Hmm... i purchased the new Girls Aloud DVD the other day after being told that the MTV Hits show i always manage to miss was on it. I was told they sang live, but to my horror they mimed to pre-recorded vocals (very well i must add) but Cheryl seemed to fuck it up in most places (Take a look at ISBY on the 2nd bridge.. she forgets to mime.)
Argh, i though they proved they could sing live on Popstars 2?
What gives?

I don't mind miming but I despise is when someone makes a career of it. You can sing live and dance....Madonna at Live8 blew everyone offstage with her brainy brilliance. People like Rachel and Geri will never be taken seriously for the simple fact they aren't singers in the traditional sense. Despite that I always grudgingly respect a pop group for going live even if they hit a few bum notes.

Oh i dont mind Girls Aloud Miming, if they sang live they would sound terrible (i blame Cheryl) But Nadine is a fantastic singer, i would love to duet with her one day.
Buy My new album 'Tissues And Issues' out 11th JULY 2005.

I dont mind too much as long as they dont do it ALL the time and that they make up for it with a cracking performance. Although Britney mimes most of the time and i dont mind that. Mainly because she hot and her performances are spectacular!

Did they sing live on their arena tour? I remember when they first performed 'SOund of the Underground' on CD:UK. They sang live and they sounded awful. Maybe they learnt from that mistake?

I think it depends on the artist usually, but I prefer most to not mime unless they are really bad at live singing... alternatively, why not mime in promotion of a single and sing live after its release?

It gets me, you have to sing live when it's huge events such as Live8, and Eurovision (That's how Javine struggled), but not for a TV show for just a few minutes?
To me the likes of TOTP and CD:UK, should introduce an orchestra or a live band, that would prove how talented and how good some of these pop acts are....

Personally, I will never lip-synch unless it came down to the fact that I actually COULDN'T sing, as in I was sick, or the show didn't allow it. If by any rare chance that would happen, I'd make a whole spectial of it to let them know that I was indeed lip-synching... Maybe do some backflips while "singing" or something. I don't really have a problem with other peope doign it though. I wish they wouldn't. I'd much rather hear some shit notes here and there and know that yes indeed that is really them singing than the already recorded audio.
