They're back!! Did they ever go away? I didn't realise they were still around. But look! New single! Hurrah!

I have a Helen Love album, which I bought because I love that type of cheap punky pop Bis style music.

Ahh!!!!!!!!!! Fantastic. I've got a couple of their singles from what feels like years ago. One's called Shifty Disco Girl and the other....Jump Up And Down? Would have to dig them out. I actually don't own Does Your Heart Go Boom, which is probably a crime in some countries.

Ooh, has anyone actually heard the single?
I don't know how true this is, but I've heard elsewhere that Helen of Helen Love now plans to take a back seat and get another girl to front the project while she continues to write the material. Apparently she doesn't have the energy for it now that she is married with a baby (which was certainly news to me!)
Does anyone have 'Long Live The UK Music Scene'? I can't find it anywhere...
EDIT : And oddly enough, as soon as I posted this I finally found it after weeks of searching. God bless Soulseek!

The new single is ace, they're playing it a lot on 6 Music. Although I'm not sure just how new the song is, I don't know that much about the band, but I'm sure I've heard it long before now. I do know that Helen had a baby back in 2000 (or around then), so maybe she's got a new one? Where's Flum, the resident Helen Love expert when you need him? I actually don't own Does Your Heart Go Boom, which is probably a crime in some countries. In Wales most likely. Your post has just reminded me about the ace 12", full of Cuban Boys remixes, I have of that, complete with a picture of the Cubans actually on the disc, in flocking!

I don't think I can lay any claims to be an expert, but I'll do my best...
Helen still fronts the band as far as I know, it's definitely her on the new single anyway. Possibly if they were to tour in the future, she might take a back seat for that, but Helen Love have never really done much in the way of live work, and that probably won't be changing. She did do some promo for the new single - well, appeared on Phill Jupitus' Breakfast Show - but that was in Cardiff, so it wasn't like she had to travel too far.
Debbie loves Joey, the lead track, was availiable as a free download on their undervisited website (http://www.helenlove.com - join up and you can get a free download of their theme to Dave Gorman's Googlewhack Adventure) late last year, and it might have got some radio play around then, but if it sounds familiar it's probably more down to the fact that a) All Helen Love songs are so ace they immediatly sound like a hit song that you've always known and loved and b) Helen seems to work by constantly refining their style down, trying to find the ultimate solid gold nugget of pop goodness, so there's always familiar references in their tracks.
And Helen Love are ace. They're the lo-fi Girls Aloud.

The new single also comes in bubblegum pink vinyl! Surely a good enough reason to buy it? Even if you don't have a turn table!

Right I'm confused. This seems to be a 'pop music' forum, but I thought this artist was new york punk style because of the song about Joey Ramone. I can't get why a girls aloud obsessive would want to hear a song about Joey Ramone.. is there something about this forum/helen love/girls aloud I'm not getting!?

because it's brilliant popmusik. what other reason is there to listen to a song?
they're definitely not new york punk style, they're way better than that.

Heh - I've not heard it. I would love it to be a bubblegum punk cover of Girls Aloud, but I don't think it is...is it? Superb artwork though.

nope, neither Long Hot Summer nor Long Hot Summer 2 is a cover. they're both original songs (well, as original as any HL stuff gets...) www.myspace.com/helenlove had them both at some stage i think
