Did anyone witness the final episode of TOTP on BBC1 tonight? I sat there for half the show mourning - where did it all go wrong? Tonight we had:
> Kanye West - Diamonds... (Probably the best performance of the night, and that's coming from someone who seriously dislikes hip-hop.)
> EXCLUSIVE Crazy Frog - Popcorn (Whose benefit was this for? Are we not going to see this song enough in ad breaks over the next three months? Did we really need an 'EXCLUSIVE' 'performance'?)
> 24/7 (Crammed with sizzling news stories. Or something. We even found out Anastacia's favourite superhero.)
> James Blunt - Wisemen (I always disapprove when they play a track from the number one album. It always strikes me as underhand tactics.)
> EXCLUSIVE Roll Deep - The Avenue (What were they doing? They just stood there for half the song listening to the backing track. These 'EXCLUSIVE' 'performances' were clearly worth the money.)
> FROM LIVE 8 U2/Paul McCartney - Sgt Peppers... (Unnecessary and so last week.)
> EXCLUSIVE Heather Small - Proud (For goodness sake. The only thing of merit in this performance was the almost exciting Olympic rings in the background. Shame they didn't set off the sprinkler system.)
> 2Pac ft Elton John - Ghetto Gospel (Sadly, TOTP spent too much on other 'EXCLUSIVE' performances, as 2Pac was unable to perform in the studio. Priorities?)
Seriously, why don't they go back to how it used to be?
1. Show the songs that are in the chart that particular week.
2. Stop force-feeding us with 'EXCLUSIVE's we couldn't give a toss about.
3. Don't fill up valuable performance time (which could have been devoted to Rachel Stevens) on non-existent news stories or competitions.
4. Any guest presenters should not have the words 'Jeremy' or 'Clarkson' anywhere in their name.
I despair. I really do.
