I heard this in a club the other day and realised I really really want it. What's the definitive version of it? I know there are various covers and remixes of it. I think the original might be too slow, I want a dancey-ish version of it.

Baccara did it originally but i prefer the Sophie EB's version. Goldfrapp's version is great too-but very dark and moody to i woudnt say danceable

The Baccara original is actually fast enough. Sophie's isn't that much more BPM-ish.
I imagine Almighty have done a remix of it at some point over the last ten years.

There is a new mix, just called "Yes sir I can boogie 2005 (extended mix)" which I have. Very housey piano driven backing. Campest thing I have heard in years but also incredibly disco swirling round the sitting room.
added: The version is by Baccara, not sure if it's new vocals though, heard they are doing the rounds.

Try the version on the Kinky Boots soundtrack, it's hilarious.

Dana International did herself proud with her version. Very breathy, the yes sir, no sir repeats speed up to good effect, but it retains a mild tempo, merely bubbling under. But ... Whether it has been released or not, cheap as press-on nails, there is a 2005 re-release easily found online.

I love both Baccara and Sophie's versions. Sophie's is basically an updated version of the original with her trademark vocals, I wasn't all that fussed with Goldfrapp's version, but then I never have been their biggest fan for some reason...
I loved Baccara's follow up "Sorry I'm A Lady" and their Eurovision attempt "Parlez Vous Francais?" which is so similar to "Yes Sir" that the writers would have been sued for plagarism if they hadn't been the same!
I'v e always thought of getting Baccara's GH but I don't know any more of their songs...

I must admit Sophie's is probably my favourite.
The whole tongue in cheekiness of it all, in the way it was a reaction to those who went on about Sophie's inability to dance and those who critisised her for just standing on the spot when performing just makes it sweeter.
There nothing like a well thought-out cover version.

Wasn't Sophie's version originally recorded around the time of the "Read My Lips" album but didn't make the cut? Shame it couldn't even appear on as a hidden track like "Physical" did on "Shoot From The Hip"...

Shame it couldn't even appear on as a hidden track like "Physical" did on "Shoot From The Hip"... I'm not sure it was actually recorded for the album but she did record it around that time and performed it at G.A.Y and was rumoured to be the intended b-side to Murder On The Dancefloor but I think the studio version was never completed and sat on the shelf until the Shoot From The Hip time when it was dusted off and finished.

I loved Baccara's follow up "Sorry I'm A Lady" .... ...which Rachel Stevens (along with possibly French and Saunders) should cover for the next Comic Relief single!

Wouldn't it make more 'comedic sense' for Rachel to do "Sorry I'm A Lady" with David Walliams as Emily Howard?
In that it would be funny for the first three listens or so.

I'v e always thought of getting Baccara's GH but I don't know any more of their songs... They have a song called The Devil (the devil, the devil) sent you to Lorado (lorado, lorado). It has comedy gun shots. It's brilliant. A

I'm not sure why but I actually have 3 Baccarra albums on vinyl. Haven't played them for years but if I remember correctly one has a 10 minute disco version of Light My Fire on it. Genius!!! Actually here they are........... www.czejarek.pl/bac03a1.htm

I thought the truly postmodern thing would actually be for a lady cover this song? One who is a lady. Like Sophie Ellis-Bextor!
