He made a new album. And not one of those hard-to-find soundtracks for art installations recycling endlessly his earlier work. No. An album of songs. Just like Another Green World. It can't be any less that the album of the year. I've been waiting for this for more than ten years (since Wrong Way Up really).

ive still not got round to buying / listening to his solo works. I nearly bought his drawn from life album a few years ago but forgot about it.
Love his work with bowie on outside and much of his production with people. In particular the James track i know what im here for.

new album of proper music?
i can't wait.
eno is one of the great reluctant popstars- all that fancy-dan minimalist avant-garde business may be fantastic [it is], but when it comes to actual 'songs' hes up there with the very best.
when is it out?

I like the Laurie Anderson track on Drawn From Life but it's a bit of a "play-it-a-few-times-then-file-it-away" kind of album.
This is a terrible confession, but I've never heard the Eno song albums, only the ambient ones.
Should I be chastised?

I'm going to see her next Wednesday at The Barbican.
The show is all about her experiences as artist in residence at NASA.
Yes, she thinks it was quite strange too.
I've seen her a few times and she is great live.
Very funny and completely loopy.
I *heart* Laurie but would never kiss her husband.

This is a terrible confession, but I've never heard the Eno song albums, only the ambient ones. Should I be chastised? You should listen at once to them. They've just been reissued in nice digipacks and should appeal to anyone who likes sophisticated pop music. I think 'Backwater' is probably the perfect pop song (on Before And After Science'). But I agree with your view on Drawn From Life (the same could probably be said about most of his records from the last ten years).

images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B0009HL7JM.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg [/img] The single-to-be "This" is excellent. A simple, but effective and damn catchy pop song set over all-out modern electronica, with delightfully crunchy percussion and beautifully placed and chosen synth sounds -- No retro 80's tosh here. Big Bri's vocal sounds somewhere between Moby and Neil Hannon...closer to Moby though. The overall effect is closest to "Kid A" era Radiohead, if a tad poppier. Much as you'd expect.

I've bought Eno stuff before on the basis of covers of his songs, namely Uilab (Stereolab offshoot) doing 'St Elmo's Fire' and Superpitcher doing 'Baby's on Fire.'
Trouble is, both times the covers have been 1000 times better than the originals. Any recommendations welcome.

If you like your pop a bit more leftfield and glam you can try 'Here Come The Warm Jets'. His most perfect pop song though is Backwater as I never tire saying. But if you liked neither St Elmo's Fire or Baby's On Fire, chances are you'll never warm to his works. Those two songs are pretty exemplatory of what Eno did on his 4 pop albums. Incidentally I've just listened to the new album and, while it's not as pop as I'd hoped, it's a nice mixture of ambient and folk songs, pretty similar in tone as the album Eno made with John Cale in the early 90s.

Remember that he produced U2 for many years. Everybody knows his voice FROM U2 - he did the vocals on the chrous of Lemon. Nice voice.
Didn't he also produce the upcoming Travis CD as well? I heard he made them switch instruments or something. That should be a kick in their lazy asses. I think that is a fall album.
