www.silvianight.comIt seems this forum has somehow managed to overlook the complete and utter fabulousness of Silvia Night, this years entrant from Iceland, and that will quite simply WILL NOT DO CLICK HERE : www.eurovision.tv/english/video_frameset.htm?currentpage=http://www.eurovision.tv/english/start_video.htmThen click on the Iceland video, and watch it in its full technicolour glory! I think she changes costume at least 20 times Forget that Carola rubbish, if she fails to qualify I will be most upset...More so than when Agurbash failed last year. I think shes absolutely astounding, I'm making it my mission to inform as many people as I possibly can about her VOTE FOR YOUR HERO!

I love the demented old bag, and am proud that the word "f***ing" has made it onto the official CD without a PA sticker!

Did anyone else read the Eurovision preview in The Observer on Sunday? They were slightly less than flattering about Silvia's song... Full article here (click)

Silvia Night's 'personality' reminds me of Grynet, who hosted Andra Chansen in Melodifestivalen last year. Anyone remember her?
Anyway I love the whole Silvia concept! I hope there will some funny interviews with her in Athens.

Oh and I also see that Silvia has finally been reprimanded by the EBU for the swearing in her song! Bit late considering it's already on the CD. Apparently she responded by saying 'I'll fucking say what I fucking like'.

I think, of anyone, Silvia could be this year's Selma. The fans might love it, but we've had time to 'get' it. Not sure it'll be as instant on 'the night'.

Did anyone else read the Eurovision preview in The Observer on Sunday? What a fucking load of fucking tosh. Yes, all 120 million. Did this journalist go ask all 120 million people before assuming to know what they think. I think I'd punch her if I ever met her, what stupid lazy journalism. A

Yes, the lovely Miss Moja Stickla, singing her song about "My Severina" no doubt. This journalist is clearly an imbecile in every way.
No. Their biggest problem is that their song doesn't even qualify to be called the shit on Miss Moja Stickla's stiletto. Now that would have been a song idea for her...
Agreed: what a fucking load of fucking tosh.
The idiot may have been right about Germany though...

I could get over the mistakes (it's the Obsrever which is the Gruaniad on the weekends, after all) but it's the tone that these mistakes make. Not just a mistake, more a "I can't be bothered checking as it's only Eurovision" tone.

But that's why there're mistakes. Because they couldn't be bothered.
And I like the Observer too. Am not pleased.

Oh come on, this is a light-hearted feature which is clearly a personal view, taking umbrage at her comments is in danger of taking it too seriously - I thought one of the good things aboout Eurovision fans here rather than the scarier places is that we can manage to both love it and be aware of the campy ridiculousness of it, and I think the article does that quite well for something aimed at a lay audience.
If you read the article, she's actually being relatively flattering overall for a UK writer - saying there's a lot more modernity and variety in the contest, and even 'ground-breaking creativity'.
When did we get so po-faced here?

You are right of course. Let's face it, if you hated people taking the piss out of Eurovision you wouldn't cope. It's just in this case it is rather lazy. She has every right not to like it, but it's not a very consistent read. Her tone is rather endearing, but I think it bothers me because I know so many people who will read that and take it as Gospel rather than actually watching and deciding it's shit for themselves. In which case I guess I'm actually annoyed at my friends.
D'oh!

You're right, yes.
Blame it on post-holiday-back-at-work anger. I don't think I will punch her.
Maybe a suspicious look, as she's giving a compliment but being back-handed about it.

A Personally, I'd like to kick her dead. Those sort of people really piss me off. Poeple who make out they know about Eurovision, but completely don't get it. It's like all these Eurovision parties my friends are organising. I can tell what it will be like, they'll take the whole thing as a joke. We all know that a lot of countries take it quite seriously. And then the songs she choses to review are odd. She says "the cream of the crop", but then goes to choose songs with quite long odds. If only there were more Paddy O'Connells.

She's chosen the songs that are most interesting from a journalistic point of view - Finland doing Hard Rock, Germany doing country, Iceland entering a made-up TV character, and Daz (can't work out quite why Israel was in there though). The point of the article isn't supposed to be be a comprehensive preview for fans - it's actually showing how much the contest has changed.
Focusing on Carola and Kate would have just confirmed the stereotypes everyone has about the contest anyway. And would have made for quite a dull article.
Can you not see it's taking the piss in quite an affectionate way?

God, that article's just reminded me why I don't want to get into journalism. All articles are far too try-hard and packed full of thouroughly shit cliches, no matter what they're on about. The bit about Lordi is just a load of typical unknowing, pretentious crap. It's like she thought, "How many crap goth references can I squeeze into a paragraph?" And that she says about Silvia's song is just her comparing it to what she considers "crap" and then adding a couple of non-sensical similes. Hardly innovative.
