I love the Sov, but I'm thinking I might only get the remix single as "Ch Ching" is included on the US EP. I still haven't managed to track down the promo. Anyone know if there are any mixes included on it that aren't on the official release, apart from instrumentals? I know there is apparently a download only remix.
BTW, living in Amsterdam, if I order the single from HMV online and have it sent to me here, will it count towards the chart? Or will it only count if I have sent to an address in the UK?

The Sov is majorly flopping this week unfortunately. I thought the Basement Jaxx connection might have helped her, but radio just won't touch her with a bargepole.

Too right! It looks like it's the end for The Sov. They may have been ok with her missing the top 20 with the first single, but when she's collaborated with Basement Jaxx and she can't even break in to the Top 50, it's time to say goodbye.

The Sov is majorly flopping this week unfortunately. I thought the Basement Jaxx connection might have helped her, but radio just won't touch her with a bargepole. When I first heard Lady Sov was working with Basement Jaxx I envisioned a Hey Dj type stormer, so it isn't quite what I expected but in no way is it a bad song. I think it'll be Alesha Dixon who comes back with the Betty Boo stylings I'm so desperate to have back in the charts. Too right! It looks like it's the end for The Sov. They may have been ok with her missing the top 20 with the first single, but when she's collaborated with Basement Jaxx and she can't even break in to the Top 50, it's time to say goodbye. And yet she still has a record contract. Funny that, isn't it? And her album will actually be released here in the UK and she has on released in the US which, as you know, is much better than Italy. I can only hope Lady Sovereign isn't continually ignored in favour of tarty less talented crap like The Pussycat Dolls and that people will see and hear her for the little genius she really is. Her songs are sharp, funny and genre blurring but if nobody cares, they don't care and there is nothing I can do to help. Unless of course that rumoured Missy duet comes to light but I doubt even that will help. This means I can be a Camden bastard and Lady Sovereign belongs to ME! (and Whitney's Septum if he cares to fight me for her...)

Do you really believe that though? Now there's many things I had you down as - rude? Maybe. Occasionally annoying? Maybe. But naive? Nope.
Like you've delighted in pointing out when it comes to Jentina, Geri, rachel et al, if somebody doesn't sell records for their record company, they get dropped. And compared to SOV, the performance of those three seems absolutely stellar.
I think the failure of any artist is a horrible thing, especially when, as in this case, the whole campaign has been handled in such an inept manner. However, if this album is released (at least as part of her current deal with Island), I'll eat my hat. Record companies have shareholders to report to, and spending money on an act that can't even break the top 30 will be severely frowned upon.
I predict she'll get dropped, and continue releasing independently, as she did before. However, I think any kind of urban cred she had has been really damaged by the two novelty tracks she's done with Island.........

However, I think any kind of urban cred she had has been really damaged by the two novelty tracks she's done with Island......... I'm the most un-naive person on this forum. I know full well what happens when hype isn't in equal proportion to sales. Rachel is going to be dropped due to crap sales, this I know, yet I think the only thing keeping The Sov in a deal is the fact she started out independently and her label are hoping to build on that. I could be wrong but it’s better to start on your own and then work upwards (especially if you are ‘urban’, it’s down to how we perceive urban music) rather than go from S Club and selling millions to virtually nothing. I really do think The Sov is talented (she reminds me of a young Eminem before he started the whole Jerry Springer crap) and if she doesn't sell records, then she doesn't. I still appreciate what I have of her and for me Random has more invention in its bass line than Jentina had in her whole (very, very short) career. As for her 'novelty' tracks, I would disagree with that title. Bad Ass Strippa is much more a novelty song than 9 To 5 could ever be. Hoodie is wonderful as well. And so is Random Hit. If she releases independently then I'll still be happy. As for her credibility, she still has it in heaps. When you have the likes of Jay Z flying you over for private gigs and even Missy Elliot is interested, I doubt 'cred' is much of a problem. So there we have it! Actually, what I find ironic is that Jentina could be The Sov’s saviour. If Sad Arse Strippa gets a release with the new backing track that’s being used, then it could be a very palpable hit indeed. I thought Hoodie was a serious social commentary on what we wear.

