Wank stained new compilation album for those people who "seriously love music".
Usual suspects like The Doves, Athlete etc

No it's not. Tourist, Wires, Halflight, 24 Hours, YTEAM are great... need I go on?

Athlete are genious because I say so.
It's an album for those who like the songs on it... since when was that annoying?

Indie confessional time: I actually really like Athlete. Especially the first album which has some great tunes on it.
I should really hide now, shouldn't I?

I think starla meant the whole pretentious-up-its-own-arse musicians stating that this album is for people who love music as opposed to what they really mean (something probably along the lines of 'not that shite pop music listened to by retards and gays') which is annoying. and i kinda agree.

That's fair enough, because I hate that too. I love rock music, and it's faaar my favourite genre, but no way is it superior to any other genre, or any genre superior it in "real music" terms - because the phrase "real music" means nothing - The fucking Cheeky Girls are real music. Yes, it's crap music, but it's still music. But the album does rock.

'The Album' sounds like its for people who don't actually regularly buy CD's but buy one (i.e. this one) so they're 'up to date' and 'cool' and like 'real music'. It's pathetic. If you liked half the bands on there you'd go out and buy their sodding albums.

Minus the cool and "real music" crap, I'd say you could apply it to Now whatever they're on, and the Woman ones.

Two things about the word "the"
The (there's no "The"!) Doves are ace.
Agree with the comment about "The" Album being for people who want to be up-to-date without actually really investigating indiviual bands for themselves. Pure laziness.

to be honest I don't rate NOW compilations much either.
But the utter pretention and wankerness of 'The Album' type compilation gets me. An album for peoples Dads to buy for the car or for half asses 'alternative' people to buy and use the names for the bands as lables.
grrr

I find it amusing how they call it 'The Album '05' and then fill about half of it up with older successful songs from the likes of Radiohead, Oasis and Travis, presumably for fear of scaring off ''real music fans'' by including bands that they haven't heard on Virgin Radio.

Leaving aside the 'real' music debate, I suspect the main reason why most people will buy 'The Album' is because it has lot's of great songs by some excellent bands all on one album.

Which was exactly my point. I agree it's being promoted all wrong, but so is Rachel Stevens, and you all seem to love her.
