Carriw Underwood first 'aroused my interest' when I heard her singing Bless The Broken Road on American Idol. I also remember Rosie Ribbons singing a mean That's What Friends Are For on Pop Idol 1 (the best ever reality show). My favourite, though, was something I heard again on You Tube the other day - Nadine Coyle's stylised, stylish and spirited performance of Fields Of Gold. Could be her first solo single? How about anyone else?

Carrie Underwood is farmers material. It's all about Kelly Clarkson & The Aloud.
Nadines solo single should be a Richard X produced belter. It would be such a shame to waste a big voice on something as pathetic as Chewing Gum.

My favourite reality TV performace would be Fame Academy 2's Carolynne - either 'Underneath Your Clothes' or 'Little Lies'. Whatever happened to her? I thought that coming third we might have got an album from her...

Nadine Coyle's stylised, stylish and spirited performance of Fields Of Gold. Could be her first solo single? How about anyone else? That is in my Top 25 on I-Tunes. I love her 'Show me Heaven' as well. The first performance of 'Sound of the Underground' has to be up there. Purely for the 'Fuck me, this is a bit different to the boys effort' factor.

Jennifer Hudson from American Idol season 3 when she sang 'circle of life'. That was amazing!

Kimberley Locke's New York State of Mind (American Idol, Season 2) was absolutely brilliant. From that same season, I've also got fairly great remixes of Trenyce's renditions of Proud Mary and Love Sneakin' Up On You.

When Simone did Midnight Train To Georgia on Fame Academy 2, I was blown away, but nothing she did after that lived up to it.

Her version of 'Heartbreaker' on the Bee Gees Special album they did is tremendous though, miles better than the version she did on the show.

I loved Clay Aiken's (American Idol, Season 2) performance of "Bridge Over Troubled Water". What can I say? I was 14 and thought he was cute.

His performances of "To Love Somebody" and "Don't Let The Sun Go Down on Me" were also great. Those are some of my favorites, along with "Without You" and "Stuff Like That There" from Kelly Clarkson in season 1. Not to mention LaToya London's "All By Myself from season 3. I was also a sucker for season 4's Anthony Fedorov's "I Surrender"...the Celine Dion song. I haven't seen much of the UK shows, but I liked Nadine's "Show Me Heaven" performance from Popstars Rivals.

Christ, no.
Chris was the most technically impressive singer out of a pretty rotten bunch - but didn't he just know it. Among the incessant scales, trilling and warbling it was virtually impossible to tell which song he was actually attempting. His version of Ain't Nobody was like a road accident in slow motion, and gets my vote as the worst TV performance (Rowetta bawling her way tunelessly through Over The Rainbow comes a close second).
My personal favourites:
Nadine - Fields Of Gold Cheryl Tweedy - Right Here Waiting Will Young - Ain't No Sunshine Alex Parks - Tainted Love

Actually, another corker is Nicola Roberts, I'm So Excited. I remember liking Kim Marsh's voice in Popstars, but I can't remember anything she sang.

I hate Kim Marsh but her voice is better than Kim Walsh's voice. (i know totally random and pointless but what the heck).
How awful was Kimberley Aloud on Popstars? She is my favourite Aloud though. I call her Passenger Aloud, because of her being the most useless one. Like Jenny Frost from Atomic Kitten and Michelle from Destiny's Child.

She was a bit shite vocally, but her audition was quite good. Can't remember any of her performances otherwise. Not a fan of the Marsh either - maybe she stood out because she was a bit older and had had more practice at auditioning than the others. Bought the video of popstars for 59p the other week. Nicky Chapman and that Paul guy really were irritating judges. Agree with browneyedboy about simone on Fame Academy - I loved Paris's performance of Midnight Train To Georgia on American Idol the other week too. Talking of Paris, does anyone remember that Paris guy on one of the Fame Academys?

Yes that's right. I seem to remember a bit when they'd just got in thereand one of them was playing the piano on his own. Paris walked intothe room after announcing "i godda go an jaym" (I've got to go and jam) and started this horrendous ad lib about life i the Fame Academy and about how they'd all be there and wouldn't leave until they got voted off (duh?!). Highly embarrassing.

Christ! I don't remember that, unfortunately, but it's quite amusing that he almost has the same second name as Pauline from League Of Gentlemen. I did used to hate it on Fame academy when they used to sing songs about being in there.

Not to say a singer can't try something new, but going for the WOW factor just doesn't seem to suit that particular song.

I think there were a lot of very good performances and to a very great extent I put that down to the fact that on the whole they were given very good songs to sing that had stood the test of time.
In my opinion the worst performances were given by those who were so caught up in the idea of doing something different and making the songs their own, that they completely lost sight of what made the songs so good in the first place.
My best performance was by Gareth Gates, probably Mack the Knife with Yesterday a close second.
Must go and look for Nadine and Fields of Gold.
