Has anyone loathed an artist to the point where you are planning assinations...then over time, became quite a fanatic ( and vice-versa )?

Girls Aloud...believe it or not...there was a time when I didn't like them, mainly because I was told not to like them and went in for the whole peer pressure thing.
Same with the Spice Girls. They really did jar me- I burnt a lot of their paraphanalia on a bonfire once. Now I fully appreciate their greatness. Except for the solo efforts.

Girls Aloud because I didn't like them as people and i thought that they didn't really deserve to win. I genuinely thought that they would flop after their first single. After the 'the drink' incident, i stopped liking them even more, but their second album won me over and whilst i still don't like cheryl or nicola, the other three seem like alright girls. Plus 'Love Machine,' is a bit of a tune.

For me it's Björk. Her first album, Debut, was released when I was about 13 or 14 and I was into 2 Unlimited at the time. I thought she was this crazy loon who just wailed over weird noises. Then I got into Violently Happy which I thought was brilliant, so I bought Debut and then decided that she was very talented and creative.

I hated Girls Aloud until No Good Advice. I thought Sound Of The Underground was a really poor song. Don't worry, folks, I'm feeling better now.
I loved Jamelia when the Thank You album first came out, but she's turned into a real up-herself diva - and now we find out that with her anti-gun statements and pro-gun-gang promo video she's a hypocrite too. Wanker.

McFLY, because they're total genious.
Also, I detested Avril Lavigne because I hated her whole attitude, and she seemed so desperate to be punk, the whole "I can be assed" with her video's and whatever, it was so fucking annoying!
But then she released Nobodies Home and made me love her.

I've had several ”I've seen the light”, “fuck me they're actually rather good”, type moments in my life. The most spectacular of which is my recent conversion to the greatness of David Bowie. My hostility level towards him has now been set to moderate. It was his album 'Reality' and first single 'New killer star' wot done it, both absolutely amazing.
Bizarrely, I now like some of his earlier stuff like ‘Ashes to ashes’ which I used to think was pants. Weird!

Shockingly enough I also used to hate the sadly departed Busted. I thought they were so contrived and hated What I Go To School For and Year 3000. I then pretended I hated You Said No when I didn't really, and me and my friends started to 'jokily' like them. And then my jokey love turned into full blown real love and I realised their true marvellousness.
God I miss them

BRITNEY! I still can't believe it! I loved Baby One More Time and then hated her with a passion up until Stronger! Then I came to my senses.

I hated Britney at first, too. But that was only in the very beginning, when "Baby One More Time" was released. I didn't like her song, I didn't like her. However, the album was given to me by a friend and I surprisingly really enjoyed it. Of course, today I think "Baby One More Time" is one of the best songs ever.

I loathed Busted to begin with. Then ended up going to 2 of their tours and ended up loving them.

I hate to admit it, but Girls Aloud. At first I thought they were everything wrong with the music industry - mass produced pop put together on a tv show. Then my new flat mate made me actually listen to them, and I realised they were actually brilliant.

I've heard you describe David has a cunt recently, are you going through some kind of lapse?. Anyway, I used to hate the Beatles but now love them to bits after hearing 'Hello, Goodbye'.

Many, many acts, I guess.
I suppose the biggest turnaround for me was Busted. I loathed them originally and I couldn't stand them. I hated watching them mime on TV when they first came out, and some of their live performances on programme were truly shocking and the vocals were very poor. I didn't start liking them until "3AM" came out, which "Thunderbirds Are Go" overshadowed a lot I guess.
Then they went and split up!
And with Britney, I don't think I ever truly appreciated her music until "Toxic".

It's like Sophiefrombloke said: peer pressure was a factor for me, until I had an epiphany and thought "fuck the lot of you - if you don't like it: I'll play it louder!" what a proud day it was when I came out of the Pop music closet! Now I like to keep an open mind about everyone (music-wise of course) - kind of...

I've heard you describe David has a cunt recently, are you going through some kind of lapse?. *chuckles* As you well know, only referring to David as a cunt marks progress for me. In the dark days, I used to call him much worse.

When I was younger I had all these weird dreams about being chased by Madonna (in a cone bra) and the wicked step mother from snow white- so I presume my subconscious had something against her- But now I LOVE HER!
At the start of the Spice Girls I hated Geri, but once she left and wrote 'If Only'/ released look at me she became my favourite spice girl...

I used to think Robbie Williams was an arrogant self obsessed wanker but I have just finished reading 'Feel', biography by Chris Heath and realise my perceptions were media induced.
Last week I bought the Knebworth DVD (kicking myself for turning down tickets) and 'escapology'.

The first time I saw Rachel Stevens perform 'Negotiate With Love' was on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and I was not impressed. In fact, my exact thoughts were "What in the name of God is this tripe?!" But the more I heard it, the more I grew to like it, and now I think it's fucking awesome! It's on repeat on iTunes as I type.

I have a few I used to hate but now love:
Girls Aloud is one. I used to despise them, I thought they were rubbish because they kept Blue out of the Christmas No.1 in 2002. I thought they couldn't sing and they were all bitches. Then I got curious when No Good Advice came out and downloaded it. I loved it. From then on, I was converted. The girls are now one of my favourite bands - I've spent almost $100 on importing their albums and whenever I see a GA video on TV or hear them on the radio I almost have a heart attack. I think Cheryl and Kimmi are awesome.
Billie Piper is another but she has a strange history with me. When she first started out, I liked her. I liked the first few singles, so I bought her album. It's quite good and I still like it to this day. But then she started dating Ritchie from Five, and I suddenly HATED her. I absolutely despised her! I still hated her after they broke up, but then last year my curiousity got the better me and I bought her second album. It's fabulous, and now Billie is cool with me again.
I used to hate Shakira too, Whenever Wherever was everywhere, it was No.1 for weeks on end and I was like 'Argh I can't stand her'. Then Underneath Your Clothes came out and I loved it instantly. I bought her album by chance, and ended up loving Shakira. I even love Whenever Wherever now.
Christina Aguilera is like Billie with me. I loved Christina when Genie In A Bottle came out, but for some strange reason I started hating her. I dunno why I did, I can't think of any reason why. But when Dirrty came out, I couldn't deny it. I loved it! I bought Stripped on the merits of that song, and found I loved it. Christina became one of my favourite singers from then on. That was at a time when I preferred Christina to Britney. Now I love both (because In The Zone is a wonderful album)!
