God it's just terrible. Like Gogo's but completely tuneless. BLECH. It's the kind of thing you hear and think, "Oh it's a good idea and I see what she was going for" but it doesn't work.. I suspect it will be proclaimed genius - so for anyone who thinks that, I beg you to get the CD of Beauty and The Beat by the Gogo's and listen to the real thing.

Considering this is the girl that brought us the genius of 'Anniemal' I'm completely disappointed she's obviously been getting the tube to Camden a bit too much recently.
I mean, it's alright. Just strangely short and feels like more of a starter than a main course, so to speak.

Someone obviously lost her phone with Mr X's mobile number on it.
I really can't understand some popstars sometimes.

'Beauty and The Beat' is one of my favourite albums of all time. The Go-Go's piss on The Bangles hard. I never got in to the Anniemal album; I love Chewing Gum and I like Me Plus One; however, the rest never grew on me. x

Annie is good - esp Heartbeat - but I don't really understand why she was the annointed one by US indie scenesters vs any other pop female last year. Robyn is better IMO, esp her most recent CD. It's FAR more witty and genrejumping.

It's not THAT bad....it's just not THAT good either. Is it really her new single? I mean it's an alright little tune but it's so by the numbers, it's shocking..
Like mentioned it sounds like sub-standard Go Go's. Even their 25 year old production sounds more sophisticated and up to date.

I can't find it so I guess they took it off, but does anyone know which version it was. The track listing for the single probably is (from seeing the cover): Timo Remix Richard X Remix Junior Sanchez Remix Weird Science A small color cover of it is here: A larger (but B&W) cover is here: I'm going to e-mail Dim Mak Records for a larger version of the cover in color and a track listing.

It's FAR more witty and genrejumping. I think it's the fact that she's also a DJ that the indie crowd likes (for the life of me I don't know why though). It's the same here in Canada. Rachel's album was better than Annniemal (yes it was!). x

I haven't heard the Go-Gos song you're comparing it too, but I like it. It's definately unexpected but it's fun and really dancefloor friendly.

She is no longer listed as being on 679 Recordings's roster. Has she been dropped or has she decided to leave?

I was soooo disappointed when I heard this. It's very very bad.
And seeing that cover makes me even sadder, because it really seems it's going to be a single.

It does grow on you after a few listens but doesn't surpass anything on Anniemal.

I actually rather like it, although as a HUGE Annie fan I am a bit biased. It isn't anything like nearly as good as any of the Anniemal material. It definitely shows that this is a song she wrote when she was 15.

It's interesting that this is a Richard X track too.
"Crush" is on his website as one of his productions. (www.blackmelody.com)

I don't know what everyone's on about, this is absolutely brilliant. I cannot wait for the new album now, but I seriously doubt that it'll be a record filled with songs that sound identical to "Crush".
Wonder if she'll perform it next month when she does her live shows in Australia?

I get what she's trying to do. It's very 'new wave' and with everyone doing electropop (of the very obvious kind) it's nice to see Annie (the future of pop) doing something a little different.
A Richard X production? I swear I wouldn't have guessed that if I hadn't read it here first.
And XoLondon, I love you too!

'Lust To Love' is a fab song. In fact 'Beauty and The Beat' (which is one of the best album titles EVER) is good from beginning to end. Although a lyric sheet would've been nice. x
