One of my favourite things to do in the summer is sit outside and listen to all those bouncy, sunny pop songs that sound a bit reggae-influenced, because there really is nothing that sounds more like summer to me. Here are some examples of what I mean:
Blue Lagoon - all songs Ace of Base - most songs BWO - Rhythm Divine Spice Girls - Walk Of Life E-Type - I Just Wanna Be With You Steps - Happy Go Lucky, Buzz, Paradise Lost Natasha Thomas - Why Amy Diamond - Don't Lose Any Sleep Over You Anna S - I Need You
There are more, but I've forgotten. So I have 2 questions:
1. What should this music be called? Because it really doesn't sound that much like reggae, but if you know a few of the songs mentioned above you'll know the sound they have in common, so it needs a name! Maybe it has one already?
2. What other good songs are there that sound like this? I always need more!

Call it Walk of Life.
I adore that spice girls song. Even tho Spiceworld only had 1 proper b side (spice invaders aint a song and outer spice girls is too cheesetastic), it should have been on the album. I think they knew that since they performed it on tour. IT ROCKS!!!

Perhaps, you can call it 'Ska-pop'.
"Ska is a form of Jamaican music which began in the early 1960s. Combining elements of traditional mento and calypso with an American jazz and rhythm and blues sound, it was a precursor in Jamaica to rocksteady and later reggae."
(Source wikipedia)
Other good songs that sound like this? I would say a lot of No Doubt's 'Rock Steady' and you might also like a very brilliant but underrated band called Sublime. If you can get hold of 'Santeria' and 'Date Rape' you will be very pleased with yourself. I would classify them as 'ska-pop' but I'm sure their fans would have something to say about that.

Rock Steady is indeed a great album and mixes reggae and pop as well as other styles, but I wouldn't say it sounds like the songs I referred to in my first post. They are generally lighter and not at all authentic, no real reggae/ska fan would like them. Jessica

I always refer to it as 'Lovers Pop', as in 'Lovers Rock'.
