...talk about the new Green Day video without it turning into an argument that I couldn't even follow in the end!
I'm sure a lot more people will have seen it by now so I'd like to see a few more opinions.
I do like it but it is quite long winded and puts across a totally different message to what I thought the song was initially about? Or am I wrong? I know the whole anti-war thing the band had going was good at first, but it does seem to be going on a bit. I know they're not just going to forget about their feelings towards it but the video for 'Holiday' had anti-war imagery in it which I felt suited the song in every aspect, but I'm not so sure about Wake Me Up When September Ends.
I definitely think it is a very beautiful video though, image wise, with lots of amazing effects.

I think it's disgusting. Green Day are cashing in on what has happened in Iraq over the past couple of years. By trying to make the video relevant to Green Day's audience by shoving in some story of lusty teenage love, it just futilises what war is.
The song isn't that good, either.

Thank goodness for the "...When September Ends" part of the title, otherwise I'd have real issues with this song.

I've always really liked the song since I got the album, but I think they could have made the video better. I see the point of the band 'cashing in' to some extent. But I also think they've just got strong feelings on the issue.
I really think they should have made the video focus more on what the song is about though. I don't think the video really goes with it.

I really do like the song.
But I get a bit confused about the video - is the focus on war, or love? Because on the one hand you have the couple who are quite happy until the guy leaves to go to war: now is the war element just a convenience a way of having the couple apart, without one dying or cheating? or, on the other hand, is the war element the main focus of the video: that war is bad and it tears apart relationships, etc. It's all a bit confusing - and why does he go to fight in the first place: money? patriotism? And what happens in the end? - the video is seven minutes they could have added a ten second conclusion to help me.
Nice one Green Day! - I'm all in a pickle
Besides, they edit out the bits without music most of the time now.
...If only all videos were as simple as green liquid gushing over the American Flag and kicking over a drumkit...

This is why we hate Green Day.
It will appeal to all the right people, all my friends are in awe over the video, and they've bummed the song since January, so of course it's going to do well.
I don't believe in "selling out" but this just takes the piss - I think the whole "I love you" thing is just too sickly, it doesn't suite the song at all, and it should have just been left on the album! Green Day aren't about soppy video's, and I think the whole thing is a bit of a rip off of Good Riddance.

Who gives a shit about any of this politics mumbo jumbo?
Shouldn't we be talking about how amazingly fit Jamie Bell looks? He reminds me of Leonardo Di Caprio when he cries.

He looks a lot fitter in his army gear with his hair shaved.

Yeh he does look fit. I wanted to see more of the band aswell though. I also don't think the sicky-ness (?) suits the band either. I havent seen it in ages, I think people who watch the hits don't want to vote for it cos they'll get the massive monolgue thing, and it just gets a bit tiresome after a while!!

Shouldn't we be talking about how amazingly fit Jamie Bell looks? He reminds me of Leonardo Di Caprio when he cries. It occured to me watching today that we could actually be watching a romance between one Amy Studt and Dougie McFly, cleverly desguised as main stream actors. Oh come on, surely Dougie works?

I do really love that song, it was my favourite green day song for ages. I don't really like the video though. It had a lot to live up to because of how much I loved the song, but I don't think it did it justice at all. The acting bits are annoying because when I first saw it I couldn't understand what Jamie Bell had done wrong (*oops*) and the way the music keeps stopping is annoying. I think the bits of Jason and green day playing are great, but it's interrupted before the atmosphere they wanted to create can be. It's too political for the song. It's really personal to Billie Joe, so maybe he didn't want his feelings splashed across MTV, but it hid the true meaning of the lyrics.

The shots of the band playing with all the sparks flying are spectalcular. Reminds me of the concert where they did the same thing!
I'm glad most music channels have cut out the over acting parts!

I love the song, but the video is crap. The song obvioulsy means a lot to Billie Joe, but the video doesn't convey this.

At my school, it seems that it is weird if you don't like Green Day. Just about every girl in my year likes them. Even my friend, who had absolutely no interest in them before likes them, probably just because everyone else does.
