Am I the only one who hates it? And Peter Kay for being one of the unfunniest people alive. And Ricky Gervais and Johnny Vegas too for that matter.

Thank the lord! I totally agree, the video more boring than David Gray, and Peter Kay is the most annoying man in the world.

Peter Kay for being one of the unfunniest people alive. And Ricky Gervais Maybe you just don't find humour funny? Because if you can't see and enjoy the talent in those two then you're missing something.

I think Peter Kay is as funny as having terminal cancer.
His comedy is base level, boring stuff anyone could tell. Jokes about not knowing how to use the internet or "ooh arnt answer phones funny". Cunt.
His mentality and 'pride' in being ignorant to development is one of the things that makes me ashamed to be from the north.

Right, well since his jokes make me laugh and anyone can tell them. You tell one now and I'll see if it makes me laugh. No, here you've just missed the point really. And I'm not sure "base" means what you think it does. And if it does then, again, you've really missed the point. That doesn't make him a cunt that just makes him a comedian you don't get.

I find both Peter Kay and Ricky Gervais funny. Although I do really enjoy Peter Kay's stand-up I think I prefer Phoenix Nights and That Peter Kay Thing. Now watch those and tell me anyone could be funny, because I don't think they could.

It is amusing when Ronnie Corbit falls over, but it does get on my nerves. I dont find Peter Kay all that funny, at times he is, but for the most part cringe worthy.

I like Peter Kay but he doesn't have me in stitches. He's funny, definitely. I can see why he's regarded as one of the funniest comedians around but in my opinion he is nowt compared to the mighty Bill Bailey.
Amarillo is shite. I've never heard of Tony Christy/however you spell it in my life and neither has my mum (who is like a walking encyclopedia of crooners). BUt hey.
Also, one thing that's been bothering me, I thought All About You was the Comic Relief song? Why are there two now?

No, Tim, I see his humour but it is not THAT funny. Its really basic about very basic things which quite frankly bore me and dont interest me. For example I dont care that his Gran doesnt know how to leave an answerphone message. Its not funny, its just a little bit sad.
I even bought his blackpool DVD in an effort to try like him, but I find his stuff bland and didnt really do anything for me.
He is well over publicised for what he is. Dont like his comedy and hate how he comes across.
I do like Bill Bailey though, I bought his Part Troll DVD at the same time as I parted money for Mr Kay's. Bailey is a genius and has a very broad and vast knowlege. His musical talents alone are fantastic.

and back to that bloody Amarillo song; some bastard walked past my desk earlier humming it and smiling smugly as though it makes him suddenly 'cool' and in with the kids. I think humming that bloody song is up there with those stupid people who sing theme tunes to adverts and TV shows as though they were top pop hits. Catching leprosy would be too good for them.

Catching leprosy would be too good for them. I'm sure everybody who owns Peter Kay's dvds would much rather trade them in and watch a selection of your terminal illness gags; particularly those suffering from said illnesses.

No, Tim, I see his humour but it is not THAT funny. Its really basic about very basic things which quite frankly bore me and dont interest me. For example I dont care that his Gran doesnt know how to leave an answerphone message. Its not funny, its just a little bit sad. But that's exactly what I mean about not getting it. You think it's about those things. But that's not seeing the wood for the trees. I don't think comedy works like that. If it did then no comedy would be funny. You like Bill Bailey - well what's he doing other than talking about animals and orcs all the time? If you break it down to its core components then no comedy seems funny. It's not what it's about it's the way he says it. It's all in his timing and delivery and the ear he has for language. I'm not interested in magic tricks going wrong but Tommy Cooper has me in tears. I don't care about the workings of a hotel but Fawlty Towers is still immaculate comedy. I think you're only seeing the surface of what Kay's doing and not the magical details underneath. Or it's just not to your taste. Doesn't make it rubbish though. His technique alone is masterly. I have a lot of successful comedian friends and they all bow to his technique and talents as a writer. I'm not having a go. I think it's genuinely interesting when people just can't see what's funny about something that has other people in stitches. But I don't think that makes the comedian a cunt or worthy of the kind of dismissal I'm reading here. That's just a nonsense to me since all they're trying to do is make you laugh which is a wonderful thing whether they succeed or not. He doesn't make you laugh, so what? Can't please everyone. He isn't though. He isn't over publicised. He gets publicity because millions of people like him. It's directly in proportion to how popular he is. His career has actually been very slow and organic. He's at the top of it now and everyone wants a piece of him so it's bound to be very high profile. You can't hate someone for being successful at what they do if what they do doesn't hurt anyone (and there are few careers we can say that about).

I'm still waiting for you to make me laugh. he made me laugh... Well I dry comedy does nothing for me. If I hear one more person say that that scene in The Office were that fat loser dances is 'legendary' I think I'll sock them one. And for some reason stupid kids love that Amarillo song. All the idiots in the year below me who added me on MSN to be cool and have a 6th year in their list have screen names like "(8)(*) iS tHiS tHe WaY tO aMaRiLlO...." and thus proves how sad the whole thing is. Leave the comic relief songs to McFly thank you very much.

