I've just watched their performance at the Poll Winners' Party (I'd taped it) and it was so dire I couldn't resist. They were embarrassingly shite to look at and to listen to. They can't write, they can't sing, they can't play, they can't move well and they haven't even got the decency to look good In fact two out of three of them look positively minging.
I'm sorry but they suck.

They were not very good at Poll winners. I'm not sure if I've ever heard them sing well live to my knowledge. - wouldn't stop me jumping around singing at the top of my voice at any concert though. I do like the songs though, the studio versions are great!
P.S. so which one was the not minging one?

. I'm not sure if I've ever heard them sing well live to my knowledge. Surely the ability to perform well live is just as important as to sound good in the studio? It's not talent if you can't cut it live. Personally, I think they are usually good live, and maybe the two sold out arena tours show that. I saw them in March and it was a fantastic performance, they were also good at the Brits, and when they did 'Mummy Trade' on CD:UK they sounded great.... I could go on. It seems stupid though to just like a band based on studio recordings, these can be tweaked to sound good, whereas live can show talent (or not as the case may be). Their songs are very simple, with totally meaningless lyrics, but that is part of the appeal. Maybe one day they will start writing more mature songs, but they're a pop band, and at the moment pop acts aren't coming out with songs with meaningful lyrics. And on to looks, surely it's irrelevant. It's all about the music!

Surely the ability to perform well live is just as important as to sound good in the studio? yeah, don't get me wrong they don't always sing badly, it just sounds as though the jumping around is interfering with the actual singing - kind of like when you sing and run at the same time, it all goes a bit pear shaped, and they start shouting and you can't hear the melody...etc... ...It's coming back to me, I think they were quite good on Johnathan Ross back in March, and what you could hear of them at Party in the Park was good aswell. But it's like they said - you can do anything over here and the crowds will love it, but they said they've really had to pull out the stops in America. Maybe my standards are too high and I'm expecting them to be perfect live- as they would be on a CD?

*puts fingers in ears, la la la I cant hear you!*
I dont think I could ever hate the busted...no matter how crap they are live and no matter how bad matts hair gets!! he he...
I agree sometimes I think 'ooh bit out of tune there' and sometimes 'a bit out of tune' is a bit of an understatement!!!! And a lot of time they do just sound out of breath, but I went to a busted concert this summer gone and it was so good! McFly were on before them too, and they were ok, but theres something about Busted which makes them better. And thats all I have to say...i'll go now

I thought Busted were great at Poll Winners - I enjoyed the performance! At least they change it a bit and don't do the same old status quo time after time. And I'm especially liking Matt's random jigging he's developed on stage!
And they do have some meaningful lyrics. Not a lot granted, but they mean things to me, anyway. The shallowness of being a teenager. I love Better Than This, and Over Now. And Meet You There. And Losing You... etc etc etc rambling.
Wow Miss M, we seem to have the same avatar. Go us.
EDIT: Oh no we don't. What a moose I look.

Oh sorry I wasnt trying to turn this into a Busted vs Mcfly thing...i do like Mcfly!
Anyhoo... I love their more meaningful songs way more than songs like Air Hostess and WIGTSF. Sometimes those songs make me cringe! But Sleeping with the light on was the most meaningful song they released and it didn't do as well as the others. The lil kids want messy pants flying over France, not stuff like I cant liiiiive without you!

The problem they have is that if people want more meaningful lyrics there is a whole host of bands out there doing it a lot better and in tune. They is a lot less competition for shouting singing songs about fancying your teacher, air hostesses and time machines and they do that well.
They've never been very good live, but they seem to be getting worse. I don't think they are hearing what we hear and are getting more and more blase about their live singing skills, so get worse and worse. No wonder the kidz think Tabby was gr8 on Saturday.

It would be great if they the next album they come out with could be more 'Better Than This', 'Can't Break Thru' and 'Why' and less 'Air Hostess', then they may start to appeal to a wider audience, people who have the album will know that their song writing skills are actually quite good, but they're not the songs that get released.

Plus they seem to be going out of their way to look minging.

Plus they seem to be going out of their way to look minging. Yes. I'm sure that's exactly what they're doing, as we all know what a clever marketing tool that is. Just because you define them as 'minging', doesn't mean they are. I personally would have any one of their babies.

The worst marketing move Busted (or the record label)ever made was releasing 3am as a double A side with Thunderbirds then plugging Thunderbirds to death.
3AM was a much stronger song and a lot of non Busted fans I know really liked that song despite hating Busted.
I love Busted. I'm starting to feel sorry for them over the McFly thing. They've rather shot themselves in the foot with that one.

The intro to 3 am is great, but Charlie roaring is hilariously bad. Matt is hugely fit. If McFly follow the Busted path of getting better (..School For to 3 am) they'll end up brilliant because they've got a better starting point. (That said, Room on the 3rd floor is the only track I actually like.) Danny's voice is fantastic. And he's also fit. Well, cute, rather than fit. He looks like a monkey. Therefore McFly win. Busted are taking themselves too seriously now.

Yes its true, we can never seem to talk about one without talking about the other. Its happening far too often nowadays even when they are doing separate tours etc. I went to the Busted Band Aid concert today at Wembley and what did they do for the adverts? Play 2 McFly videos plus countless album/single/everything plugging I know its the whole "same management blah" but seriously, cant they just be separate bands now? Its really not fair on either of them.

It might be unfair and annoying to not be able to mention one without the other, but it's their own fault. They can't do interviews etc without mentioning the other so it's hardly surprising that everyone else follows suit.

Exactly, they piggy-backed marketing-wise - it saved them loads of money and this is the price they now must pay for the two for the price of one offer.

Exactly, they piggy-backed marketing-wise - it saved them loads of money and this is the price they now must pay for the two for the price of one offer. You're talking (typing) as if they're reading this. I'm sure they've got over the whole thing by now. McFly have been around for a while now and are well established with their *cough* smashhit awards and fanbase. And Busted are great (end of story) and really the two can't be compared: - we've all heard the music of both and it's obvious the differences in musical styles and the similarity is simply that they all play instruments, and use hair straighteners. - So back to your quote... does that mean you only don't like Busted because they're compared to McFly? You're not a raving McFly McFan, are you?

- So back to your quote... does that mean you only don't like Busted because they're compared to McFly? You're not a raving McFly McFan, are you? Nobody said that. I know what I'm saying (and I think Dudie agreed with me) is that nobody should complain about McFly always being mentioned when Busted are or vice versa, because they started it. Busted constantly mentioned McFly in interviews and McFly constantly mentioned Busted in interviews. It was part of the marketing. Not that I'm knocking it - it saved the record company a packet and it was a good idea from a business point of view. Saying people shouldn't talk about them both in the same topic is kind of like saying you shouldn't mention the amazing printer you got free with your equally amazing PC when PC World have been bombarding you with the offer incessantly.

It's not Busted I'm angry with, it's their bloody label.
They're trying to break my country right now, and the company is telling the street team leader to tell US to promote. The majority of us our 12-17, what can we do?
I'm not even sure iif Busted have any REAL control over what they do.

I saw Busted live on Friday night. They were ace as. I define how good a band is by how they sing live - it's kind of sensible, after all - and they were wicked. Spot-on notes, emo screaming from Charlie, gorgeous solos. The music's great, very rock live due to the amazing sound the guitars make. And they were looking rather dandy, too.

I saw them at their special Band Aid 20 concert at WA. They were everything the person above me said in their post and more.
Matt is one of the lovliest popstars around today - it must be said. He couldnt stop chatting and joking around with the audience, what a lovely boy!
