I totally thought Samantha Mumba was gonna be my black Britney but she's gone. "Gotta tell you" was one of the best songs that year(1999?). She was hot, irish, sexy accent, co wrote her album. Dissapeared then had a single 2 yrs ago, and since then has fallen off the face of the popworld? Does anyone know anything? where she is? is she alive? what's taking so long? she has alot of potential.

I don't mean to spread false rumors but wasn't there talk of a drug problem that derailed her? She also went to Hollywood and that threw off her momentum. I do think Gotta Tell You is a pop classic.

I *heard* that too. But couldn't actually ever find anything about it being true. Wasn't she going to release an album but then it got canned...like a year and half ago or something? Or did I make that up?

The drug stories were revealed as false ages ago. It was a revamped version of the Shola Ama story. Oh, and she has something common with Javine. Last year she was in court over drink driving charges.

Ah that's right. I read it online somewhere. I thought it was the BBC News site. I remember a tabloid newspaper saying it was her though. But I had a look and couldn't find it on there. I remember they used the pic of her wearing "that" baby pink dress she wore a few years back. But she was in trouble for this... uk.news.launch.yahoo.com/dyna/article.html?a=/21092005/344/pop-star-cleared-driving-charges.html&e=l_news_dm

we watched The Time Machine in class a few weeks ago and had to write an essay on why it was so bad....(not even a joke)
She never ahd the irish accent in the film did she? Was she trying to an american accent? She sounded a bit like Trevor McDonald.

I still think she's due a big comeback. She was the best british artist at the end of the '90's touting her pop around. Admittedly "I'm Right Here" was a little too wannabe R'n'B... but all her singles before that were so strong.
Didn't she wear some dress to some event that someone else rejected? It was like chainmail?
Time for me to download some Sam Mumba on iTunes me things.

She's running a dance studio in Dublin and is selling her BMW on Ebay.
And was a bloody amazing popstar.

The Time Machine was pretty bad, but it didn't bomb. It actually did pretty respectably for no big names, the time of release and the subject matter.

The Time Machine hit No. 1 at the US box office and is actually pretty good IMO. Guy Pearce is a pretty big name (to me anyways).

I liked her.. it is surprising how she got dropped when her movie career was starting to take off, and she did fairly decently in America for a UK or Irish act. I remember reading something a few years ago in some crappy celebrity magazine about how all she wanted was another record deal...

We deserve a sordid truth behind the disappearance of Miss Mumba.
Her lowest chart position (in the singles chart) was #6, pretty impressive for the fifth single (albeit remixed) from her debut album which itself peaked somewhere within the top 10. Album sales probably weren't huge, or at least wouldn't correlate with the success she had in the singles market, however, she did make some ripples (as opposed to waves) in America after the success of Gotta Tell You, which must have kept album sales up to at least guaranteed 2nd album status.
Admittedly, I'm Right Here was a pile of shite but still managed to creep it's way up to #5, so there had to be at least some kind of fan base there.
So, why the silence? Did the public really just shrug their shoulders about her vanishing act? Is the Retirement Facility the only place that cares?

It's so strange how nothing has happened with her because when Boy Eats Girl came out in Ireland she was everywhere and she was saying she would have new stuff out in Febuary (2006) and yet it never materialised. It's a pity, she had such potential and seems very likeable..

