OK,
anyone who's read my posts on this board will know I'm a big Carola fan... but I have to say, Carola's performance tonight was in a totally different league to most of the performers on that stage. Truly brilliant. The dress was over the top in a good way and her entire performance just made everyone else look like a total amateur. She really is a world class singer and I truly believe she could go all the way on Saturday.

She was great and her performance was great and the style worked for her.
While probably being the most noticeable, some others were on par, notably Bryan Kennedy who managed to sell that dog of a song to enough people to get it into the final. It could even end up with 6th place like Eamonn utter-Tool with "Millenium of sentimental shite" in 2000. And if it does it will be down to him and NOT the song.
Similarly Carola is better than Invincible. If she had sung "Looking through my window" that would be in the final now. Having said that, if Sandra had not been after Carola I think she would be in the final too.
Similarly Tina Karol used her charms well to drag that song out of the semis. She clearly isn't in Carola's league, but she did MUCH better than was expected.
I would be very pleased if Carola won the whole thing, but am waiting to see how Texas Lightning and Fabrizio Faniello come across on Saturday night. I think Germany could steal it if the performance is good enough.

anyone who's read my posts on this board will know I'm a big Carola fan... and I've made it clear in the past that I'm very much not a fan, of her or the song. But last night her performance was stunning, she really sang like a potential winner, and I think she must have a good chance in the final now. Everything about her performance made Kate Ryan look amateurish, and I much preferred her beforehand. Of course, this being the internet I'm surprised no conspiracy theorists have popped up yet to suggest the evil queen of schlager had somehow managed to sabotage the other poppier songs' chances.

Oh, and I agree with you about Kate. It was a fabulous song but she didn't sell it very well. She looked like she was trying to remember the next dance move and I think her vocal suffered as a result. She'd have benefited from leaving the performance to the dancers and just concentrating on her vocal. It's a shame. Je T'adore should have made it to the final. In all fairness, I do actually think Kate's performance was good enough but obviously Europe disagreed. A lot of my favourites didn't make it through, but Carola, Bryan Kennedy and Tina Karol were undoubtedly the best performers of the night so justice was done in a way.

I was in the pub watching it with Adrian, and I thought she was good enough at the time, but I watched her performance again on Sky+ when I got in and realised how weak it looked.

One thing that struck me about Kate was to STOP moving. She was one way, then the other, then the other, then the other. Backwards, forwards, backwards, forwards. And in all this movement, she forgot the most important move of them all!
I'm really surprised at Brian Kennedy's reception. I was all set to support it (in a patriotic fashion) but I thought it was pretty rubbish in comparison to how it could have been.

Upstairs in Comptons, it was quite packed and we had an irritating drag queen speaking over Paddy, which was annoying.
But the atmosphere was great, biggest cheers of the night for Belgium, Sweden, Finland and Iceland.
The atmosphere in the Harcourt must have been great!

I think this was part of the problem for Silvia. She just seemed to run aimlessly about the stage squealing like a cat being raped. Someone has posted the recaps on YouTube, and even in those few seconds Carola stands out. When I watched the first rehearsal I started off thinking the performance was boring but she built it up so steadily, from calm and staid, to giving it energy and then the tightly choreographed bit before the channelling-Jaysus-ad-libs. She really couldn't have done it better.

My boyfriend's flatmate watched bits this morning with me. During Carola, he was incredulous and asked "WHAT is she doing?"
Channeling God, obviously.

Here's an interview she did afterwards:
"It's so great to be here again. I want to thank the host Sakis. It was a marvellous programme. I'm looking forward to Saturday, but now I'm just going to bed to rest my voice. God bless you all! You are all invincible! It is a very natural relationship. Jesus became my saviour at thirteen. I believe in Christmas and Easter! Can it be any simpler? What a gift! There is a passion in my heart. Saturday is my name day, Carola. The name means 'free woman' and 'song of joy' in Latin."
Another quote:
"I'm proud to be a gay diva!"
Hahahaha.

It's also odd that she hasn't been posting here for the week of the rehearsals. Her press conferences are sounding rather similar to her posts. Perhaps it was the real Carola... ha ha

I'm having a wonderful vision of Carola arriving in Athens, wind machine in tow. She realises that she'll have to share so she runs around to find acts to use the wind machine.
"Anzej, darling, baby! I know you love my performance. Would you like some wind? A bit o' wind? Go down a treat in Malmo, you'll get the twelve from us, baby! It'll add a whole new spiritual dimension to your presentation, yeah, yeah."
All the while cackling that, "Nobody uses the wind like Carola!"
(sorry)
