I don't know much about them, and I'm not sure if I am just being sucked into the hype, but I feel possibly a bit tingly and hopeful. What do you think of them?

I've only heard one track once on Radio 2 the other day. I wasn't impressed but they sounded pleasent enough.

We must be a demographic penetration <insert joke here> because i feel the same way, even though I've not heard any of their music. How strange. EDIT: I just heard some stuff on their website. Hymn for Her: nice and gentle descaled Coldplay. Sad voiced and weary, Oooooh... Anima Sola: folky drone toned and piano unhappiness. It's like all the good stuff on Domino records and it makes me feel panda eyed. Yum. I seem to remember reading something about them doing a candle-lit gig in a church for Shelter but maybe I imagined it. Does anyone know? www.themagicnumbers.net/images/comingsoon_illust.gif [/img] "Drawing inspiration from many sources, singer songwriters (Cohen, Dylan), 60's harmony groups (Mamas & Papas, Lovin Spoonful), epic rock or such mavericks as David Axelrod. The band craft a sound which like Flaming Lips or Beck, is coming from everywhere but is uniquely theirs. "

I listened to the stuff on their site (really cute site isn't it?), and still don't know. Hmmm, am happy to give them a go tho', it made me think; something shimmery, beautiful vocal harmonies, a lightness.

I like all that winsome boy with an acoustic guitar and accompanying unwashed band thing. I'm also a sucker for any band that has family members in them:
The Osmonds. Hanson Partridge Family (pretended) Bee Gees Bros
er....

For brothers, sisters and guitars you could do a lot worse than Joy Zipper and The Fiery Furnaces. Back on topic, I've yet to hear the Magic Numbers on the radio but I've seen 'em live twice now and they are are wonderful. "Yum" is right, big smiles, big hair, beautiful songs.

Much as I'd like to, I can't bring myself to hate a band who cite David Axelrod as an influence.
Their music's a bit crap, though.

I love the chorus (reminds me a bit of Hal's acetastic last single) but not so much the rest of it.

I'm going to see them at The Truck in July.
They're quite cute, aren't they? Like a mini Mamas and Papas.

I've only heard their new release on the radio, I think the bass line is fairly monotonous as are the drums. There are not enough dynamics in the song although the harmonies and vocals are quite nice and I like the bridge.

They're great - the live performances I've seen have been awesome. The albums lovely, and 'Forever Lost' is just a perfect summer tune.............

My new favourite band. What an incredible album - especially Love Is A Game, Mornings Eleven and I See You, You See Me.
Now, to find someone to drag to the Edinburgh gig...

I heard all the hype before I heard any of their music. I also heard about the joint gig they did with Hal, whom I saw supporting Starsailor last tour around, and I really liked them. So I figured they'd be similar in sound. When I heard they were supporting Athlete on tour I was pretty excited, but not particularly impressed when I saw them. I can appreciate their talent, but they're just not my thing.

Athlete were good first time out, now they're just Coldplay with more annoying accents. "Yew got wayas!" The Magic Numbers, however, I like. The 60s thing works for me, and scarily I find one of them slightly attractive, but I was always weird like that...

Love Me Like You is nice but I just can't get into the rest of the album. I love the track they did on the Chemical Brothers album though. The report about them storming out of TOTP after the presenter cracked a joke about their weight put me off them too.
