The War Child Album . Has this been out for a while?
I bought it today and hadn't heard about it at all (because I'm that uncool). I bought because it's a charity album and it looked interesting.
Yes it has some dreary bands on them that make me depressed (Radiohead, Manics) but it also has some great new songs on it from Kaisers (covering 'Heard It Through The Grapevine'), Bloc Party, Hard-Fi and Maximo Park stonkers from Mylo and Go! Team too. And!! A really quite excellent song from Razorlight!
The Babyshambles song 'Bollywood To Battersea' seems pointless, but is really quite magnificent. "I'm sure Doherty really cares about the poor in the third world..." etc.
Are all of these songs cover versions? Because cover versions are soooo uncool, it's just not 'real' etc.

To my knowledge, only Kaiser Chiefs, George & Antony and <shudder> Keane </shudder> are performing cover versions. Every other track is an original composition. Every song was recorded on the same day, and put on the Warchild website to download the following day. There's a few songs left off the CD that wouldn't fit, but they should be coming out as a single soon.
I've only listened to it the once. I bought it simply for the good cause, the fact that some of my current favourite bands on there just helped. Alhough I didn't apply that theory to Band Aid 20. I'm only human.

Some of it does have a whiff of "will this do?" about it, but I was pleasantly surprised by Coldplay and Razorlight. Not so keen on Bloc Party, and I was a bit disappointed by Maximo Park, too. Considering that all these songs were recorded in a day, the overall standard of the album is really very high.

It only came out a couple of weeks ago.
I was a bit disappointed with it. It has loads of bands on that I like - I was wetting myself to hear the Belle & Sebastian track - but I found it to be really tiresome and have only listened to it a couple of times.
Still, it's all for charity, I suppose.

The Belle and Sebastian track was actually left off the CD version of the album as they ran out of space - Coldplay and Babyshambles added themselves to the line up at the last minute and pretty much squeezed them out!!
I was planning on downloading B&S seperately, but you've just made me a little less keen unfortunately...
The Zutons track suffered the same fate, but I was rather pleased about that - call it revenge for the 'gays going to Glasto' comment!!!

Was it really? I'm glad I was too lazy to go into a shop and buy it, I opted to buy it from iTunes and Belle & Sebastian are included on there. At least they weren't completely shunned.
