SOS went (rather out of the bluishly) to no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.
Although I was rather surprised, I felt the need to come yell about it at PJ, cos I remembered someone complaining about it doing so shitly in the States. Anybody know why there was a sudden turnaround?

They were holding off downloads until the album was released so that they'd get enough first week sales for the download to propel it high into the charts, before it was only charting on airplay alone.

Seriously, I wasn't surprised with SOS hanging round the Top 30. Even Ashanti's popular Only U did that and then buggered off. I'm surprised she's caught on so much... maybe she'll even "make it big", as they say.

They're doing the "repressed downloads" thing with Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie" too - it's currently top 20 (#19) on airplay alone, so should rocket to #1 when it's on iTunes from next week.

PopJustice. Beyonce better watch her back. Beyonce has nothing to worry about. If she can get a dull-as-a-wet-weekend song like Check On It to number one, just imagine what'll happen with the storming lead-off single you just know she'll pull out of the bag when it comes time for the album. Rihanna's album is at least 70% filler but has enough singles to keep it going. So you can see where she learned her lessons....

This album has a lot less filler than Beyonce's did. Beyonce has like 3 decent songs on it. Rihanna's, to me, has about 8 tracks that I could listen to with ease over and over again. I am glad she is doing well at the moment. I thought she was a one hit wonder with Pon De Replay (like Nina Sky were).

I bought my copy of the album yesterday, and while I've not had the chance to listen and therefore form an informed opinion on it myself, the woman on the till did say "There have been a few of these going through. It must be a good album". It's all looking good!

I want to get this album. It's all about Rihanna isn't it? It's about time someone gave Beyonce a bloody nose and when the label takes notice of how great SOS is, they might fill her next album up with great songs just like it.
And then at The BRITS this year Rihanna will perform it and Soft Cell will appear onstage with Marc Almond singing SOS along with Rihanna who will be thinking: "Who the fuck are you? I'm the only tiny dancer here."
In my dreams.
