Thought I would post some highlights (or lowlights) of the American Music Awards airing tonight. I would like to preface by saying that whereas this show used to be mandatory watching for me every year, I haven't actually seen it in about 5. When hip hop became the drug of choice on the US music scene, I promptly checked out.
That said, we're about 40 mintues into the show and we've seen:
1. Mariah looking fat and trashy (surprise, not) with her tits out. She won best R&B female. Unfortunately I expect her to win more awards later, so I'll be forced to see that slutty dress again.
2. Rob Thomas sing some boring, funeral dirge. I never noticed how birdlike his face is until tonight. If those Rob Thomas/Tom Cruise rumors are true, Tom's not just crazy but he has crappy taste in men.
3. Lindsay Lohan embarassed herself royally by singing a live medly of Confessions and Edge Of Seventeen. Even my boyfriend turned to me and said, "she makes Ashlee Simpson look talented, She's an actress, right? She should stick to that". Couldn't agree more.
4. And now Pharell and Gwen just started some really unmelodic, bad, crap hop song. Everytime she goes and does something fabulous (What You Waiting For, Cool) she has to take 5 steps back with some crap like this or Rich Girl. Ugh. She just wants me to hate her.....
Gonna go suffer a bit more. Will update again in an hour. Hopefully the Eurythmics can pull this show out of the toilet....

Alright.
5. Favorite Pop/Rock female went to Gwen Stefani.
6. Favorite R&B duo or group went to Destiny's Child. Kelly was the only one there. Bye. Never cared for them.
7. Now Hillary Duff is lipsyncing to some Beat Of My Heart song. Again, she also needs to give up the music. Not very good at all. (but in her defence, whereas Lindsay would rank a 1.5 out of 10, Hillary would get a 3).
8. Cyndi Lauper (whom I LOVE) with Sarah McLachlan (whom I don't love) did an acoustic Time After Time. I don't get acoustic albums. This will be the first Cyndi cd that I haven't bought....
9. Shakira wins for favorite latin artist. She looks really good and not muddy....
10. Bow Wow, Ciara, Omarion on stage now........absolutely nothing to say about this....

11. Will Smith wins for Favorite Pop/Rock male. He's always been fairly innoccuous to me. I've actually liked a couple of his songs (Miami for one...). I'm just glad he beat Shitty Cent.
12. Best Rap Female goes to Missy Elliot. She had to hobble up on stage with crutches (what's the story behind that?). Have to say, the crutches and her hair win for best accessories of the night so far. She looked great.
13. Los Lonely Boys and Santana perform. In the immortal words of Linda Blair's Reagan, "Mother, make it stop!" Ick!
14. Tim McGraw wins best Country album. Unfortunately he didn't get my memo and he forgot to take his shirt off before coming up onstage. Damn him. I can't stand his music but I wouldn't mind his acceptance speech running a few minutes long; just so I could look at him.
15. James Blunt introduces a performance by Sheryl Crow. Sort of whatever performance. My boyfriend likes her. Have nothing bad to say about her. Him on the other hand. I've heard James Blunt on the UK Chart Show (sundays, online) but I had never seen him. How the hell does he sell records? His music makes David Gray sound like Altern8 and visually he's a poor man's Peter Tork (from the Monkees). For better or worse, he better stay off TV if he hopes to sell anything in the shallow United States....

16. Tim McGraw performs. Unfortunately, it's to sing. Not the performance I want to see from him. Wait, upon closer inspection, his beard is too long. He needs to shave....
17. Favorite Pop/Rock group goes to the Black Eyed Peas. Another one that I can't stand. Never liked anything by them. Thankfully they aren't there to get their award.
(on an aside, I have to ask, is it a truly American phenomenon where anyone who wins must thank god or jesus? I mean, really, like some diety is sitting in nirvana and actually makes the decision to reward Mariah Scarey and her tits and screw Ciara and Fantasia. I would give anything to see Fantasia present an award but before she does the nominees, to hear her say "oh, and Mariah, no fair flashing god your boobs to get that upper edge".....)
18. Goddamn. About time. The Eurythmics were great. Annie looked amazing. Her voice was a little strained but the two of them have more star power and charisma then anyone else tonight. They did a medley of I've Got A Life, Missionary Man, and Sweet Dreams. Ugh, with them done, these last 45 minutes are gonna crawl....
19. Macy Gray introduces Rascal Flatts (?, some country group). god, I love her. Wish she was singing instead. She looked fabulous by the way...
20. Best inspirational recording goes to Mary Mary. Does anyone care?

21. All American Rejects performs Dirty Little Secret. I just don't get the appeal of bands that look like college undergrad slackers and play 4 chord guitar music. Is there anything less imaginative? Skinny straight boys with guitars and no style. I hated it the first time I saw it. When they were called Journey. Or Survivor. Or Loverboy.....ugh.
22. Best R&B album goes to Destiny's Child. Here's your bon voyage gift. No go.
23. The Rolling Stones, live from Salt Lake City, Utah. Some new song. I would've paid money to hear Mick sing, "start me up. you make a grown man cry. you make an osmond come".....
24. The end. Guess I can go another 5 years before sitting thru this again....
(oh, and should anyone think I'm too negative. I must dislike all music. not true. a list of the best cds of the year for me would include Bodies Without Organs, Junior Senior, Fischerspooner, Goldfrapp, Jamiroquai, and more).

well I cant wait to see Eurythmics and Mariah but thats all - Apart from Cyndi who i am so glad performed - you really should consider buying 'The Body Acoustic' - its not as Acoustic as the title suggests and the arrangments of the songs are so amazing - im sure if you are a fan of hers (and im a huge Cyndi fan) you will love it..it is so good.

MMM i was disapointed, on the ITV2 show they heavily cut out performances. There was no hilary Duff, no Rob Thomas, no Sarah McLachlan, no sheryl crow...man i was royally annoyed these werent shown and even tho lindsay lohans performance wasnt good, it was still wicked to see her as was delta and michelle branch yaya x
