Go on then... Given that we can't stand 99% of the current Radio 1 Djs - who would you bring back?
Personally, I'm a massive fan of the Mayo. Not only was he a big music fan, but he was a proper radio enthusiast - full of ideas and superb with the public. The Confessions slot, for example, is one of the few genuinely original features to come out of Radio 1 - even though it never warranted the notoriety of "Our Tune".
Nicky Campbell and Mark / Lard used to be great in the graveyard slot - but lost something in the translation to daytime. This was back in the day when the late-night programme could have interviews with Frankie Howerd, or a poetry competition. Nowadays, it would have to be texts about vomiting.
Bizarrely, Jackie (Jakki?) Brambles used to do the Evening Session before Steve 'NME' Lamaq came along and ruined everything. I remember her getting very excited about artists like Living Colour and Martika. Can you imagine Zane Lowe doing that?
Obviously, DLT and Simon Bates were rubbish. We know this because Harry Enfield told us.
What does everyone else reckon?

I found it a shame people considered Mark And Lard to have run their course, and an even bigger shame that they got split up. Anyone know if Lard still has his show on BBC 6 Music?

Mark and (the boy) Lard.
Twas good seeing Mark Radcliffe taking the prime role for the Beeb's Glasto coverage last weekend.

Disposing of, or deposing Mark and Lard to replace them with Colin and Edith was the worst move R1 has made in its recent history.
From the sublime to the ridiculous.
The very fact that they could, and did, venture into the surreal, coupled with Marks burning passion for music of all kinds, and their general intelligence and innovation made their show a daytime highlight.

I remember her getting very excited about artists like Living Colour and Martika. Can you imagine Zane Lowe doing that? Was she before Mark Goodybags then? I thought that was Janice Long? I used to enjoy Simon Mayo before he went to radio 2. Strange, never thought I'd say that. I reckon a Collins & Maconie show would be good, even in this day and age...but they're all over at radio 2 now too.

I remember her getting very excited about artists like Martika I don't remember Jackie Brambles at all but I'd vote for her purely for the reason in your quote.

The thing about the old dinosaurs like DLT and co. is that at least they were ridiculous and crap. The current mob are just boring and crap which is far worse. There was affection in the Smashie and Nicey parody which you could never feel for the anodyne indie pumpkin-head Whiley or the self-proclaimed fat Northern c*nt Moyles (who is so outrageous he's never actually done anything to get him sacked).
What pisses me off most about Radio 1 is that their playlist is dictated by some management suit with not a trace of pop stardust in his dull corporate soul.
