Er, no. The only 'passionate hatred' I've seen on this thread has been from Dr B, who doesn't count by virtue of the simple fact that he hates almost everyone. As far as I can see, there are those who like her, and those who think she is, well, boring. Which scarcely amounts to hatred. My problem is really that most of the Rachel apologists come up with arguments like 'there are worse popstars' which isn't terribly compelling in my book. It's the Geri Halliwell mantra 'but she's entertaining' which is very seldom accompanied by examples of why she is so. Agreed. I've posted on here about her because someoen started a thread. I would never have started one about her myself, because I don't really have an extreme opinion about her. I neither hate her or like her. Like smudge, i find her boring. She's just there.

I think Rachel will be around for a while yet, another album at least. Basically, Rachel has star quality but she's too scared to be controversial or express any sort of an opinion in case it's not what the public wants to hear and it leads to her failing...but she's failing just as much by being bland. And I don't see why she continued to promote Sweet Dreams after it had peaked in the charts. She should have started promoting FunkyDory (which would have gone top 10 if she put half as much work into promoting that as she had Sweet Dreams) and then released another single from the album, before Some Girls.
If Rachel wants to last in the music business for a long time she needs to get her personality out and make albums of much better quality. Her first one was terrible, bland, and forgettable due to the fact that they rushed it out to cash in on the success of Sweet Dreams, but it kinda backfired as it ended with them picking a dozen half assed filler songs, having her whisper sing them over a boring "funky" backing track and it just came across as effortless. Compare it to Christina's "Stripped", Britney's "In The Zone" and Girls Aloud's "Sound of the Underground" and it's totally shit. She needs to get away from Simon Fuller and under Louis Walsh with the help of Xenomania.
Sorry, that was long.

You see, to me that is the reasoning as to why she has absolutely zilch star quality at all.

I really, really like Rachel.
I think if Funky Dory had been as successful as her first single more people would like her as she wouldn't have that flop single against her.
I also think most people say they find her album atrocious and her personality non existent because it's trendy. It's like Hear'say, people say their shit but I bet they liked Pure & Simple when it was released or own at least their first album.
I think she's really sweet and polite and totally not the person you'd expect if you listened to half of her songs and had a look at some of her modelling shots. I also love her album and think a re-release will do her good.
Whether or not she gets to make a second album doesn't bother me in the slightest as most of the artists I like even get to make a first.

I can assure you I for one hated Pure and Simple and Hear'Say. I don't call Rachel boring cos it's trendy, I call her boring because she's boring.
But she makes good pop tunes. She is not a clown or idiot. Just a bit bland.

Or, according to the NME, a 'charisma vortex'.
That had me laughing. And I never knew she was 26. Her career will soon be over anyway by virtue of the fact this country is ageist. Look at Geri Halliwell, she's forty odds and everyone just laughs at her now.

Yes, that's why Morrisey is number 3 in the midweeks. That high! My oh my oh my my! He used to be good. Indeed I'm listening to The Smiths now and I love them but Morrissey...well he's not what he used to be I suppose but age has nothing to do with that. Possibly living in LA.

my theory - yes i know we all have one of those...
cathy dennis sings all rachel's songs and she mimes over them.
let's face it, if she could sing like that she'd want to prove to everyone she could and go out of her way to dismiss rumours. Look out your old cathy dennis tracks, you'll hear what i mean.. sounds just like her.
the end of my theory, i thank you.

It's not your theory, or at least you are not the first to come up with it. It's the theory that's been going around for aons.
More specifically the theory is that Cathy's vocals are blended with Rachels so there is still some Rachel in there for some of it at least.
There is also a commonly held belief that Cathy's vocals are blended into the backing vocals for S Club 8, and half of Toxic.

There is also a commonly held belief that Cathy's vocals are blended into the backing vocals for S Club 8, and half of Toxic. In which case she is a prime imitator who can change her voice remarkably well. If you've heard any Cathy Dennis solo material, her voice gets breathier and lower into the 90s as she gets older. Since she's now a smoker and into her thirties, there's a likelihood that her attempts to do S Club 8 - unless it was the boys - or most of Toxic wouldn't sound particularly similar. And besides, she may well do backing vocals on the final versions. Karen Poole's vocals on Under the Thumb for Amy Studt and Red-Blooded Woman are clear and audible, easily as loud as Kylie in some parts.

That's what I mean by them being blended in. The story for the former Juniors is that it's quite low-level for the group singing. Not so much that people would notice there is a mature voice, but loud enough to help even out some of the annoyingness that comes with immature vocals.
It's not a simple case of singing for the artists, but clever technology helping her to beef up their vocals, but have some sense of their own identity.

I could actually believe that. Listen to Some Girls. When Rachel sings the word 'car' it has a weird quality in it, as though her vocal has been stretched or something. Listen to her sing, she's crap and she knows it. So does everyone. God my friend (who is gay and has crap taste in music) even laughs at her.
Also, I know a lot about music post production and know from experience how easy it si to do electro music. It really is simple. My friend is a bit of a music whizz too and he says Rachel's voice 'is auto-tuned to death' and now that Cathy Dennis theory is floating about, I can hear what people mean.