I will not deny the lagging sales are disappointing, but I really don't see this as some sort of an end to the Sov. Even if Island *do* drop her, she can always go back to releasing independently and, as Dr Bastard already stated, this would be fine by her fans.
I for one would be very happy.
Personally, I felt the original of "9 to 5" was a stroke of genius - but as soon as they threw those guys in to hoola-ba-loo-la-babababa over it with her, it seriously lost me. "Random" is one of the most sensational pieces of recorded art in the history of sound and "Random Hit" is one of the finest bootlegs thrown together this year.
There's still A LOT of life left in our dear Lady.
(Starla, where are you?!!)

Well, let's face it - when Sov recorded Sad Arse Stripper, she was trying to live off Jentina's success. Nobody had a clue who Lady Sovereign was before that, and she picked a newcomer who had millions of pounds being pumped in to her in the hope that they would turn around and write a comeback. Unfortunately, no-one paid any attention, including Jentina. Ignoring is usually the best tactic... I reckon Sov doesn't even really care about Jentina that much.
I hope 'Sad Arse Stripper' DOES get released, because then Jentina can make a comeback with 'Mysterious' and it can be a big hit in the UK. She could even say it was her reply track to Lady Sovereign. She does sing "only one of us is playing on MTV" after all. ; - )
I wish her the best of luck, but I really can't see her album getting released ANYWHERE in Europe. Maybe some small country in Asia if she's lucky. We'll have to wait and see anyway!

Well, let's face it - when Sov recorded Sad Arse Stripper, she was trying to live off Jentina's success! That is the most psychotic thing I've read in my life. What success? She flopped everywhere. A massive bomb. [quote author=lunatek board=general thread=1126974927 post=1132847295she picked a newcomer who had millions of pounds being pumped in to her [/quote] From the rumours I heard about how she got her record contract, I would say it wasn't only money getting pumped into her, but this is only speculation. I hope 'Sad Arse Stripper' DOES get released, because then Jentina can make a comeback with 'Mysterious' and it can be a big hit in the UK. She could even say it was her reply track to Lady Sovereign. She does sing only one of us is playing on MTV after all. ; A bit difficult considering Mysterious was written and recorded before Sad Ass Strippa was even released. And Lady Sovereign was actually on MTV more than Jentina, who is generally considered a laughing stock by anyone. Even Kitty Empire slagged her off recently. And when Sov and Jentina met at the MOBOs, Jentina shit herself and ran off. Daft bitch. If anyone had slagged me off like that on record I would have smacked their tits up for their impudence. I wish her the best of luck, but I really can't see her album getting released ANYWHERE in Europe. Maybe some small country in Asia if she's lucky. We'll have to wait and see anyway! I suppose I'll be happy with the fact Sov destroyed Jentina's career and that's why she's not making records anymore. Well, Sovereign didn't have to do much, Bad Ass Strippa done enough damage to the poor girl without any diss record.

I didn't want to risk it, so I just ordered them to be sent to my UK address and am just going to have them brought over next week when my friend comes to visit. I will be happy once "Hoodie" is said and done and we move on to other stuff. I haven't been a fan of it, although I haven't heard the mixes yet, so maybe they'll interest me.

Do you get the sense that it isn't really a Basement Jaxx record? I know they produced it but it doesn't seem very 'Jaxxy'. I still like it though. Let's start a petition to get Random Hit released and we can have both Sov and Miss Kittin together. That would be my dream.

Everywhere except Italy. Which is fair enough. But if two top 25 singles is a failure, then what's S-O-V?? She can't even scrape the top thirty. And what, isn't it like fourth single now? If Jentina flopped (which I'm not disputing), then Sov has pretty much mega flopped.
Rumours rumours. Do you mean things you made up?

