His new video Walking Shade is on Launchcast now. It's yet more hackneyed sub-Victorian gothic bollocks of the sort which didn't really set the world alight during the Smashing Pumpkins' twilight years. The song isn't bad but it just reeks of Machina, and I would be surprised if it wasn't written during those sessions. His Myspace page has another song you can listen to, Blank Age, and it just sounds like an Adore castoff. I don't think he's really trying any more - I absolutely loved Zwan and thought Mary Star Of The Sea was the best thing he'd put his name to since Mellon Collie, but so far everything about his solo career, including the video, just feels like a huge step back to the Smashing Pumpkins' lowest ebb. I'm really disappointed. I'll still buy the album when it comes out, but I'm not looking forward to it anywhere near as much as I ought to.

I can't take Billy Corgan seriously now after noticing his resemblance to Kif from 'Futurama'
I quite like the new song. But then I did like Machina...

Oh I am loving this song actually. I loved the electronica elements to songs like Appels + Oranjes, Pug, Raindrops + Sunshowers and the more industrial The Everlasting Gaze. Walking Shade perhaps doesn't quite go to where you think it is, but it is one of my favourite song of the year so far. The song is very Pumpkins, and I would prefer to see D'arcy again at some point (what the hell happened to her movie career?).

Last I head she was done for buying cocaine (again), and then she trained and qualified as either a masseuse or an acupuncturist (or possibly both) and set up her own practise. She runs a few antique shops as well, so I suppose the acting career has been put on the back burner for a while. She was amazing though, wasn't she?
I kind of like this song now, actually. I hope the whole album isn't like this though, it just sounds too Machina-ish for me, which was my least favourite Pumpkins album by a long way.

I really like his new songs, but then Adore is my favourite album ever and I loved Machina. I really want to see him on tour but I have exams on the days hes in London. That album, together with Hole's Celebrity Skin, kind of introduced me to 'alternative music' in a way. There is not a wasted moment on it. I actually really loved Machina as well. The Everlasting Gaze, Stand Inside Your Love, Raindrops + Sunshowers, Try, Try, Try, This Time, Wound, The Imploding Voice, With Every Light and The Age of Innocence are all glorious and epic. I guess what I love about their music is how dreamy it is. All I want to do when I listen to music is shut my eyes. She was gorgeous, wasn't she? I regard her as one of my all time icons. Was she not into photography as well? I guess she seems kinda settled with what she seems to be doing then. But I remember a picture of her surfacing with some director - she had a cowboy hat on. There was no cooler rock star than D'arcy - she was so mysterious, and it seems she's gonna remain that way.

it's genuinely the worst thing i've ever heard him (or them) do. i was like, 'is this the chorus?' 'is this?' 'is there a chorus?' it was all muddy and the same and oh-god-dreadful.
the video is nothing short of embarassing. it's like a pastiche.
it is saying something when alec empire releases a song with more of a tune than yours.

During her drug phase, I saw some pics of D'Arcy in which she appeared to have butchered her face with plastic surgery. I could be wrong, but it seemed pretty sad.
PS: Corgan is a twat. Check out stereogum this week
