If anyone beats Elbow's 'Leaders Of The Free World' it'll have to be a fucking awesome album.
The same applies to song of the year. Anything better than Station Approach will shock me to my very foundation

To judge it without even hearing it (I know its bad i'm sorry) but I can't even contemplate how ELBOW could come anywhere near making the record of the year. I don't even remember their old stuff, it can't have been very special. The only thing I remember is their cover of Independant Women. Anyway what do I know. I like Geri

Elbow might make the Insomniacs record of the year.

I like Elbow very much, their 'Cast Of Thousands' LP was in my top ten albums of the year. I'm looking forward to hearing their new material.

I saw them supporting PJ Harvey a couple of years ago and they were shite. Have they suddenly started to write interesting songs then?

I really can't wait for the album. Count me in on that sentiment. I've not seen them do their thing live as yet, but feel the time might be right to correct that oversite.

Elbow, to me, share some parallels with Interpol, quite accessible and quite good first album, a grower but ultimately fantastic second set which some gave up on before they got into it.
If the new single is anything to go by, I think the new album will be an interesting listen

Well, I was dubious when I read this thread a few days ago.
Having heard the album I can see that it's not *complete* hyperbole. It is a fantastic record and deserving of praise. Perhaps not my personal favourite of the year but it blows X&Y out of the water as a much better "album number three".
It's a nice "easy" listen whilst also giving you a lot to think about. It has some great lyrics.
Highlight for me is the title track and "Station Approach" as you mention is also very good.

Now I've heard the whole thing twice and I already think it'll be one of the albums of the year. I won't say more because I'vse stopped listening to it because I want to keep a somewhat fresh ear for when I'll be able to hear the real thing on CD with a perfect sound. Guy Garvey sounds more and more like Peter Gabriel.

I think the album of the year so far is Imogen Heap's Speak For Yourself, but I have not heard any new Elbow.