Gotta Tell You what Samantha Mumba's auctioning on eBay
(Daily Mail Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)ROCK star Samantha Mumba's career looks to be hitting the skids after she put her black BMW up for a knockdown price on eBay.
But the Irish singer who reached the top of the charts with Gotta Tell You and Always Come Back To Your Love at the turn of the Millennium hasn't received one bid for the 316i model which has just 19,000 miles on the clock.
Samantha, whose long promised new album has still to appear in record stores and whose film career has failed to take off, opened the auction at E22,000.
Similar cars are selling for up to E29,000.
The Dublin pop star posted a photograph of herself and boyfriend Charles Porter, the rear end of the car and a clamper's van with the advertisement.
It had been taken outside a Dublin court last September when she was let off driving charges and narrowly missed having the car clamped while she was inside.
The tagline, which many surfers took as a hoax, read: 'SAMANTHA MUMBA'S BMW 316i! Immaculate condition. 1.8 litre engine. 19,000 miles. 2003 model.
INCLUDES: tinted windows-beige leather interior, CD player, foglights and alloys.
Stunning car.' Samatha's spokesman denied that she was putting the car up for sale out of desperation.
'She is not spending time here anymore,' she said, 'so there is no point having the BMW when she is not here. She sent a text message to a few friends here in Ireland letting them know that it's on sale.
'Things are going really well for her in LA and she is in great form. She is very happy over there.' The auction will be brought to a close on Saturday after a week on the net. Just looked at imdb and seems she has been filming a film which is in post production it's called three crosses Three Crosses is a remarkable new Irish motion picture, an uncompromising vision of life on the edge from a major new filmmaker Jason Figgis. Jonnie and Jay Linski are siblings with a heavy cross to bear - the brutal murder of their beloved little brother, Danny. Left reeling in the aftermath of this vicious crime, the Linskis seek solace on society's fringes; older brother Jay indulges in violent criminal behavior, while Jonnie exorcises his demons as a bare-knuckle fighter. Jonnie brutally pounds his way to the top of the illegal fight game, an opulent lifestyle and the love of a good woman going some way to anesthetize the pain he feels over the loss of his brother - that is, until, he overhears a conversation implicating Jay and a rival, Neville Jessoppe, in Danny's murder. Consumed by grief, Jonnie Linski embarks on a disturbing plan to avenge the death of his brother. In the nefarious twilight world they inhabit, however, nothing is as it seems, and Jonnie finds his world rapidly spiralling out of control, culminating in an explosive confrontation between the brothers. By turns unpredictable, fast-paced, action-packed, grimly violent, humorous and thought-provoking, Three Crosses pulls no punches. Filmed in Ireland and the USA, Three Crosses is produced by Jonathan Figgis and stars up and coming Irish actors Emmet Scanlan, Maria Manton and Karl Hayden, with an extraordinary supporting cast that features a host of international talent; Samantha & Omero Mumba, Keith Duffy, Damien Dempsey, Uri Geller, Caprice, Gail Porter, Myleene Klass and Bill Fellows. *edit* and apparently she has done some duet with someone called Jay -R www.manilastandardtoday.com/?page=goodLife03_april18_2006 can see there.. so perhaps we shall see her back sometime soonish

Running a dance studio?
But she was an AWFUL dancer...
I remember seeing her dance on live TV and thinking how bloody stiff she looked.....
She had a weird mouth too.....
....and she looked really trampy in that bloody cobweb dress at the Spiderman premier. Does anyone have a photo of that? It was 'orrid.
She was a wee bit odd, I thought.
I did like 'Lately' though. The video reminded me of Pierre et Gilles photos...

The last thing I heard was that Samantha was promoting bras. I think it was her anyway, but that was a year or two ago.
She did seem to disappear all of a sudden, but I assumed it was partly her choice as she wanted to go to Hollywood. Talking of that, I loved Time Machine but I do like some terrible films.
You expect popstars to dissappear after a declining career (a couple of singles outside the Top 10). But as people have mentioned, she never released anything unsuccessful, which made the whole 'giving up on music' seem a bit premature. I never thought Mumba was anything to get excited about but I loved Always Come Back To Your Love.

I loved Samantha Mumba 'back in the day'. I thought she was great. Her album hasn't dated as badly as a lot of albums from that time have.
Gotta Tell You and Baby Come On Over were great songs. She did seem to just disappear didn't she? No idea why, but I think she got dropped by her label in 2004 if I remember rightly, which was fair enough considering it was two years since she released anything. Not sure why. I'm Right Here was a bit of a dud, but it's not like it flopped.

I think she spent a lot of time chasing the movie thing, preparing for roles and auditions and decided to put music on the side for a bit but after a while she couldn't get any of those going. Sad. Her debut albumwas amazing and her b-sides were great too, combining swedish and british pop flavours.

From what I gather it was record company politics blah blah blah, as she was a massive selling singles artist. Basically her 'people' didn't like her first attempt at a second album, told her to go back to the drawing board and then when she came back to them, the 'momentum' etc had been lost and they dropped her. Her voice was shit live and she was a dreadful dancer but 'Gotta tell you' IS STILL a brilliant pop song and the Bowie sample on 'Body II Body' was inspired. She gave good quote in a bitchy Jamelia like way though if I remember right.
