There will be a third series of Popstars, and this one's looking for the next H & Claire, but (hopefully) better...
ITV has confirmed that reality series Popstars will be back for a third series, Broadcast reports this week.
The show, originally from Australia, was first broadcast in the UK in 2000, creating the now parted pop Hear'Say. A twist to the format was introduced for the second series in 2002 - two 'rival' groups were created, one all-boy and the other all-girl. The male group, One True Voice, split months after the show finished but Girls Aloud have gone on to enjoy continued success.
The new run will get a new twist: this time round, the show will look to create the UK's next musical male-female duet.
Called Popstars: Boy Meets Girl, the programme is expected to be given a Saturday night slot for its thirteen-week run.
No judges or presenters have yet to be confirmed; nor indeed has a start date - although with Simon Cowell's new pop reality show The X Factor headlining on ITV this autumn, Popstars could well be kept back until Spring 2005.

Oh Good Lord.
I'm not too convinced by this. The last time any sort of 'talent' context tried to give us a girl/boy duo, what did we get? Sam and Mark.

Boy meets boy, or girl meets girl would be better. A male version of t.A.t.u. would be great.

I'm all for a third series of Popstars, if only to hear what the eight from the final ten who don't get into the duo will get up to after the show. One or two soloists, perhaps a girlband and how many other boy/girl duo's who hope for the ''they should have been the winners'' tag will be lavished upon us?
Speaking of which, I heard that Jessica Garlick is back with a new single called Material. Can anyone confirm if that's true or is it just an internet rumour?

How is this going to work? Will they put the top boy with the top girl, or will they pair them up in advance and you vote for your favourite duo? Do you turn up to the audition with your partner of choice?

Can previous Pop Idol/Popstars apply.
A Rosie Ribbons & Jamie Shaw duet would win easily.

Being on Popstars didn't stop Darius going on Pop Idol, so I can't see why Rosie or Jamie would be stopped from going on Popstars 3.
Except that tomorrow's Sun seems to think it's Popstars 2, judging by their TV Biz headline of "NOW IT'S POPSTARS 2". Poor Hear'Say seem to have been forgotten, as there's a photo of Girls Aloud.

There is no mention of it on Jessica's Yahoo group, to which her mum reguarly posts. She is recording an album though, but I don't know if she has a record deal. I'd like to see her come back though, I think she has the best chance of the girls from Pop Idol 1 to try to salvage some sort of career, but lets face it it wouldn't be hard would it? I'm sure all the Eurovision fans out there in Europe would buy her music, and at least she will have all the Eurovision shows every year to appear on...

It would be a waste of time going down the Whatmore/Birkett route. I love that genre of music but let's face it, unless it's Can't Get You Out Of My Head, it never really equates to massive success. As for being a pop/rock chick, there's far too many around at the moment and that smile of hers could never be mistaken for bad girl chic, so nobody would take it seriously. As for r'nb' lite, I think the industry in Britain has learned it's lesson over the past two years, it's too easy to be just plain bland. So that leaves Come Back esque ballads. Could she carve a career from them? Michelle McManus isn't finding that terribly easy is she. What a state.

Well I'm already looking forward to Nicola Gates trying to apply again. Oh yes, that's a must! Maybe she could team up with her brother for the boy/girl thing? I am sure they would get lots of votes, and it might help his career a tad....

I see you are another one of these people who only stop posting about Will for long enough to have a dig at Gareth. Don't you think it';s a bit hypocritical because just a couple of days ago you were complaining that people were bringing Will's brother into things.
Gareth's career is doing very well without the need for Popstars thank you very much for your not very genuine concern.

What boringly blatent fuckers some hardcore Will fans are. What is their problem do you think? Any suggestions? Maybe we can offer them some counselling.

I'm sure I just heard the sound of something dropping from his label... wait, wasn't that him? I've heard Michelle was gonna be dropped but they were too scared they'd be sued by whatever she landed on...

I hope they don't do a top boy, top girl thing.
There'll be no guarantee of chemistry, which is what groups need. Part of the OTV problem was the complete lack of chemistry (as well as Shakespear's Words)
It could be quite fun to audition pairs from the very start. That would give some fun in the eliminations when one of the pair isn't up to scratch and pulls the other down. And there will be the comedy of the open auditions, with a whole row of camp kids and their fag hags queing up.
I personally can't wait.

I've heard Michelle was gonna be dropped but they were too scared they'd be sued by whatever she landed on... What you heard was the sound of Victoria Newton. If you spend much time here you'll know her top insider information counts for nothing. What I heard was that the Chairman of BMG said her report was rediculous and he is recording the next album. I heard he was number one in lots of countries again this year and not so long ago won the Best Male at the MTV Asia Awards where he had the second biggest selling album last year. That doesn't sound like someone who needs to go on Popstars: The Rivals to me. That sounds like someone who has made a success outside the country where the tv show was aired and is the only reality tv person to do that with any conviction (except for Anastacia and Sheena Easton). As for Michelle, she is likely to be dropped, but has been promised a brand new single. Childish comments about her weight or Gareth's stammer make you look stupid, not them.

Supposedly. Somone posted about it on here. Blame them if it's untrue. She was definitely discovered after televised open auditions on MTV.

In case anyone cares:
In Germany the 4th Popstars season will be on screen very soon. The auditions have started last week. This time the final group will most probably be a 4 piece mixed group, although they said that in season 2 and 6 people got into the group. I think they even want a "proper" band this time with instruments and all. Again, german procuder Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen will be in the judge, together with another german writer and, most importantly, Sandy! (Sandy was a member in Germany's first Popstars Season's group No Angels. She's also displayed in my current Avatar.)

OOOOOOOO Fluff I am surprised at you defending pop idols. Not your normal style but I like it What do you mean it's not my style? Just because I don't think Sam and Mark are particularly great popstars never stopped me from defending them when they deserved it. I've often commented on how unfair they and others have it as a result of anti-Pop Idol backlash. You should re-read those threads where you assumed everyone was attacking them and you'll see me sticking up for them and Michelle and so one when I think they deserve it. I agree with many on here that series two wasn't a patch on series one, but one reason for that is that one of my favourite popstars is Gareth who if I'm not mistaken was on Pop Idol so I am very grateful to the show and a firm believer it can find genuinely great popstars with talent. If you pay close attention to what's writtenin this thread I was sticking up for Gareth, from Pop Idol. I am another one of these funny people who likes Girls Aloud, so there is no way you can infer that I'm against these things. *Phew* I'm glad I got that off my chest.
