Dead Or Alive album I have - I couldn't believe when I heard that album, it was so good yet no PWL involvement at all. Mybe SAW did it but were paid to not say so?
As for the book, the start is very similar to the Boy George/Holly Johnson ones, then it's madness. I wish there was more info on releases, chart positions etc but I guess those never sell books. I found the Surgery / Ghosts / Psychic stuff boring and wish there was more about his lovers. The part when he writes about straight Arab men paying to watch him take a bath? Hilarious!! He mentions a Mel & Kim track called "Sisters" - he must mean System, right? Oh and the love for Transvision Vamp? He is also obsessed with NOT being obsessed by David Bowie, ok we get that Pete! Overall a good read like reading areally long Smash Hits article remixed by Heat while being read by Trisha.
Am ordering their best of DVD pronto!
