Is it just me or could Beverley Knight's greatest hits have possibly saved her career for now? Things weren't looking good before but the album has hung around the top 10/15 for a few weeks now and will probably continue to with the Take That tour. And she's announced a tour of her own for later in the year after only originally doing a couple of dates this month.
I hope she's turned things around. Anyone know how many albums she's shifted so far with Voice?

I really must remember to buy it. I damn well hope she's safe. How anyone as ace as Bev could be at risk is a sad state of affairs. According to a list on Haven - she has sold 110,000

I don't know. But I'm surprised that her greatest hits album is doing OK. Don't get me wrong, I like her a lot, but I'm surprised at how well it's doing considering she hasn't had that many hit singles or albums.

I was a bit sceptical but I'm delighted that it seems to have done the biz. It's a great album by the way for anyone who hasn't got it yet.

My sister has suddenly found a new respect for her just as my respect is dying. Seeing her duetting with that moron off the telly just killed it for me. Sorry. I'm a snob that way.

She's definitely been saved. I was fully expecting her to get dropped after the greatest hits - it was just put out to try and get a bit of cash. Even if it had sold reasonably well, I think she would have parted ways with EMI. But cos the album has done so well, EMI will release a new studio album with them! Hoorah!

The hits collection could have gone either way, but it seems she's finding a new audience. While I've liked a few tracks of hers, I make no secret of the fact I find a lot of her material bland. What I am pleased about though, is that there is a female solo artist who's actually flogging some albums. They're getting rarer by the day.
Let's hope she capitalises on this and, if she is given a reprieve, comes back with something a bit more 'mint choc chip' than the 'vanilla' of her career so far.

Those "nearly hits by a credible act" greatest hits always do well - see Faithless, Basement Jaxx, Alison Moyet, Lionel Richie etc.

yep, its become the high point of beverlys career, and puts her in good stead for her future releases. its hoped that dannii minogue can have the same result with her new greatest hits.

I thought Bev was with Parlophone, not EMI? Or are they part of EMI. I respect Parlophone for the way they handle their artists, and they don't seem to drop them if the albums do not sell. Thats why I am so glad Siobhan Donaghy is now with them!! Can't wait for her new album!

The Nicky Campbell thing did almost spoil things for Bev, but I think it made her that little bit more of a household name that a few new people were willing to take the risk with her, and more importantly got her more interest on the chat shows where she consistently performed her back catalogue brilliantly. Now she's touring with Take That she shouldn't have any problems lingering in the charts for a good bit longer, especially now the tv advertising has kicked in.
I'm so pleased this album seems to be doing enough to get her another proper, studio album that is heavily influenced by the work of Take That.

Well someone I work with went to see Take That on tour, disgusted by the fact that Beverley Knight was with them. Ended up leaving the tour and loving her. Then dragged me to HMV and bought her entire back catalogue (including some remix album thing) along with the Greatest Hits. I am surprised it's doing as well as it is.

Affirmation has some really decent tracks on there. Straight Jacket was a great song, should have been lifted off the album!

Affirmation is an AMAZING album. Every song is glorious and in a pop-justified world Keep This Fire Burning, First Time, Straight Jacket and Til I See Ya would have been number ones.

Well someone I work with went to see Take That on tour, disgusted by the fact that Beverley Knight was with them. Please excuse my ignorance, but how could someone be disgusted about Bev being their support? Her problem has traditionally been that people just don't get very excited by her, but that means no-one hated her. Or so I thought.

I don't know why that is/was. She just did. I think she is a great singer. But I am not sure that she can sell her next album to the masses.

Definitely the fact that she made that top 40 greatest artists of all time chart on May Day says something. Mostly that she's whored herself out enough lately that people remember her name, but that must count for something.

There's nothing special about Bev screeching 'eva-eva-eva-evah' a la Another Piece of My Heart, especially when we have Dusty singing it so tastefully on those adverts:
Another quality of Dusty's voice, one which seems quite miraculous these days, is that it manages to express emotion without screaming, grunting, going out of tune, or using any of the other devices common to singers who attempt to make bad taste a substitute for soul
Bev would over-cook boiling water. She hollered something like 'I wanna hear my Queens scream' at the Big Gay Out and I immediately hissed gin and venom - I just thought go on then, impress me bitch. Then she sang Angels, which just about says it all. Her music is so bland - Whitney Houston could hold a note better; what's soul got to do with it?

Dannii's the original cat with nine lives.. I hope and pray she lives to fight another day hehe

"Prodigal Sista" was one of the finest albums by a UK artist in the 90s, everything else she's done ranges from ok to bland.
