He's been suspended for playing 2 Cliff Richard songs in a row by station management.
Not that I like CLiff but it's nice to see DJs taking an interest in the music they play and standing up to the playlists.
Anyone know the song about a DJ in the states who locks himself into the studio of the radio station he works for and plays the records he wants to play when the station is bought over by some big company? It's a little bit country and the chorus goes a bit like this:
"His name is xxxxx but I know it's Steve" or "His name is xxxxx Van Lowenstein" - could never figure it out.

I missed this, sorry. I've done a poll in 'Ask the Board' on this very subject, omitting 'publicity stunt'.

He's not on Capital Gold is he?
He's always on the regional variant of Real Radio (that's what we get anyway) playing his hour of funk and disco on a Saturday night.
Not that I listen or anything.

That party night show is syndicated every where.
Si.. don't feel cheated!
I'm surprised he even does this breakfast show live.
It's worked though. He's got a page in most papers.
Sly.

I think it was because Cliff is black-listed from the playlist, not just not on it. I think Cliff is a bit of a wanker and everything, but I think it's out of order for radio station bosses to ban particular artists for being too naff when they play lots of other naff artists and they have fans who don't care.

I don't like Cliff Richard's music but why is he a wanker? And if he is why should that mean he is black-listed when there are loads of wankers on the playlist? Do they have a wankercount? Do they operate a positive discrimination policy of wankers and let certain numbers in or something?

Imagine that? No Coldplay, no Robbie, no Oasis. Imagine a policy of not playing sexist homophobes? Radio 1 wouldn't know what to do with itself.

I smell a publicity stunt. Classic Gold arnt exactly over run with listeners are they? You'd be right... At first I thought it might be for real, but the amount of media coverage it started garnering caused me to smell a veritable nest of rats. I made a phonecall to my perfectly-placed source (a DJ at the same station, no less) who told me that it'd all been in planning for months. As if by magic, it was all resolved by the next day AND Tony's special guest on his first day back was Cliff. I doubt Cliff's that easy to book, especially at this time of year when he's on call at Wimbledon to annoy the fans with an acapella performance at the merest hint of rain. Apologies for any distress caused to anyone who believed that radio was an honest and uncynical media...

No apologies required. Nobody believed anything other than it's as cynical and corrupt as the rrest of the media