I think you mean you. I mean, for example, in the actual real world, I don't know anyone who considers her to be a 'laughing stock'. To be honest, most people don't even know who she is, but never mind...... Crap. People do know who she is. All you have to do to remind someone is mention 'the gypsy born in a caravan' and they know instantly. But I won't be drawn into a Jentina versus Sovereign battle because Westlife sell more records than both of them and they're really shit. Lady Sovereign is wonderful! And what if she doesn't do well commercially? At least she doesn't have to degrade herself to the level Jentina eventuall went. Who gives a shit if she 'snogged' Matt from Busted? Rumours rumours. Do you mean things you made up? I made nothing of the sort up. I don't do that. You, on the other hand, claimed that Jentina was getting 'relaunched in autumn' and it's winter. God, this is tired. Please let's not mention that vile tramp's ghastly name again lest my account be raped and changed into another Jentina love fest. The whole Jentina V Sovereign thing is tired, pretty much because nobody gives a shit about either of them. The only person who's still talking about it is you. They're both over. Lady Sovereign over? You're mad! She still has a record contract and trust me, at least she'll release and album in her own country and even if hardly anyone buys it, I will because I like her. Please let it be known to everyone that I never brought Jentina's name up. Check your facts. And please let's just discuss Sovereign. Give me and Whitney's Septum and ThereThere etc that at least.

Its a shame that Sov is flopping so badly. We asked the DJ in our local meat market to play it last night, but alas he informed us that he was too scared of losing the dancefloor crowd, as he pointed to the CD in his Case Logic holder.
I've been a champion of Sov, from Sad Arse to 9-5. All the songs are stellar. Its just a shame that she's being marketed in such an arsey way by her record company.
She's not the next Miss Dynamite and with the same token, she'll never be the next britney. No one has a clue of how to get her style across without compromising her uniqueness.
Channel U have come through in leaps and bounds trying to get her heard.. but lets be honest - who watches it?
Hoodie is a fun song. But, in my opinion, probably her worse. Jaxx's production on it is tinny and dated 1999. ' Random' and '9-5' should have got better airplay and she would have rocketted up the charts.
The remixes by Joolsmf of 9-5 and the Ordinary Boys remixed chorus version were so much better than the original. Random was fantastic. I still can't believe how badly it flopped.
Well, lets hope once the album is released the adults will buy into it - leaving the single-buying kiddies, who don't know their Scooch from their Hooch, behind.

Now that she's buried the hatchet (in Jentina's back) with Jentina, she's seemingly about to unleash a diss aimed at Jessica Simpson. Personally I could listen to her disses all day, they crack me up and Jessica is a vile bimbo egotist that deserves it but I worry that Sov could become a cartoon character. My favourite song of hers is Random and she is doing well in the US critically and her EP is selling well. That's good. Her Jessica Diss better use the backing track to 'These Boots Were Made For Walking'.

Apparently the title track from "Public Warning" must be floating around out there. But as a man with no P2P, I guess I'm going to have to wait to hear it. Although, while searching for a http link, I found a clip of it on this ringtone site. It's such a short clip that it doesn't really give much of an impression of what the rest of the song will be like, except for possibly 'quite amazing': www.jamster.co.uk/jow/slp_order.do?contentType=9&doc=2330077&parentId=1751331&jhs=279As for the "Vertically Challenged EP," I'm having my Mom post it over from the US for Christmas. Looking forward to seeing the DVD. I hope at least that the videos are on there.

I've just ordered Vertically Challenged and await it manically. Have you all seen the front cover of I-D this month? It's The SOV herself and seemingly she's doing a diss on Jessica Simpson. It should be rather career destroying shouldn't it? I'd much prefer she targeted the Pussycat Dolls. They're vile. Could you imagine what she'd do with Dontcha?

Sov is one of those people who is brilliant on paper but falls down in execution, or at least on record- a grime Charlotte Church, if you will, but with less talent. I'm sorry, but this is just fucking shit. 9 to 5 was crap as well. Her voice...GRATES. And it's not just a 'grime' thing, cuz Shystie is kind of awesome, and Dizzee's first album was g to the motherfucking reat. She is just RUBBISH.
I do like her interviews, though. And Sad Arse Strippa was the best thing ever for almost half an hour. But other than that...

I finally got around to watching the DVD that came with "Vertically Challenged." Anyone know what song she's performing onstage that sounds something like "This is my England?" I couldn't hear the vocals very well but it definitely sounded like something I hadn't heard yet.

According to Sov's site, she's recording a four track EP with Basement Jaxx and there will be a 'pioneering' video to promote it. Then in the 'late spring' will be a single and then the album! Of course this record will manage to be greater than anything The Beatles ever done . Also, rumours are about that the Jentina career killing diss Sad Arse Strippa will be on it....with the backing track to Hollaback Girl.
Sounds like genius.
