I was just wondering, since the rise of mp3 players, if you can still return cds to shops such as HMV? I mean, whats to stop you buying a cd, burning it on to your ipod and then taking it back, saying you don't like it, or you bought it for someone, and they've already got it?? I need some new music hehe

With the advent of BitTorrent sites there is no need to rip your own CDs anymore. For newer stuff anyway.

Most shops will just offer 'exchange only' and no refund. If it hasn't been open (it's still wrapped in the plastic wrap), they should allow a full refund. At least that's the rule for most shops here.

Most people who do that just say the CD is jumping and get a refund even though the CD works fine. The shop won't listen to the whole CD to check you are or aren't lying.

Over here, you can return CDs that are still sealed for a full refund. If you've opened it, you can only exchange it for a copy of the same album.
