So are there any fans of the 'harder' electronica sounds?
Talking Hard Trance, Trance, Techno of all forms, Hardstyle (*shudder*) etc etc?
Was just curious to see - my tastes vary from many genre's, and the hard trance, trance and techno (Detroit techno in particular) are up there as personal faves.
Artists like Marzz, Marco Bailey, Marco V, Dave Clarke, Scot Project etc etc...
Anyone?

Nah, don't really go in for the bosh, bosh, bosh. "Nu-skool Breaks" is as hard as I go these days.

Nah, not even in a club when I'm drunk. I like to be able to dance for an hour at a time, and it's too tiring to dance to techno for more than 10 minutes. It also makes you look really unattractive and sweaty.

Don't like hard trance. More into progressive dance eg. Sasha.

I'm not sure if purists would class it as proper 'rave', but I still really enjoy all that cheesy early 90s 'commercial rave'.
SL2, Altern 8, Prodigy-When-They-Had-A-'The', Liquid, Acen, Utah (U-U-U!") Saints, Gat Decor, Bizarre Inc... some brilliant pop music there.

Wasn't cheesy at the time, in fact it's not that cheesy now either. Even the highly stupid stuff like Sesame's Treet is highly listenable today...
...and who could forget Shut Up and Dance's attack on the top 10 with Raving I'm Raving which simultaneously made their name (short term) and killed them (long term) due to not clearing a sample from Marc "sense of humour bypass" Cohn.

Oh yes, all that stuff was considered cheesy; dance music is probably more up its' arse than any other genre. Personally I loved it - in one of The Prodigy's videos (I think it was Fire) Liam chucks a copy of Mixmag on the fire which has the cover story <The Prodigy: the act that killed rave> because of Charly.

I love the really old stuff, when rave was just in its infancy. It's so raw and punk almost. My favourite band from that period (bar The Prodigy of course) is The Lords Of Acid. Does anyone know of them? I Sit On Acid is a brilliant pop record and I Must Increase My Bust is hilariously funny.
What's not to like? Check them out.

www.souljazzrecords.co.uk/images/231/ACIDVOL1-L.jpg [/img] Rave/nosebleed kind of emerged like the bastard offspring of acid house; mainly as the drugs used began to get more amphetaminey rather than MD(M)A based. It was all rather abrasive and thrilling in a low rent kind of way, and possibly paved the way for the underground garage/grime/2 step/breakbeat scenes that came afterwards. FYI: Soul Jazz records have recently released an interesting Acid House retrospective, 'This is Acid', which does manage to capture the disorienting and revolutionary experience of hearing the Roland acid box going mental in a club environment for the first time. The first time I heard Phuture will stay with me forever, it was really unlike anything else *EVER*. More info here: www.souljazzrecords.co.uk/release.php?ReleaseId=231&NavId=1&Section=2

Aye - Lords of Acid was a weird one cos they never made it in the UK, yet Praga Khan (the same bloke behind LOA) did to some degree...and Digital Orgasm (same people again)
Picked up their Greatest Tits (heh) album in the States (where they DID make it) last year.
Darling come here......

The Greatest Tits is SO wonderful. I'm listening to it right now and thinking fondly of you Richie. As a potential new pal of course.

Heh heh...I'll be down in Glasgow this thursday. DJing at Club GYBO at the Barfly. www.gybo-v3.co.uk/clubgyvery good.php (weird filter...change very good to bo then) Might see you there? Must look out a Lords of Acid mash-up if you do (if I can find one!)

I would love to see The Barfly unfortunately I'm arch enemies with someone that works there who would probably try and slit my throat for the years of sheer hell I put him through. You're a DJ, Richie? Lucky git! My brother spins the decks but all he does is that crap Rhythm Is A Dancer thing that ruins the original song.

Does anyone remember the rather remarkable Kid Paul Remix of Moby's "Move", from about 93-94? I heard it at an "old school rave re-union" thing a few weeks back in Melbourne and it harked back some sensational memories.
The 'commercial rave' thing - remember James Brown Is Dead? The Shamen's "LSI" (more pop but nonetheless, a song which still sounds amazing out). Also "Mad cows on acid", "Hummanoid" as rave classics, the list goes on really... (even though Hold That Sucker Down is technically a house track, its still an amazing warehouse-party choon. Rollo is one of the greatest dance producers of our time, truly.)
I have heard a few of "The Lords Of Acid"s tracks Dr Bastard, what I've heard was great. Might have to follow up and get this greatest tits you speak of.

The Builds Like a Scyscraper Mix is definitely more ravey than House. Great track, as is James Brown is Dead. I played my tape of that (Reactivate Volume 3) so much the tape broke. Grrr. I need to find that on CD somewhere.

My favorite ever Rollo track is Rollo Goes Mystic - Love, love, love here I come. Brilliant choice. I also think "It will make me crazy" by Felix was another of his (and Red Jerry's) finest productions. I could go on all day about Rollo, I get very excited talking about the work he's done.

Just bought "Greatest Tits" last week.
Brilliant.
"Sit on my Acid" is a bloody unreal classic.
