being new to popjustice, I just realised that there are lots of great things that I missed out on completely, basically because not being in the UK anymore, it's kinda difficult to keep up, and also ,the charts just didn't seem to be that intersting anymore, so I started looking towards Europe and American Synthpop for my Popthrills...so I was just wondering: If there's one album of the last few years that I should absolutely get, which one would that be?

For American synthpop look no further than Give Up by the Postal Service. I'd also highly recommend Non Zero Sumness by Planet Funk (Italian dance-pop)

Lali Puna - Faking the Books.
It's electro-ish, it's paranoid, it's angry, it's got great tunes and it's multi-lingual.
However, I would also be bending the rules and pushing for either of Juana Molina's albums too.
They're electro-ish, dreamy and more fun than a skip full of Rooster.

Nitin Sawhney - PHILTRE.
Not only is it his best album to date it's also quite easily the best album of 2005 for me. It's a rich tapestry of global sounds ranging from Trip-Hop, classical Asian, Blues and Flamenco, interwoven skilfully with downtempo beats to form a wonderful backdrop for the range of excellent guest vocals on show. Which, depending on who is singing shifts between English and Asian. I can’t recommend this album high enough, it’s a must for anyone’s music collection.

Charlotte Hatherley - Grey Will fade.
An ace album full of pop-indie from the very lovely Charlotte from Ash.

I have to second Give Up by the Postal Service.
My own suggestion would be The Faint - Danse Macabre

Ditto! I might have suggested this, if someone hadn't beaten me to it, but I'm not bitter. Bitch!Although, if you're into abit of electro as your post implies then look no further: Client - City. This album is godly.

I was starting to think I was the only fan here. I'm not quite sure if Philtre is his best yet (I keep changing my mind but I'm currently leaning towards Prophesy) but it's still a remarkable album. Journey in particular is mind-blowing, as indeed are Everything, Throw, Flipside and Noches En Vela Part 2. And the closing track, Sanctuary, is blissfully lovely.
