I personally prefer Junkie spelt with an ie rather than a y.

But it's the William S. Burroughs spelling!
Okay, Pete Doherty is a bloody junkie. I hate him.

Pete is a talented bloke with the problems (apart from his drug use and tendency to self distruction) of an over intrusive media too interested in his continuing drug problems, and a fanbase who worship hiom no matter what.
Having seen babyshambles live last year, I was disgusted with the way he thought he could perform in a state and not give a damn about the fans - but most of the crowd lapped it up. I don't go to gigs to see someone not be able to stand up properly.
And Carl was / is the talented one in the Libertines.

I think he needs help not hatred. Thing is there's many a junkie in the world, but none offered quite so much help as Pete D. I find this irritating. I don't hate him, but really think that the more the media shines on him the more culpable they are. So, hmmm, I do think he's an idiot, and all who worship at his altar can be his clowns. Maybe.

Thing is there's many a junkie in the world, but none offered quite so much help as Pete D. That's true, but I imagine when you're in that deep there's a certain amount of denial, and pretending that you don't need help. I hope he does get help and gets better, it would be such a waste of potential, and a human life.

He can be a twat , but he's also very talented, it's a shame he's gone and pissed it up the wall. It also really pisses me off that the tabloids are acting like over-controlling parents with Kate Moss, like just because she's pretty she's excused. It's so one-sided. I think part of his problem is down to Wolfman, when Pete was in rehab Wolfman called him up and said he was getting married so Pete would come back so they could get him on the drugs again.

He's had enough help. He's been sent to some of the best rehabs in the world - the Priory etc - had it all paid for and had a lot of support from his family and friends, yet every single time he's dropped out and fucked off to chase the dragon again. However much of a 'tortured genius' he may be, from my point of view he's an ungrateful little fuck and the reason he can't give up the drugs is because he simply doesn't want to.

I don't buy the whole tortured genius shit. Kurt Cobain - he became so interesting after he died and that's what rock does to its victims. Kurt Cobain was a junky too and a genius of pop music and yet it's clear he loathed his addiction. It tortured him (and he was a genius har har) and when I look at Pete I see him revelling in it all. Ugly fucker.

I don't hate him but I'm appauled at how many people admire him and talk about him like he's some kind of God.
And I agree with Dr Bastard (in parts of his last post). He's not some tortured genius. He looks like he adores all the attention. The fuss that those pictures caused at the weekend aren't going to help him, they just might have given him a new addiction - tabloid fame.

I can't wait to see him on the cover of Heat magazine. He will probably father Jade Goody's next child. He is not exactly going to be appealing to anyone who would have had a clue about his music if he is going to start craving attention from the tabloids. He looks quite pathetic and hopeless. I remember someone on this board insulted me quite rudely, although it did make me laugh at the time.

Addicts say it's like being wrapped in a warm blanket which is how I feel about benilyn original. However the heroin addicts always smelt much worse than the other addicts. On a related topic, it really pissed me off when Marti Pellow was talking about his love for smack and said that it never got so bad that he had to inject. A bit like an alcoholic saying he always drank from a glass and never the bottle. You were still a junkie Marti, and you still stank.

I hear he got arrested again last night for causing superficial damage to the face of another man in a hotel, or is this the latest Babyshambles publicity stunt?

Mr Carlish, 38, who has filmed a documentary on the singer's new band Babyshambles, said he needed hospital treatment for two black eyes and a broken nose.
According to reports, Doherty accused him of selling pictures apparently showing the musician smoking heroin to newspapers. Mr Carlish told The Mirror: "I was in a hotel with Pete and everything was going fine until he started demanding loads of cash.
"He wanted thousands and I knew he was going to go out and spend it on heroin.
"He was desperate for a fix. I said no and he went berserk, punching me. There was nothing I could do ... he was going mad.''

Yes aren't all those heroin addicts so fucking selfish? They should just drop their habits and get on with their life, after all heroin is only one of the most addictive substances known to man, how dare they struggle to give it up? How dare they feel like giving in to it when they're sweating and hallucinating and every inch of their body craves the drug and they feel like they'll die without it? Selfish bastards

How dare they feel like giving in to it when they're sweating and hallucinating and every inch of their body craves the drug and they feel like they'll die without it? Selfish bastards I know all about heroin addictions, trust me. I also know that beating it takes a lot of willpower along with professional help. 99% of heroin addicts can't afford to go to the Priory or some fancy rehabilitation center in Asia. They have to make do with the good old NHS. Pete has had many people (especially Carl Barat) bending over backwards giving him the chance to beat his addiction. Each time he has basically said 'Shan't' and dropped out of whatever well known rehab center he's had paid for him. That is what I call not helping yourself. As I mentioned, Carl Barat has done a lot for Pete. He stuck by him for a long time, but how did Pete repay him? By stealing some of his most prized posessions and slagging him off whenever a trendy music magazine is around, all because he's owed some royalties that everybody knows will be spent on drugs anyway. I think he likes the attention his addictions bring. He's treated like some sort of deity among his fans. He turns up late to gigs and when he does turn up he thrashes around like a prat because he's completely off his head. Yet still his fans are devoted to him. He has a good career, good friends (or at least he did until he pushed them over the edge) and a young son to think about. When you combine this with all the chances he's had to clean himself up, then yes, I do think he's selfish. Imagine his son being at school and being taunted because his dad's made a tit out of himself yet again and constantly fucks up everytime someone tries to help him. If he won't give up for himself he should give up for his son. I'm not saying it's easy to give up, but he's had it a hell of a lot easier than most other people in his position.

The fact that he is a mess aside, he looked like a prize idiot on CD:UK a couple of months ago. If you didn't see it, Babyshambles were performing, and Pete randomly jumped into the audience going for a true rockn'roll crowd surf (yes, at CD:UK) and he fell flat on his face. I couldn't stop laughing/cringing.

I took heroin the other day, just to see what the fuss was about. I have to say, it is rather morish. Years of codeine and co-proxamol seemed to render me invulnerable to the supposedly pleasing effects of chasing dragons. And it tastes absolutely vile. Give me a vodka and temazepam any day, that still takes me to special places.

Max Carlish said he wouldn't press charges but would pay for Pete to go to rehab - as long as he could film him while he was recovering. He goes on about how he's 'not about the money'. If he really cared then he wouldn't have sold the pictures. No wonder Pete went for him. I'm not excusing Pete's behaviour, obviously it's not okay for him to break his nose and give him two black eyes as is being reported.

Selfish bastards But I'm guessing he knew a little bit about the potential side-effects of the drug before he took it. Did Zammo OD for nothing? Anyone who chooses to take a known addictive and dangerous substance for a prolonged period of time is an idiot who deserves what they get (and I kind of suspect he wanted this lifestyle). He's not just a selfish bastard but a fish-faced talentless one at that.
