it's just coming through in tomorrow's headlines that louis has walked out on the x factor, there's no information about what's gonna happen as to whether they'll get a replacement judge, or what'll hapen with shayne, but i'm sure it'll all come out in the morning...
so far it's on the cover of the sun and the star, sky news interactive is running it too

Why on Earth all the hatred towards Louis Walsh? I'm all for bashing those that deserve it but what Louis done to Sharon was only what Sharon in turn did to Simon Cowell before.
Get a little perspective.

Personally, I find the man's lack of integrity when it comes to his comments week on week.
Simon criticises his own, Sharon can get away with it this time around because (with the exception of Chico) she's actually got some decent artists but I cannot stand Louis' ridiculous hyperbole. Nicholas, Chenai, Phillip and yes, even Shayne are most definitely not the most talented singers in the country despite what Louis would have us believe. Simon's arrogant yes, but at least he acknowledges when he's made a mistake -- Louis' deny everything stance is just very waring after you've heard him defend awful performances the first twelve times.
I have other issues with him, but board rule 3.a. prohibits my bringing it up.

I really do hate the man. His reponse to any criticism from the other X-Factor judges is to say "Well, you chose the wrong song for your act last week, so I'm allowed to choose the wrong song for Nicholas/Shayne/whoever this week, so neerrrrrr", or to claim that, in fact, he didn't choose the song at all, so it was actually the singer's fault that they ended up having to do a dull, MOR 70s ballad and making a hash of it. I'm not sure how much credence to give to this rumour, but even if he did quit and the producers replaced him with a small bucket of dead frogs, it would still have more professionalism and humility than Walsh.

Really? I haven't watched X-Factor (although apparently he's trying to bring it to the States now), but on American Idol he's the total opposite - once he latches onto a particular contestant he'll do anything for them to win, they can do no wrong, and all other ones aren't good enough; and cannot admit when his favorite sucks and someone he doesn't like (for whatever reason) is really good one week. Although on X-Factor that's kind of the point, but I still can't take Simon Cowell seriously after he pushed Ruben Studdard over Clay Aiken on the second season of AI. He's supposed to know about the music business and what sells, and maybe he does in Britain (Westlife...), but in the U.S. it's different and he has no idea. Kelly Clarkson would be a has-been if she had followed all his advice.

X Factor's different to Pop Idol / American Idol in that each judge has their own set of acts. The Conway Sisters are a quartet of non-too pretty Irish girls who attempt to harmonise everything -- they're one of two acts for Simon not yet knocked out of the competition. In comparison to some of the acts left, they're awful and Simon knows it. Whereas Louis'll argue that whichever of his acts has just performed was 'an amazing vocal talent' or 'will have a massive career ahead of them', Simon gives an honest critique of his own act's performance, admitting they (as in him and his act) chose the wrong song or that it was pitchy, etc.
I was going to suggest that the persona he's cultivated in the states was different to over here (after all, we've known him longer, culturally), but it isn't the case. I think he's always honest, always right and knows his stuff. If AI became more like X Factor with Paula, Randy and Simon each mentoring a different group, I've got no doubt that he'd be just as honest.

Ah, but again, that's the nature of The X Factor again, isn't it?
He wanted badly to win the first time around, I doubt he believed he could make Steve a major star anymore than he's keen to resign Robson and Jerome. However, he was correct in what he said as Steve won the public vote. I'm certain he wouldn't've of won if Simon hadn't been behind him, but that's only a small element -- after all, Will won over Gareth.
More often than not, when Simon says something unpopular, he's being honest about an act. Think about Louis putting every Irish act through in the Dublin auditions or Sharon putting acts through on sympathy votes. Simon never pulls that kind of nonsense.
My main point is that he's critical of the Conways and was equally critical of 4tune and Addictiv Ladies. I always think he makes the right choice.

I agree... sometimes Simon does bugger things up, but he does have the humility to actually admit to it. Louis is just a headstrong chihuahua barking at any easy target, yet too bloody arrogant to admit when he's wrong.
I'd have to say that every comment Simon has made this series I've agreed with. Particularly that guy who got booted last week... christ his performance was diabolical...

I don't care which one of the judges 'wins', I strongly suspect that few people do - yet it has been the sole focus of this years show.

I think some people miss the point about 'The X Factor'. While it masquerades as a search for the next singing superstar, it isn't about that at all; it's about making a TV show that loads of people want to watch. They watch it for the judges. Do you think it would get anywhere near as much attention if it were three nobodies sitting there saying only nice things about each contestant.
Think about it. A contestant with zero singing talent has been saved week after week by, at first, the judges and now the public. If this were a talent contest that wasn't been screened on TV, do you think Chico would have made it past the first hurdle? Of course he wouldn't, but he makes for great TV. Same goes for all this Louis flouncing and that dull bitch Osbourne chucking water everywhere: it's giving the punters what they want.

I think it's a matter of opinion whether or not Chico makes for great TV - I have such a low Chico-tolerance level that, whenever he appears, I have to mute the sound and put a cushion over my head for about five minutes until I think he might have gone away. I seriously misjudged this last week and was subjected to the sight of him having an Earth Song moment surrounded by a load of gurning kids. I was trying to eat my tea and everything. It just wasn't right.

When I say he makes great Tv, I mean that to a brainless, dribbling ITV producer, he's the best thing since Danniella Westbrook's septum went on a permanent vacation. Plus, somebody must be voting to keep him in because he's still there. To bored housewives who wouldn't mind writhing around on top of him in their cheapest housecoat, he's hot stuff.
ITV seem to have a very low opinion of most of their viewers; hence the dead-eyed, innovation-free programming that gets commissioned. That said, if you take 'X Factor' for what it is- a live action cartoon with goodies and baddies- it can be quite entertaining.

X Factor = WWF (or whatever it's called post -courtcase) Wrestling
Fuck all about the product, everything about the circus surrounding it, as Maureen puts it.
Mind you, anyone who watched ITV1 on a Saturday night gets what's coming to them. It's hardly the time to schedule anything not aimed squarely at the lobotomised.

From the X factor website:
"Louis Latest
Following newspaper reports today that judge Louis Walsh has quit The X Factor, the show's producers have spoken.
The producers have said,”We are talking to Louis and hope to be able to persuade him to return to the show on Saturday.”
As one of the three judges on the show, Louis has been looking after the 16-24 category which now only includes Shayne.
But producers say they're hopeful that he will return to his place on the judging panel in time for Saturday night's show.
We will of course bring you more news as we get it."
Which basically means he's quit and they are offering heaven and earth to get him back on. Or that's the impression they are trying to give.....
I'd bet my weeks shopping ( which is due to arrive between 4pm and 6pm courtesy of Mr Tesco) that he's on tonight.

He did not quit; it was all publicity-seeking bollocks. Given that it happened just as the legal battle between Simon Fuller and Simon Cowell was quietly settled out of court which has resulted in Simon Fuller getting a share of the profits from X-Factor I'd say it was more publicity-avoiding bollocks.

I so badly wanted it to be true that I almost cried when he turned up on Saturday's show, even though I knew he'd never be able to resist an opportunity to get his smug, pasty little phizog on the telly for another week. Incidently, what'll happen to him when/if Shayne gets voted off? Does he still have to do his judging thing or can he be excused for the rest of the series?

sharon had to judge in the final last year when she didn't have any acts left, remember her screaming at steve, which inevitably led to him beating g4...
which i genuinely believe is the lesser of two evils.