Who are the people in the video? Now that is cheesy. I have to say I only watch it to make myself feel better, knowing that I'm not too much like any of those people in the video.
Why the fuck are we arguing about who's funny when really, it's fairly clear that Eddie Izzard is a comic genius. Ricky Gervais pales in comparison to him.
On a tangent...are Peter and Vernon Kay related? My dad argues that 'They're both from Bolton, they both have blue eyes and dark hair'.

Well, I'd heard of him. Someone on this board even got very excited that he was touring (supported by Carolyne Good). And surely everyone knew the song? Maybe there was a page missing in your mum's mind based encyclopedia.

Who are the people in the video? Now that is cheesy. Sophie meet the point, the point meet Sophie. Oh no, you appear to missed each other. Since you don't know who they are how on earth can you feel smug about not being them. They're all, for one thing, more successful in their chosen fields than you are. Yeah, of course. Because Cows was a far superior sitcom to The Office.

If I hear one more person say that that scene in The Office were that fat loser dances is 'legendary' I think I'll sock them one. Yeah, cause that would make sense. Other people enjoying something you don't. Well that's just asking for it really. There's nothing to feel superior about. You don't get a joke. That doesn't make you better than anyone else. You're just missing out on some funny. And that's a shame. Because funny = good.

Sophie meet the point, the point meet Sophie. Oh no, you appear to missed each other. I was referring to another post, in which I've been told that Girls Aloud are cheesy. Girls Aloud are nothing in comparison to this. Since you don't know who they are how on earth can you feel smug about not being them. They're all, for one thing, more successful in their chosen fields than you are. It really does how you define 'success'. If it's becoming a total burnout a la Bez and Shaun Ryder, I know I can easily beat them, but I don't really want to. Yes, they're famous, but not for the best reasons. I'd rather be unknown and credible than known but on par with The Birdie Song in terms of crapness. Yeah, of course. Because Cows was a far superior sitcom to The Office. All a matter of opinion. I have yet to watch a full episode of The Office. I did get what it was meant to be doing, I just didn't find it funny. Sexie is a helluva lot funnier than Animals.

I think the video's ace, the song's suitably naff (ooh, the irony! etc etc) and Peter Kay is a living genius.

It really does how you define 'success'. If it's becoming a total burnout a la Bez and Shaun Ryder, I know I can easily beat them, but I don't really want to. They're famous for being in two very successful and much loved groups. I'd like to see you try and beat that. What does that mean though? How can you be credible and unknown? Who would know? Credibility is utterly meaningless if all it takes is for you to be unknown. And most of the world knows the Birdy Song (though I don't know what that has to do with anything). That's success. Anything else is self-delusion. Yes but opinions must be qualified or they're worthless. You are not entitled to an opinion on The Office just as I am not entitled to have an opinion on the colour of your bathroom wall (I've not seen that either). And two, Izzard's standup should be better than Gervais'. Animals was his very first attempt at doing standup ever whereas Izzard had been at it for years when he made that. Animals was a side project yet was still very popular and a best selling dvd. What are you trying to prove? You not getting a joke proves nothing, as I keep repeating. It just proves you don't get something that others do. So what?

I personally don't find Peter Kay funny. The only comedians who make me laugh out loud are Bill Bailey and Dave Gorman, who is quite the most hilarious standup I have ever seen in my life. Peter Kay is, to me personally, bland and unfunny, but that is solely my personal viewpoint, and whilst I also do not find Ricky Gervais remotely funny, I can appreciate that many people do.

They're famous for being in two very successful and much loved groups. I'd like to see you try and beat that. Somehow I think drugs binges and Celebrity Big Brother had more to do with it, though. At least in my generation. What does that mean though? How can you be credible and unknown? Who would know? Credibility is utterly meaningless if all it takes is for you to be unknown. And most of the world knows the Birdy Song (though I don't know what that has to do with anything). That's success. Anything else is self-delusion. I was using the word 'unknown' in the broader sense of the word, to mean not-famous. The Birdie Song's annoying as fuck, just like this song. That's why I think it's crap, and that's why I don't want to be like it. Success is defined by individual needs and desires. One person could consider success being in a Peter Kay/Tony Christie music video...I hope to be something different. So what? I've seen enough of The Office to know that Ricky Gervais actually scares me. All of the people I know who watch it aspire to be like David Brent, making me feel that possibly a proportion of the audience don't actually 'get' The Office. Izzard is just wicked. To be honest, I'm not bothered if other people don't like him, because if he was popular across the country I'd hate him. There's something inherrently hateable about patriotism and joining the masses in their ideas and views, in my humble opinion.
