Well, the American McFly CD, Just My Luck, was finally released on Tuesday, figured I'd give a quick review. First off, the tracklisting: 1. I Wanna Hold You 2. I've Got You 3. Obviously 4. Ultraviolet 5. 5 Colours In Her Hair 6. Too Close For Comfort 7. All About You 8. That Girl 9. Unsaid Things 10. I'll Be OK 11. Just My Luck 12. Memory Lane
As you can tell they went the same route as Busted and just combined a bunch of songs from their first 2 CDs, but they actually added a new song, appropriately titled Just My Luck, which is new. Cute song. Nice line about Tom putting away his jumper. which is interesting since over here a jumper is more like a dress. I Wanna Hold You is the "censored" version, the one that doesn't talk about destroying the world. Unsaid Things has been rerecorded and backed up by an orchestra, which actually sounded quite nice. 5 Colours In Her Hair is that weird wannabe-emo version on their MySpace. Other than that, the rest are the same. Good choice of songs, and I can't wait til the movie comes out tomorrow!

I agree about the selection of songs, good choices.
I think i would be able to listen to it all the way through without using the skip button on my CD player.

I've seen quite a bit on E! about Just My Luck but nary a mention of McFly unless the special they're doing on it mentions them. The film looks awful, especially the idea that Lohan is supposed to be playing a 23 year old..

I thought Just My Luck had already come out in the States and had been a flop? Still I suppose that's what I get for paying attention to something I read in a bitchy '89th hand gossip reported as fact' collum of a free newspaper on a train.
Kind of odd how they go emo for one track then have a censored version of another.

This "new" version of "Five Colours" is straannngeeeeeeee...not bad, but it ditches the surf-vibe, 'Beach Boys'-ness of the original...

ohhh this is going to flop so hard. WHAT IS WITH THIS LAZY APPROACH? A pop act can just be sent over and launched but for a rock band to make it in America (yes even rock pop) they have to establish credibility on the touring circuit. they can't skip that step and go straight to pop radio. they should have followed the all american rejects/fall out boy model instead of the tried and failed Busted approach.

I dont understand why they did no promotion? Do they think just because they are the theme for a Lindsay Lohan movie their gonna do well? Why not make an appearance on TRL or something. If they promoted right they could of done fairly well.

Yes...but no trailer for "Just My Luck" has made any mention of them...nor has Lohan in any of her press interviews. If they think the song-over-the-credits trick works...ha! Good luck bitches

They were on CD:USA a couple times, but nobody watches that. I agree that the promotion has been shit. They went to the movie premiere, so they're at least in the U.S. (or were as of a few days ago), but I haven't seen anything at all.
I like it (and actually posted about it somewhere, not to pimp), but it's obviously going to bomb. They might do slightly better than Busted, but that doesn't say much. I can't think of the last UK pop group (of any type) that made it, although in most cases it was done half-assedly. Sugababes' were aborted several times after one single, Atomic Kitten came home with nothing but a few Disney gigs, Blue didn't even try for obvious reasons other than the dismal prospects, Girls Aloud haven't attempted it either. Not counting the Blunt, Natasha Bedingfield has broken through pretty well, but that's it. I can't see McFly breaking it.
The thing is, over here, for the most part, radio is paramount more so than TV apperances or anything, though the rest helps. "Unwritten" gets airplay 24/7. None of the other UK acts have managed to get out of the Radio Disney ghetto, if even there.

That new song is not very good. I'll be amazed if that US album does even 25% as well as the first UK album did. But McFly's manager can take solace in the fact I'm usually completely wrong about that kind of things.

McFly have a few scenes in the movie. The basic plot that lies around them is that Chris Pine is their manager and when he and Lindsay switch their luck, McFly start getting big.
Seeing as how there has been no promotion at all, apart from a few MySpace bulletin posts saying "go buy our album!" I really doubt McFly will do too well. Their success basically rides solely on this movie.
