I'm looking for a name of a song and the group. I don't even know the name of the group... It was on a Smash Hit (Summer?) (double?) kassette I got in a Smash Hits magazine in the summer of 1996. I've searched for it but I got no matching result.
The song is performed by a "Boyz II Men"-like group. I think it can be categorized as soul/r'n b. It's not really slow. The rythm sounds a bit like Fugees' "Killing me softly".
The chorus goes like "Your love has gone away, *****, wish you were back in my life to stay". In the first verse they sing something like "...you said that you'd never break my heart, but you left me here alone".
I think maybe Boo Radleys song "Wake up Boo" was on it as well. I'm also 99% sure that PJ & Duncan had a song on it, too.

I know it! It's Ivan Matias! It's the same tape that had Michelle Gayle's Morales mix or Freedom and some Benz track? Ivan Matias was supposed to be the next big thing for First Avenue after Eternal, Dana and Louise but his So good to come home to/I've had enough single flopped - he was part of Organized Noize who did the brilliant theme song to Set It Off the hilarious chick movie that has Latifah in major lezza action. He has written stuff for En Vogue! www.discogs.com/artist/Ivan+Matias

I love that song too! I've been after a CD copy for years. That tape was a good one- it had Deborah Cox's "Who Do You Love" on it too...

I've tried to find the right Smash Hits kassette (and CD) but when I search on Amazon and Ebay I only find other tapes. I also can't seem to find any of his music in any stores as well (sorry for my bad english). Anyways, I've now fortunately come a huge step further

Thing is the song on the Smash Hits tape isn't So good to come home to or I've had enough, so what was it? Maybe it was one of those after all or a 3rd track, that was going to be on his album?

Manages a Gay rapper. I still can't remember the title of the song we are searching for here and the Sweetest Hangover tracklist is not helping!

I got this tape out just now from my old cassette collection. It's called "12 Slammin' Bangin' Hits" and the song in question is called "Your Love Has Gone away", and a great song it is too! The tape features "Where's The Party?" by Benz as well, along with the Classic Expo mix of Michelle Gayle's "Freedom". No PJ & Duncan or Boo Radleys though.
It seems the song isn't on "Sweetest Hangover" so you'll have a hard time tracking it down!

Does it have a Smash Hits logo on it? Well, maybe I was wrong on the PJ & Duncan and Boo Radleys-tune, but the song "Where's The Party" by Benz was definetly on it! Now that I know the name of the song I can search further, but as you say it's not going to be easy. It's so typical that I can't get this song out of my head when it's impossible to find it.

Yep it's got a very prominent Smash Hits logo on it. It's a blue tape with clouds in the background. The box features pictures of Sleeper, Benz, TLC, Michelle Gayle, SWV and Scatman John. It came out in May 1996. I don't know if this is of any use to you but good luck in finding a copy!
I'll have to stick the tape on later and reminisce on how great a song it was/is.

I found it! The only place I got a match was here: www.musicstack.com/search/smash+hitsIt's not listed anymore because it's sold (to me ) It cost me 11.33 USD + shipping to Norway but it's definetly worth it. Unfortunately all my loving, old tapes is missing after I moved out from home. I wish I'd taken better care of them Thanks for all the help!

I have that cassette too, somewhere, as I never throw anything music-related - I got stacks of Smash Hits, 7" and 12" and all my old cassettes at my parents, even the Glenn Medeiros one! I just don't have the technology needed to turn a cassette into an mp3.

You don't need much to do so really. I use this equipment to do it: - My laptop - A walkman - An audiocable with minijack plug in both ends I connect the cable in the headphone output on the walkman and attach the other end into the mic/audio input on my computer. Then I use the free program "Audacity" to record the song and remove any noise that might be on the cassette. Then I save the "project" as an mp3-file. Works like a charm I actually bought an old used yellow Sony Sport Walkman on an auction for purposes like this some months ago.

Will try this! I suppose you can do the same with vinyl and a record player. Sucks, my old vinyl player now plays eveything a bit slowed down.

Yepp, that will do it. Too bad about the vinyl player, though. Well, Audacity can ajust the speed as well, so that's maybe an option

If I get the hang of this, I will start visiting my parents a lot more, ha ha... All those 80's 7" 12" vinyl albums and casettes - ok most of the albums I have re-bought on cd but the singles are all hard to find. I even bought a Five Star 12" - Someone's In Love the US 12" too, today!

The Sleeper song was "What Do I Do Now?", a top notch tune!

Yay! I found his album up for dl in a blog! Getting it as we speak - no Your Love Has Gone away apparently but nevertheless bound to be good - His co-writes are ace and First Avenue did great albums. Yes even the Dana Dawson and Thunderbugs ones.
