ITV1 have announced that CD:UK's been axed, and will finish in March. 24 hour music TV channels such as The Box, MTV and The Hits have been blamed.

I'm sad. It's been the best mainstream music show for years, but perhaps the world doesn't want a mainstream music show any more. It's been too much, even for me, on Saturday mornings, to flick between all the channels to get my weekly pop fix. The problem is, unlike TOTP, I can't see CDUK working on any other day.

Rather annoying. I don't watch it religiously as I used to. But it was always nice to watch to see a performance from your favourite artist. I'll never get to see another Britney performance on CD:UK

That'll leave one less show for Mcfly to appear on every week.

i honestly blame Johnny P.
They fucked around with it too much. One presenter is enough. Lauren Laverne could have done the show with her eyes closed and done a super job of it.
I'm worried now that single sales will take an even bigger nose dive. You watch cd:uk on Saturday morning then go shopping for singles in the afternoon.
Top Of The Pops Reloaded is wank let's face it.
I wouldn't blame music channels at all. There is a high demand still for live music on t.v and there needs to be an outlet for this!

Well since this new format started and they introduced that pointless MiTracks thing, they haven't shown the official top ten singles anyway. That was a big mistake I think. One thing CD:UK always had going for it was that it showed the midweeks chart, and with the biggest selling day for singles usually being Saturday I agree that worked in it's favour. What were they thinking with that MiTracks chart, even Lisa Scott-Lee got top 5 on that.

This is awful news, just when America realised how great it was and decided to make a US version too.
Basically this programme is still good and the main reason it has lost viewers is because of the Corporate Arseholes who run ITV1 messing about with the schedule. I personally never liked Cat, but I think if they ditched Johny "I'm such a Lad, Me" and Myleene "I'm so genuine and sincere" (Not) and let Lauren do her Blue Collar/ Dry Sense of Humour/ Slightly Camp Northern thing to the Max, (without the restraint imposed by the other two No-Marks!) then I am convinced it would be good again.
I genuinely still see life in this programme. It really saddens me that ITV have pummelled it into the ground, I could almost shed a tear, really I could!

Seriously? I've heard absolutely nothing about this. Do you have any more information?
Ever since stuff like American Bandstand went off the air, there's basically no place for weekly performances. We have Soul Train but that's mainly for urban music, and TRL is on every weekday but there are only performances sometimes. Besides that, it's basically award shows, late-night talk shows, and morning news show circuits. It seems like the UK might be going in that direction.

All I know is I read a story in the sun roughly 2 months ago about how an American network (I can't remember what one) had bought the US rights as they were impressed with the calibre of US acts regularly featuring on the uk show and were putting their version "In Development". Which I am guessing means focus group research etc

Did anyone catch who it was singing in the clip, where Myleene said that he'd be going on tour next month, and it was on just before Liz McClarnon? I really like that song, I've heard it before and don't know who sings it.

I doubt she'll get as far as top of the pops so I'm guessing she was hedging her bets.

Did Liz say "thank you TOTP" during her performance on CD:UK halfway through?! She did - sounded like the exact same performance as she gave on TOTP last week. Guess she won't be invited back, but then again, the show will probably be gone before she gets her next single out.

I still don't get why CD:UK has been axed.. it can't be doing that badly for a Saturday morning can it? The show is miles better since the re-vamp if you ask me.

Music Week suggests that another channel could pick CD:UK up. I have a feeling Sky One may want it.

We knew there were flaws with the MiTracks chart, but the biggest flaw of all happened today - you're meant to vote for your favourite videos, but Kelly Clarkson got to #2 without a video.

So where exactly does it state that you're meant to be voting for your favourite videos as opposed to simply your favourite songs?

They have to be entered onto the list by someone at CD:UK, so that's their own daft fault. Maybe they were voting for her performance from CD:USA screened a couple of weeks ago, which was excellent.
The Mi-Tracks chart is the biggest problem with the new format, but overall it is working now, and assuming they get a good deal on airing performances from the US version, they are likely to be able to get more big name guests more often on the cheap. By that same token, they'll be able to sell America some of the UK performances. Such as, erm, James Blunt!

They don't need to get a deal to screen performances from CDUSA and vice versa as both shows are made by the same production company, Blaze TV. Not setting out to correct you, just thought you'd like to know lol

There's only two more editions to go. Though I've heard that Five want it. The TV channel, not Abs and co.
