Bought the new album Takk and am loving it so far, specially track 3 with the piano in it - amazing, like totally glacial and cinematic (!).
anyone else like em?

It's a wonderful album, such beautiful, uplifting music - as you say, track 3 (Hoppipola) is the stand-out.
I've only recently got into them, but it definitely feels like this is their most accessible album yet.

i bought one of the previous albums off the recomendation of a friend and liked it a lot - although it does take repeated listening. Im looking 4ward to hearing the new one as Ive heard also its more accessible.

They are one of my favourite bands and "Takk" is well worth getting. Track 3 is good but my favourite is track 5 "Hufupukar". Ive got "Ágætis Byrjun" as well but I think their best album is the untitled one ( ).

.... I think their best album is the untitled one ( ). I do too, although that seems to be a minority opinion. Takk is great of course, although it also feels like a step towards the mainstream. They were transcendent when they debuted Takk live at Somerset House this summer.

I'd like to share in the 'Takk is a v.good album' lovin. I particularly love the radio-friendlyness of 'Hoppipolla', which gives me goose bumps everytime I hear it. The albums almost good enough to make up for the shitfest that was 'Von'.
I said almost....

You do realise that "Von" is actually their first album?
To be fair, "Von" is inessential to most casual followers, but it's only fair to put it in context.

I've just bought Takk and like what I've heard so far. It probably needs a few more listens before I upgrade it to the "love it" category, but I quite like to be made to work at something.

You do realise that "Von" is actually their first album? I knew it was an early album but not their first, but it was only released outside of Iceland in 2004, as such it's their most recent album I've heard besides Takk. I'm not a big Sigur fan but Von really is shit and I'm baffled why they bothered releasing it.

Von is a real grower. Definitely not an album to start with if you are new to them but I found that when I returned to it after listening to Ágætis Byrjun and Untitled it sounded a lot better.

I got Von when in America to see if they were actually any good.
Some songs are just blank (?), just silent. And some of it is noise. A minor proportion of it is mildly atmospheric but ultimately pointless.
Did I pick a bad album to start with?
