I love it, but I'd love it even more if a less twattish band performed it.

And so the Coldplay trolls begin.
I wonder if they're going to torture us with pretentious poetry full of self-loathing. It will make a change from the 411 fans.

If I hear one more primetime Radio One DJ saying how 'refreshingly simple and harkingly beautiful' this track is then proceed to play it, I will scream.
Thgis means you Murray.

Coldplay don't know their arse-of-a-song from their Elbow.

I have no doubt that some of coldplay's songs are quite good, but i simply cannot stand Chris Martin's droans. I actually cannot sit through a whole song. If coldplay had a female singer, they might do well.

Like it but it's not the best track on the alb. That would be 'Talk'.

Is the hauntingly slow song that radio one are comparing to John Lennon's 'imagine'?
If so I think it is a beautiful track ruined by awful vocals.

It's fine, but having listened to the album it's quite clear that Coldplay have no rhythmical variation in their songs. Each track is quite beautiful and they have a knack for building a simple refrain into an anthemic coda -- but, dear god, they could try syncopation or a different tempo in just one of the songs. Top marks for having bought a synth for this album, though.

I like this one - incl the vocals, esp the very straightforward one at the end, where he doesn't crak high notes, etc. Like the chorus of Chris's on the "tears stream down your face" part.
You have to ignore the fact he is a cock and just go with it. It's a pretty song.
(Agreed about the same-iness of the full record - years from now I HOPE Chris will say this was the one he overanalyzed. Stop trying to be U2 b/c it is not going to happen).

Not my favourite on the album either - although it's obviously their next single so that's why it's being pushed / played everywhere.

I cannot hear the opening lines of What If without thinking of the beginning of What You Waiting For.
Their music is occasionally pretty but they're just so dreary and tiresome.
And I HATE the terrifying spaz attacks Chris Martin gets when he performs- he's so obviously trying to look 'passionate' but just looks like he's having a fit, as perfectly displayed just now on TOTP.

Despite hearing this a few times on the radio I cannot remember anything much about it other than thinking "What a dull song. Are they really releasing this as a single?"

Coldplay? Yawn!!!! Watched a bit of Glastonbury on the Beeb last night!
New Order showed them how it should be done!! Even Keane were more interesting, and thats saying something!!

To be honest, I found New Order quite disappointing, but I've got a feeling that might just have been because the sound was dodgy. Ditto Bloc Party.
Coldplay though I thought did pretty well but what the hell was up with Chris Martin's bizzare punching the sky and prancing around? It looked like he should have had puppet strings coming out of him.

They only went and filmed the video for the song in Bolton during last night's gig. I was expecting this epic video that would blow everyone away, and it turns out that it'll have a lower budget than the next Girls Aloud video. Maybe Nicola stole all of Coldplay's video money...

I've turned against Coldplay in a big way. I was a massive fan of the last album but methinks they've become too full of themselves. For a start, what's with the new artwork? It portrays the music brilliantly as thats shit as well. I think Chris Martin caught something off Michael Jackson and now thinks far too much of himself. You can just hear it in the music and it makes me squirm. But its as if he tries to hide it and it comes out as a sort of holiness. A good band just went shit.

I've never been a massive fan of Coldplay as I find them really boring but I have decided this song is beautiful, especially after it was played on The OC. It gave it more meaning.

They have no excuse about having shit videos. They are making so much money. How rude.
It seems that even the genius Mark Romanek has been leeched of all talent by Chris et all in their video. Boo to them. I mean THIS VIDEO WILL BE LIKE CLOCKS WONT IT.I.E SHIT.

I agree that Coldplay are overrated, however, I do really like them. And in that I mean that I am a fan, and I enjoyed seeing them live, but I don't understand where all this "best/second best band in the world" lark comes from. I do like Fix You though, but that's maybe because the end of the video, when the entire crowd is singing along, gives me shivers. I don't know. This was probably a useless message. I'll go crawl back into my hole now.

Fix You is a great song, and the album has grown on me considerably - one has to give it a chance. Speed of Sound is by far the worst track, and this is better than A Rush... in some ways. You have to hand it to them that they really pull off performance videos.

I think the chorus sounds a bit like a Christmas carol, but I find the whole thing really painful to listen to. It's a perfectly nice song, but it's ruined by the voice doing the singing. He is perfectly capable of singing without wailing like a pained banshee (he demonstrates this ability on several early tracks) so why does he insist on maintaining this ridiculous affectation?

I think it's a gorgeous song, and much prefer it to the speed of sound, but still prefer the last album.
