Halls Soother's. Stat.
I quite like him, but all I've seen of him is adverts as opposed to a full-length promo video. It's a bit like when Damien Rice had adverts for O, and all you could hear was just a tiny bit of Cannonball. The advert does make me want to listen to more of James, but I'm not going to buy a whole album just because of that.
EDIT: I've just found out my significant other likes James Blunt. I'm baffled.

Where did this breed of whiny sub-James Fox idiots come from? Every advert break James Blunt, Keith Urban and Rob Thomas are being advertised as a calming MOR break from The Crazy Frog.
I really like the bit where he gets buried up to his neck in sand.

He's got an awful voice, really boring songs & even his album cover's shit.
James Blunt: rhyming slang for cunt, perhaps.

I like him. Please don't shoot me.
OK, so his voice belongs firmly in the love-it-or-shove-it category and the album is certainly nothing groundbreaking, but some of the melodies are lovely, and the simplicity of it is strangely appealing.
Rob Thomas, on the other hand, can piss right off. His is the worst album I've sat through in 2005 (I'm not counting Bobby Valentino's, because I couldn't bring myself to finish that).

I bought the album ages ago just cos I felt like buying something and I'd heard he was good. I haven't listened to it that much but I don't mind it. His voice can be a bit annoying but there are some nice songs on the album and the amusing lyrics at least make him more fun than Damien Rice etc.

I shudder every time I hear "My life is brilliant" in that horrible whiny/husky hybrid of a voice. Why does he remove clothing in is video? He just seems so... unneccessary.

His album track Tears & Rain, is amazingly similiar to A1's Caught In The Middle, which is no bad thing in my book anyway

Honestly, never has a name been more apt than Blunt. For that is what his music is, incredibly blunt and dull. I thought people like him shot themselves ala Kurt Cobain. He should get on with it. I really don't want to see his single climb to #1 because it looks as if that's where it could head.
* I'm a fan of the Audio Bullies song which is climbing too.

I don't care for his music though.

He comes from the David Sneddon school of lyric writing. Well I thought David Sneddon's lyrics on some of his (underrated) album tracks were super. I'm a bit of a lyrics geek and actually, if I had to count my favourite lyricists on one hand, he'd be there. From what I've heard of "You're Beautiful" the lyrics are quite cheesy and same old- same old, but sometimes if there's a nice lil tune behind it all, then it can shoot up to ace level. Which it seems to be doing at the moment.

He comes from the David Sneddon school of lyric writing. Really? I take that is meant to be a compliment. Perhaps I need to look beyond Blunt's cheesy, contrived image!! Or just maybe, people ought to try looking beyond the reality TV thing!! David Sneddon is a brilliant songwriter, very underrated artist IMO. The new stuff he has written for his band The Sham is amazing?

He is great. Some of the lyrics are cheesy but the album is superb. He's up there with Rice, Oberst and Gray imo. But then you'll probably only love it if you like moody slightly depressing music.

Was 'Wisemen' released as a single? My sister bought me his album for watching her kids and it seemed really familiar.

Oh no. Gray - okay, but I find him uber cheesey to be honest. Rice - perhaps. but, to compare him to Conor Oberst?! Or am I being blinded to the awesomeness of his lyrics by his dazzling pop sensibility? And surely it's difficult to level a comparison like that between someone who's produced record after record of fantasticly worded songs, to someone who's on album number one? I'm not saying you can't, just curious. (apologies if this sounds like a 12 year old "Lover I Don't Have To Love" loving " Oh my goodness Conor, ur so hot!" emo girl type post - because I am neither 12 years old, a girl, nor emo - whatever the hell that even is now.)

OK, conner is in a league of his own. I don't find Gray cheesy and Rice is up there with Oberst imo - the lyrics and arrangement are superb. I am slightly sceptical of Mr Blunt being whisked to LA to write with Guy Chambers et al though - but I am willing to believe he played a heavy weighting in the writing (call me gullable!). I feel that for a debut it is extremely good and I anticipate the sophomore eagerly.
Although they are not all at the same level, I bracket them all together. Lyrics challenging R.Ashcroft possibly.
That was random and incoherrent. Apologies!

Aha, I see your point. I guess it was a bit dozy of me to think you considered them all on level pegging.
I'd agree, they all have the fact that they have strong lyrics in common but I guess they're all very divergent artists and excelled in different ways.

he is dullsville USA! his lyrics are worse than nursery rhymes. i bought the cd but took it straight back. Beautiful is goddawful and totally m/o/r. if you like slightly depressing singer songwriters there are tonnes of infinitely better ones. you cant compare him to Damien Rice cos that guy has the tunes and decent lyrics, even if you dont actually like him.

There is a rash of bland males hitting the charts at the moment and I don't like it one bit. But Blunt isn't just bland, he's bloody annoying, horrible voice, crap lyrics, shite album, but its bland so it appeals to people.
